Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

So I'm torn between my next DS1 playthrough being Shield Souls where I wear heavy armor, use a great shield, and roll as little as possible or Pyro Souls being a Pyromancer with light armor a one hander and rolls for days.
When I first played Dark Souls it took me about eight hours to get to/kill the Taurus Demon, and that's not an exaggeration. But once I beat it everything clicked. I still died every three minutes but I knew what I was doing, sort of.
When I got DS2 I don't think I died until I tried to kill Oldstein, which again is not much of an accomplishment, but it's a start.
Bloodborne was a whole new beast and it took me about four hours to get to/kill Cleric Beast, and another three to kill Father Guacamole because the parry timing is different and weird.
Playing DS2 SOTFS for the first time after months of Bloodborne feels horrible unfortunately :v: The ultra slow combat is slowly coming back to me
Playing as the cleric class, you feel like a giant lump of crap rolling around but still getting hit (low ADP). You can't roll past an enemy then hit them (non existent tracking on roll attacks), you have to completely stop, turn around, walk up and then attack (with the mace it's even worse, good luck hitting more than one enemy)
Just feels like the movement and combat in BB and DS3 was like a privilege compared to this, it's so much more rigid
So is Cleric Beast supposed to be the technical first boss of Bloodborne then? 'cause i'm at the Blood-starved Beast (which is some massive bullshit, by the way) and still haven't encountered the Cleric Beast and have only heard it screaming once towards the beginning of the game.

Also i take it Alfred is supposed to be the Solaire of this game

Technically it's optional, but it's good as a first boss for a couple reasons I won't say.
I also feel as though there are way too many bonfires. The challenge feels lessened when you, while actively playing, go 'there's no way that's another bonfire.' Found myself saying that a few times.
Demon's Souls has no estus or estus-esque item.
I think he was just comparing the healing items in Demon's Souls to Dark Souls. Knowing you can farm a healing item similar to the Estus Flask made Demon's Souls easier in that regard.
DS2 isn't that much easier than DS. The reason why it felt easier is that they didn't introduce that many new elements to the boss design, so the skills that you learned in DS worked just as well in DS2.
DS2's idea of difficulty is cramming as many enemies as possible in one room. Get a weapon that's good at territorial control and all difficulty is pretty much lost.
All Souls games are unbalanced, if you think about it.
...right?
Wasn't it a combination of invisibility and poison that allowed you to cheese a majority of bosses in Demon's Souls? A friend mentioned something about that once.
As far as I know, only the Hero in the Shrine of Storms was totally blind to those who tread silently.

Funny you say that, cuz Solaire and Alfred share the same voice actor. And yes, Cleric Beast is technically considered the first boss. You must have missed the shortcut that leads to him.
Which completely defeats the purpose of the Humanity system imo, it's one of the things i dislike most about DS2. In DS1, being Human had a whole slew of benefits but you ran the risk of being invaded. The only real benefit of being Human in DS2 is using summon signs, as even the health bar thing can be mitigated with plentiful healing items and the Ring of Binding, but in any case most of us have played long enough to not really need summons or worry about our health unless we're just dicking around.
Rat and Bell covenants are what ruined DS2 pvp. That and having no full red eye orbs. Invasions are so rare that the blue and white covenants are completely useless.

Dark Souls 2: Never run out of healing. Always run out of weapon durability.

I don't know if it would be effective but I'd sure like to see it in action.
Dark Souls 2: Never run out of healing. Always run out of weapon durability.
Is that so? As if by some divine favour, when I ask the blacksmith to repair my goods, they are always in perfect condition! I must be missing something.
Is that so? As if by some divine favour, when I ask the blacksmith to repair my goods, they are always in perfect condition! I must be missing something.
They repair when you sit down at a bonfire, the only time you need to take them to a blacksmith is when they've completely broken. But durability runs out insanely fast in DS2, even calling for rings to slow it down, so it's common to use those AND carry repair powder for PvP and the like. The 60 FPS bug didn't help and neither did some weapons having only 20 durability and weapon specials taking huge chunks out of it.
That would explain it. What was the 60 FPS bug?
That would explain it. What was the 60 FPS bug?
You know how in some games, the games physics are tied to the frame rate so the whole game would run fasteR? It's a bit like that, running at 60 FPS made your items degrade twice as fast. So using the Old Knight's Hammer, you could swing it maybe five or six times before it was broken.

Cleric beast is on the bridge in Central Yharnam with the 2 werewolves and past the brick troll.
Cleric Beast is the boss that teaches you the importance of dodging, Gascoigne teaches you the importance of parrying attacks and being fast.
If BSB is kicking your ass, just remember that you can ALWAYS dodge under its right arm and keep an eye out for its instant kill grab. Also don't bother trying to pop an antidote every time you get poisoned, just use a health vial and only use an antidote when you can get a lot of distance between you two.
Fought Darklurker for the first time last night. Now that was a pretty fun fight.
playing darksouls at 75fps is fun
Playing in 60fps is so fucking delicious, but I always find myself turning it off during invasions 'cuz it fucks up everyone's movement animations.
Yet ANOTHER boss beaten on the first try in DS2.
[sp]Rotten[/sp]
I wonder how far I am in the game.. I have all four items which I sought!

Also, if your having trouble with BSB, you can summon Alfred to help you if you can't find anyone else.
BSB can also be parried but I've never managed to do it properly but I've seen others do it, I think you need something like the blunderbuss or ludwig's rifle. I think you can open him up for a visceral if you hit him the back really, really hard.
It's also vulnerable to flame but I wouldn't fire paper until the 3rd stage of the fight so you can do more damage in the short amount of time you can spend near it

I'm like 90% sure that charged attacks in the back open him up. I think the best way to do it solo is to use blood cocktails too distract and when he's using one of his less hectic moves.

I think it depends on the weapon. I could never stun him by hitting him in the back with the saw cleaver but I could do it with the kirkhammer on my strength build.
I save my blood cocktails for Paarl. At least I used to until I figured out how to beat the shit out of him with ease on a first run through instead of spending weeks on him.
Pretty much all the bosses in the main storyline except for the very last two, crow of cainhurst, and sometimes ebrietas and Rom are really easy now.
It's bloodlickers, worms, silver beasts, and swarms of yetis that give me trouble
So I downloaded Dark Souls and DSfix a while back, but didn't play it much (since I had it on consoles, etc, etc).
However, I started it up today and ECH, it's a dipping 30 FPS. Now I am totally fine with an unwavering 30 FPS, however it will dip somewhat frequently to 27 FPS and 24 FPS, which is more jarring than the finest pots. It's true I didn't do much with the DSfix and the like, so maybe you guys can tell me what I can tweak and the like. I can run Dark Souls 2 at 60 FPS on max settings, so I'm sure it's not due to a weak computer. I'll place my specs and settings below.

# Enable variable framerate (up to 60)
# NOTE:
# - this requires in-memory modification of game code, and may get you banned from GFWL
# - there may be unintended side-effects in terms of gameplay
# - you need a very powerful system (especially CPU) in order to maintain 60 FPS
# - in some instances, collision detection may fail. Avoid sliding down ladders
# Use this at your own risk!
# 0 = no changes to game code
# 1 = unlock the frame rate
unlockFPS 0 <--- Change to 1
Should I really unlock the FPS? Those side effects sound scary and I am more than ok with a solid 30. It's the dipping and slowdown that's the issue.
