Do you have a 360? Then you could have got the HD collection.

Nope! Only got a crappy PC, a Wii U, and a handmedown PSP. I'll probably invest in one of those consoles eventually though, because PS2 emulation is iffy at best and I want to play MGS2&3.
Now that you mention it though, should I stop this playthrough and go back to MGS1? I have the classic on my PSP but the last time I played I couldn't figure out how to control the rocket and died, losing all progress (and motivation).
Fuck, I just realized another sad thing about the situation with Kojima and konami.
During this years E3 there would have probably been the final Kojima directed/edited trailer like the last few years, but now that probably won't happen. They were pretty much my main highlights of the previous few E3s.

Up to you, MGS1 isn't really connected to Peacewalker's story besides Huey being Octacon's dad and a few small tiny details.

Hey, the man's still working on it. Sure, maybe he won't come out himself and talk about it, but if Konami gets rid of a high quality trailer just because they don't like Kojima working on things, that'd be a waste of time and money. If anything happens, it might just be a trailer without Kojima's name on it.

MGS1 is absolutely fantastic, it's my favorite game in the series, probably my favorite game of all time.
As for MGS 2 and 3, 2 had a subpar PC port, so if you can deal with that you can play it. If you want 3 and a better version of 2, I'd just suggest buying a cheap PS2 and playing them both. If you can't afford a PS3 for 4, there was an excellent novelization by Project Itoh.

I wholeheartedly agree with the exception of the novel, if someone absolutely has to skip a Metal Gear game I'd just say watch the cutscenes on Youtube.

Trust me, I read the Itoh novel, it's pretty good.
Project Itoh was dying of cancer when he was writing it, it's his goddamn magnum opus. Plus it removes a lot of the dumb filler from the story (the B&B Unit, for example), and expands on the overall plot a little bit, too.

My custom boxart for the PC port is complete.

I like how A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME is larger than Tactical Espionage Action, nice touch.

by the way what font is that?
You might as well just call MGS a Hideo Kojima series. Nobody is going to confuse it with ZOE

Haettenschweiler.
A Hideo Kojima Thread

I revised my PC cover art (I wasn't satisfied with my first art choice).

Looks like the Hideo Kojima disclaimer's similar to a bold version of the MGS5 font now.

That's because [sp]it is. It's a font called "Gotham", the MPAA uses it too.[/sp]

Son of a bitch, and the whole Rising 2 "CONFIRMED" thing involved that trailer using a Batman Forever font that looked near-identical to the Rising font
what is it with this series and loosely-related batman fonts lately

Ohhh you little man.
I don't get the point of the goofy codename the Patriots get when they out and out tell you during the tanker mission that it = Patriots

The game alludes to the Patriots due to Ocelot saying them, but the La Li Lu Le Lo is gibberish those controlled by the Patriots say to cover up the 'identity' of the organization. Supposedly it has something to do with 'forbidden syllables' due to the R and L thing in Japanese, an intentionally confusing mumble of syllables that create a mess of conversation, but I'm probably wrong on that.
MGS3 using it is meant to be early foreshadowing for what the characters would become, but it's so out of place it makes me think it was just sort of haphazardly put into the script to tie the game into MGS2 loosely rather than make sense in context or down the road.

La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo was chosen because they're 'missing' in Japanese.
Or maybe im dumb and read something wrong but thats what i remember.

I thought about that but the Patriots is already a codename that barely anybody is aware of according to the President. And the Marine Corps guy instantly associated the Patriots with La Li Lu Le Lo so it's kind of useless.
Just seems like if you're not aware of the Patriots the extra codename won't matter and if you are you already know both codenames.

La Li Lu Le Lo is what nanomachines autocorrects your voice into saying instead of Patriots.

I guess this is explained at some point? I haven't finished the game yet
