I guess this is explained at some point? I haven't finished the game yet
Its been awhile since ive played, but i think its mostly just implied.

In MGS4 theres a moment where Snake mentions The Patriots, and the character he's talking to goes "The La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo? What are you talking about?"
I just got the first ending in Peace Walker.
Well. That was probably the most bizarre thing I've seen in the entire series. TPP is supposed to be a serious sequel to this?

Im positive that Peace Walkers events wont be discussed much in Phantom Pain. Just MSF and the characters involved.
Gay shower scenes fair game though.

It's weird how Peace Walker was rated T for Teen because Kojima wanted to make a game for his son and they wanted to avoid the darker aspects of the series, but it has the second most psychotic villain, nuclear war nearly occurring, and most certainly isn't pleasant with its tones yet has plenty of high-density whackiness and camp. Especially with the audio drama involved that depicts how Snake recruited Kaz.
Then we go to Ground Zeroes and it's a fucking Guantanamo Bay expy with a dreary mood and [sp]not only major character death but probably one of the singlehandedly most graphic scenes in the franchise involving pulling a bomb out of someone's innards[/sp].

Not to mention implied statutory rape until it's revealed [sp]Paz is like 25 or whatever[/sp]
And NOT TO MENTION the Paz Diary tape with Strangelove...
Speaking of tapes, I am yet to see that feature anywhere in the game. Where do you go to hear the tapes? Is it something I have to unlock later?
[editline]it's showtime[/editline]
nvm found it

Hot Coldman never really came off as psychotic to me. He just seemed like a confused old man who didn't really know what he was doing.
Coldman did nothing wrong.

Also [sp]almost daily torture, rape, implied planting a bomb in her womb?[/sp]
Also [sp]almost daily torture, rape, implied planting a bomb in her womb?[/sp]
Honestly that goes without saying. They're darker tones beneath the surface tension, with only one out in the 'open' while the rest lie in the tapes (besides the [sp]"There's another.. In my.."[/sp]). Then again, I guess some of the really weird or messed up stuff in Peace Walker was hidden in the tapes there too.
Having played the rest of the series, the complete tonal shift in MGS5 is fucking weird.
I know it's a super unpopular opinion in this thread, but to me it doesn't feel like it's even in the same series.

ground zeroes felt the most natural since mgs2 i think. It's gonna be great.

I think it fits well with Big Boss' descent.
So Kojima mentioned that TPP was going to be very taboo and we just assumed it was going to be child soldiers, torture, and blood diamonds but what if it includes homosexuality and BB is revealed to be a massive homo and a graphic homo love scene with Kaz or Ocelot comes up and millions of people playing it in their living rooms have the most awkward experience as their parents walk in
Turns out Kojima meant that this game would ruin his career if it failed because of how gay it is. Then the media only picks up on the graphic homosexuality and ignores the child soldiers and war crimes
I can already see both sides.
"Big Boss is forcefully made into a homosexual despite previous games."
"Kojima is trying to apologize by making Snake gay but we won't forgive him for his treatment of women."
I'd be down with it. Hell, it would make sense, Boss falls for Ocelot and that enrages Kaz who betrays Boss in return.
Metal Gear is so homoerotic that i'd be surprised if Big Boss WASNT secretly gay.
I wonder if GZ spoilers in this thread are even a thing but I'll spoiler it just to be sure.
[sp]Man, that opening scene is so cool, I especially love the moment where Skull Face and XOF soldiers approach the choppers. BUT. I find the amount of troops going to attack Mother Base pretty small. I guess more choppers might have been already in the air and some inside help allowed XOF to fuck MSF's shit up.[/sp]

Yeah, [sp]Skull Face points out in the tapes that the scientist helped them get in, and combined with Huey being the one to try to seemingly and appreciatively welcome the inspectors, XOF definitely got the means to infiltrate and do even more damage.[/sp]

Eva was repeatedly beaten (and possibly raped) by Volgin in MGS3, almost every single game on the series has featured torture to some extent, a big part of MGS2 was Raiden's past as a child soldier, MGS4 has a unit of women who went crazy because of PTSD and were then used as killing machines.
None of those themes are new to the series, they're just being taken more seriously.

See; homoeroticism is at least a good 40%. I'm with Dr.C on this one.

I think it needs a small percentage of diarrhea.

Yeah, that's the tonal shift I'm talking about.
Despite the occasional heavy themes, the previous Solid games were all cheesy ass rumps through ham-land.
So, playing through MGR thought my first time, and just beat Mistral. God damn I'm enjoying this game more than I was expecting to.
The only problem I'm having is with the camera. Is it just me or does it like facing away from the action all the time? During the Mistral fight I had to keep on fighting with it to get it to face her. Real annoying.

You know you can lock the camera onto your target, right?

I feel a little like a retard right about now. Should probably use that. Thanks.
Never play character action games by the way, so it feels like I'm going in the deep end a little while playing this.

He's bi, no doubt. But one can argue he does the Date with Kaz to be nice and everyone on base is gay for Boss.
His sexuality seems irrelevant completely. He's bred for war and we already know that's all he'll ever commit to it one way or another. He's got no space to have emotions for anyone.
He's attached to his soldiers and comrades, it's pretty clear. I think MGS5 will basically be what 'breaks' him in terms of his empathy for others, and turns him into the manipulative bugger he becomes in the originals. And even then the kids he was going to raise into child soldiers saw him as a father figure, Liquid aside.
