Yeah, it is. A character in a multi-million dollar video game that looks almost exactly the same as a doctor about to go through a major operation.
Not saying that this is grounds for a lawsuit, but it's stupid to say that the situation with the main theme "isn't comparable".
The character model in the game is a scan of an actual actor/person they had in the studio.
He'd essentially be suing because they used an actor who looked like him which is on-par with Gary Busey suing a movie studio because they had an actor in their film who looked like him.

It isn't. When two songs sound that alike, a good lawyer can get that through court no problem. Not only that, but Kojima personally wanted the songs changed, since he wanted to think of the MGS themes as unique, and not a copy.
There's nothing to cave into if they're not actually using his likeness though.
There's everything to cave to.
"Hey I'm (thinking) about suing"
"Ok fine lets solve this out of court."
Whether or not "there is no case" is up to a judge. Konami would still have to spend money and time in an effort to prove "there is no case."
I mean, if they want to avoid the whole court case and the likely costs in the first place, sure, but it's not his likeness in the first place. Similar, but it's a different actor's likeness altogether isn't it?

It would be open and shut they aren't going to be scared by it that much.
An operation that Dr. Canavero would get paid for. Heck he gets money for not doing one; he's doing "research". Also he's implying he owns the rights to the procedures when he implies he can sue because the game might use head transplants.
He's an idiot. Most people who are going to sue don't:
- Go on a media spree about how they're going to sue
- Are confident they're going to get literally every time that the product they are suing makes
- File a lawsuit AND at the same time file for compensation
- Talk to the police about this matter (it is literally a private court thing)
He's a fucking idiot that thinks he is on top of the world because he did some media tours recently. I'm willing to bet his research is probably paper thing and most peers laugh it.
I haven't watched any of it myself, but I remember a while ago some people were talking that TEDx Talk he was on, specifically about how the things he was talking about being pseudo scientific at best, complete nonsense at worst.
Might want to take that "He's gonna sue Konami!" stuff with a grain of salt before we all jump down the doc's throat; the original post that YongYea linked from Reddit was deleted, and the original topic creator was stringing people along, inconsistent with information (First said the guy never knew of Phantom Pain, then claimed he said the game was directly related to his research) and suddenly deleted everything he posted. Methinks he was full of shit, trying to cause trouble.

Nick Nolte?
No no no no. I am not falling for the Kojima ruse cruise. I'm jumping ship.
I still wonder how the saves are going to transfer over. If I saved all the prisoners, does the game always register that I saved them or am I going to have to save them all again if I decide to replay it.
The different hostages all count toward your completion percentage. So once you get them you I would imagine it probably sticks. Also TTP will probably work like Mess Effect or The Witcher 2 where you're asked if you want to load a save game when you start up a new game.
what a dick, i wouldn't trust this guy ever to do me some head transplant

It does that in 4 and I think 3, so I'd say it's safe to assume that
No no no no. I am not falling for the Kojima ruse cruise. I'm jumping ship.
You can't jump ship, you'll just fall onto another ruse cruise.
import saves? It doesn't ask you to import saves ever and none of the games have a feature like that except Po:Ops plus.
The question you're thinking of is the one in MGS 3 where you can set the very easy difficulty or modify the intro slightly.
Oh, my bad then, misread it
What are the differences in MGS2 for ps2, and its GC version in twin snakes? Already played MGS1 without any problems, and I can play twin snakes perfectly on dolphin, but I don't have the patience to make MGS2 work on a ps2 emulator.
Twin Snakes was an ...interesting remake of MGS 1 that a lot of people don't agree with on several points, actually. It's definitely not a substitute for the original but worth taking a peek at if you've already finished the PS1 version.
MGS 2 just has the regular and "Substance" version.
Substance had a few extra modes and features and most of them survived in the HD Collection version.
"Most."
RIP Solid Snake's Pro Skater: Radical Half-Pipe Action.

Damn, I was told that twin snakes included MGS2 as well. Guess I'll have to figure this ps2 emulator out.

And the guy at Media Markt told me to sell the PS2 and games for a PS4...
HEH, NO TY!
(although I need a PS4 for TPP, its gonna suck ass on a PS3...)

That might be true, if some fucking idiot at Kotaku didn't call him, have a phone interview and tell him how much MGSV would probably sell. One of the staff there thought it'd be a great article and basically pissed gasoline onto a flame.
Dr. Canavero isn’t just surprised by all this, but actually rather put out; he’s even thinking of suing Konami over it. “I went to the Polizia Postale [the authority in charge of this kind of thing here in Italy] and filed a complaint towards Mr.Kojima. There is also a Twitter account that is not mine, so I reported this to the Police too, they will now investigate both the matters. In the meantime my lawyer is sending a letter to the Japanese company [Konami] to ask for compensation [for using my image without permission].”
He mentioned this more than a few times during our phonecall. He also seemed very interested in how much Metal Gear Solid V might be worth. At one point, suddenly asked me: “By the way, do you know how much this game is going to cost? And how many copies will it sell?” When I estimated that it’ll sell maybe 4 million units at 60 euros a pop, he started laughing.
“Wow!!! Sixty Euros? Multiplied by 4 or 5 MILLION? That would cover the whole operation for Valery and then some! We’re talking about an insane amount of money!”
Just as a suggestion, stick to using archive.today for websites like Kotaku that don't even deserve a visit to their website.
What's with all of these "games journalists" talking to Dr. Canavero but not telling him about Ian Moore?

They want to stir up controversy to get more readers.
Games journalism has basically turned into a huge Fox News.
Don't be so quick with the hate. They do mention it:
I pointed out his resemblance to the actor from whom Konami actually did the scanning for the three-dimensional model, but he tells me that his lawyer has suggested something different that involves a conference held in Cyprus:
“One of the sponsors was coincidentally a game developer. Maybe some people there...I don’t know...maybe they recorded the thing from certain angles, maybe the cameras were set up in the right spots... I do not know. It’s just a hypothesis, but maybe it’s not too far-fetched.”
I pointed it out that this seemed rather unlikely and that there was probably a simpler explanation, but he interrupted me:
“To be completely honest with you: this isn’t such a bad thing. Since my project requires a lot of money, Mr.Kojima will be able to say he had a part in HEAVEN [the name of his head transplant procedure] despite the fact that he probably never intended to.”
The guy is just a whack-job opportunist. And Kotaku was not the first to contact him.

John Riceroni from EA as... Ron Paul? Or maybe Kotick would be better?

Wow, I could understand that he was concerned over his likeness being used but that's just plain egotistical.

Almost like when Liquid Snake rused Snake into activating REX...
Suspicious, but only because this reads like as if Canavero was some sort of evil villain.
- weird egotistical behavior and grandiosity
- messes around with brains and decapitated heads
- commits immoral actions for funding
- complete dedication to fulfilling his project
and they say the mad scientist is a dying breed
this guy can't be real

Whoever has been saying mad scientist is a dying breed doesn't attend the conferences I have.
Does anyone know where I can listen to the MGS Peace Walker Audio Logs? I found Paz's Diary but I don't know how many other Audio Logs there are, and I would use my PS3 but I don't feel like hooking it up.
