since when is mgs 4 cannon
since when is mgs 4 cannon
since 2008?
What I want to know is how drastically scenes change from the canon ending. I'm playing through MGS for the story so if I can't get past this part I'm willing to watch MGS1 the movie on youtube for the canon ending.
There's a significant difference that you may be able to guess from what Revolver Ocelot tells you, and submitting gives you an ending that's rendered non-canon later in the series. The story branches later in the game depending on if you submit or not, but still goes down the same path with that one key difference. Also, in all fairness the non-canon ending is good in its own right.
Unfortunately there's not much advice to be given for surviving the torture, some people can do it and some can't. Try not to take your finger off the button whilst mashing, and if you get tired switch hand between "waves".
Amusingly Snake having both New Game+ items in MGS2 makes sense, since [sp]he gets the Bandana if Meryl lives and Otacon obviously keeps the Stealth Camo to give to Snake later.[/sp]
Metal Gear is probably one of those franchises that don't have a lot of 'inbetween' besides MGS3 to MG1, where you don't get supplemental materials by the truckful that explain everything between plot points in the storyline. Probably because the games themselves explain just about everything you'd really need to know and even things you really don't, for the sake of Kojima's overblown writing.

if you want an easy technique to do it, don't use the tip of your finger, use the side of your thumb's knuckle and just violently mash your wrist up and down (wiggle it). thumb muscles can easily wear out pretty quick because they're so small but if you're using your wrist there's pretty much the force of your entire forearm behind it, makes it a million times easier
i've been trying for an hour straight and switched from xbox controller to ps3 controller to pc. I went as far as to set up macros and install cheats. they dont work
take a break and try again tomorrow, that shit always works for me
also make sure you use your dominant hand to do it. i'm left handed so i'd hold the controller with my right and use my left thumb
I've heard rubbing a spoon on the button is a good way to do it. Alternatively, rapid-fire macros.

While I do believe 4 is one of the few MGS games that Kojima didn't want to make (due to him wanting to quit after 3 and fans and execs alike told him not to do that), it still is more canon than, say, Ac!d.
Also it's canon, not the one you fire balls out of.
Take a drink whenever someone brings up how they're having a hard time with one of the torture sequences in this thread.

well to be frank Ac!d isn't even supposed to be canon since they're another spinoff series like Ghost Babel was
Unless that's the point you're trying to make v:v:v
I get that MGS4 is still controversial amongst the fans, especially the [sp]mid-credits[/sp] ending, and there are a lot of things I wasn't happy with both in terms of game design and story. But every time I see a fan try to vehemently proclaim that 4 is non-canon, I want to dopeslap them upside the head.
They aint so hard.
You just need to vibrate your hand out of the plane of existance.

The video I keep posting should just be in the OP or something.
the only thing that upset me in mgs4 ending was [sp]snake not shooting himself tbh. it would've been a noble and somber end as opposed to the weird semi-happy thing that happened, and it would've brought him closer to the boss[/sp]
[sp]Snake didn't even know The Boss.[/sp]
[sp]Snake didn't even know The Boss.[/sp]
[sp]In spirit he did[/sp]
I wasn't trying to cause a debate, just make another snake x otacon is canon joke

Sorry

Blame the writing staff's rebellion against Kojima in the first place. Even then [sp]he wouldn't of died by suicide,[/sp] but it'd of been even worse and darker.
[sp]Snake didn't even know The Boss.[/sp]
that doesn't really matter, as he's a clone of big boss who sought to emulate her early on in his life. the whole series is basically people trying to recreate the boss & big boss through various means

Honestly, Solid Snake was pretty much the true progenitor of The Boss and he never even knew her. He fought for what he believed in, and at least part of that that was a brighter future for humanity altogether rather than specifically for America or Russia or specific nations. Although he killed for that, and had his own guilt and apprehensions about doing such in the first place due to being made for the battlefield as the prime example of a soldier, he's genuinely someone that could see the worth of life beyond the battlefield like The Boss could.
And that's honestly something I can appreciate the games don't rub in your face like a lot of other themes. [sp]Big Boss realizes he's wrong before willfully accepting his death once and for all, Zero was rendered braindead after years of stress that he put himself into by trying to control the world before Big Boss quietly and gently mercy kills him,[/sp] and The Boss' legacy ultimately lived on not through Outer Heaven, or The Patriots, but on the shoulders of Solid Snake and Otacon defacing and destroying Metal Gears with the help of Raiden because they believed what they were doing was right for everyone without simply trying to make aggressive decisions for the world at large or letting the world burn so they could take their own path.

that's why the torture scenes are so great
they separates the boys from the men >:)

I thought it was fitting for his character. In the end, Solid Snake chooses life.

Sounds odd that Kojima didn't want to continue past MGS3, considering MGS4 was a fucking huge game that tied up pretty much all loose ends and seemed to have a lot of effort put into it, with TPP looking to be even bigger. It really doesn't show IMO

[sp]Eh, I don't think a suicide ending would have been the way to go. Snake choosing to live out the rest of his days in happiness is a much better ending imo.[/sp]

Sucks for people like me who've had lifelong wrist strain issues.

Especially with the theme of memes in MGS2+4, [sp]Snake chooses to pass on what he knows to future generations. His suicide would have defeated the message conveyed in both games[/sp]
how does it strain your wrist i think you are doing it incorrectly try using your fingers?
I do, but my wrist issues are pretty bad.
Let your hand just shake naturally. Don't hold the controller normally, put it on a flat surface and just ram the circle button with your index finger. Turning off the vibration helps.

i tried using my fingers and my wrist. I have a disability that affects my fine motor skills so it's pretty difficult.
