Metal Gear Solid - Tactical Megathread Action VIII - We Are Diamond Dogs!

Guess I'll listen to Paz talking about cooking and shit again while going on a rampage this time.
I'm not too worried about the cutscenes being shorter and less in number. This is metal gear we're talking about. The cutscenes might be average length now instead of listening to Ocelot lecture Raiden about how he was manipulated for almost an hour
I really don't like the idea of encouraging people to replay missions over and over and over.
if there's plenty of variation each time, I won't mind.
And as long as they're not as short as Peace Walker's.
More information. There's one minor spoiler.
I never got to play Peace Walker, how does base management work? Does it affect gameplay in any way?
Played through Ground Zeroes again the other day, and damn, that song that plays when[sp]mother base is getting destroyed really made me tear up a little. All that hard work I put into Peacewalker upgrading my base. All gone.[/sp]
(direct link since the title of the song is a potential spoiler)

I do, it adds more content to the game and encourages people to take new approaches. You learn new tactics, do different objectives and get a fresh experience. It's a win-win all round really.

I liked it the way Ground Zeroes did it. The missions in Peace Walker just weren't interesting enough to do over and over again in my opinion.
You could listen to any tapes you had with the iDroid, music or talking, mid-mission in GZ, so I imagine you should be able to do it in TPP just as fine.
Yeah, that was really cool.
Except Kaz constantly deciding to call you mid-tape.
not going to lie, Im actually weirdly bugged about the ability to play as Diamond Dogs in missions because it worries me that we'll have the same thing as Peace Walker where our random soldiers had better stats than Big fucking Boss did
I hated that about Peace Walker. I don't want to be alligator I want to be fucking Big Boss
[editline]5th June 2015[/editline]
also missable DD is terrifying, I hope no one in this thread misses DD. Intel team better warn me when that pup shows up

yeah, that's really stupid
at least from the magazine that didn't sound like the case, but that was early on in the game, it only started being a thing very late in PW
Unless we have to train him up too, Big Boss should still have infinite sprint, and is probably generally versatile enough to probably make his way through the game comfortably without any bullshit so long as the player prepares equipment-wise. I guess being able to train up a soldier to S rank stat tiers can be considered either non-canon or an entirely optional way of play sort of thing, honestly.
If all of my soldiers can be S-ranked, there better be an ending where we take over the world
So does this sorta confirm that our soldiers can be buddies now?
It'd be kinda stupid if we can play as them but not use them as buddies.

People are still holding out hope for being able to co-op as the regular soldiers alongside a Big Boss or even just a troop of mooks, still.

Imagine fucking over Big Boss like CQCing him and tranquilizing.
Also I really really hope the ranking system doesn't affect anything (eg you got an S so have more gmp). Why can't I play the way I want? GZ felt like if I caught caught I should just restart rather than go on a rampage.

pls no co-op
as fun as Peace Walker bro-ops were I hated that sideops were impossible to do by myself.
forgive me for wanting to play games by myself in 2015

I imagine they're avoiding Monster Hunter mentality this time around, so excessive grinding and forced grouping to hope to complete bullet-spongey bosses and really annoying missions would not be around this time. But odds are more likely there's no co-op.
also vaguely not excited to hear there's going to be lots of replaying missions, that shit devalues games like crazy
I've recently been into Payday 2 and good god is it a grindfest I'm tired of playing the same missions over, I don't want to keep going for the best soldiers
I suspect I probably won't get too deep into Extra Ops but rather focus on the main story. I crapped out at about 75% of PW's extra ops when I realized I'd be fighting that tank 30 more times
Also I really really hope the ranking system doesn't affect anything (eg you got an S so have more gmp). Why can't I play the way I want? GZ felt like if I caught caught I should just restart rather than go on a rampage.
Honestly it'd make sense for completing missions better to get you more GMP. But it's not like that'll stop me, I only really care for perfect stealth on replays and improvise on the run if i'm dicking around or on my first playthrough.
Imagine fucking over Big Boss like CQCing him and tranquilizing.
That's called foreplay.
Ground Zeroes is a continuation of the prequel storyline that follows Big Boss. 1 and 2 follow Solid Snake and are set in the "current" timeline. Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain follow Metal Gear Solid 3, which is set during the Cold War I believe. It's pretty understandable if your confused. I would recommend playing 3 and then Peace Walker to get an understanding of who the characters are. Both are very good games.
but coop didnt make sideops impossible, it only added to them
you can complete the entire game solo, the hardest sideops are probably the elite higher tier vehicles and the monster rex tranq challenge
As far as I know, it's impossible to solo S rank vehicle battles because there aren't enough fultons. If it's actually possible then it looks like I've got some work to do.

(All other side-ops are possible to S rank though.)

Fulton Carl Gustav + infinite ammo bandana?
Anyone else hoping for
[sp]You entering your own base (which you have created) as Solid Snake and you have to kill Big Boss
Or something like that[/sp]
