Prepare yourself for Act 3: Bullshitting.
Woo, Act 2 of MGS4 completed.
jaysus christ dude you are barelling through these games
word of warning though act 3 is the lowest point of MGS4
Interested to see what you think of 4 especially after a marathon.
Metal Gears tech level has always been bizarre.
Metal Gear 1 had fucking androids. Metal Gear 2 had a bacteria that produced petroleum, OILIX. [sp](and was never heard from again)[/sp]
I dunno. I imagine that retrieving OILIX in MG2 ultimately may've helped [sp]the Patriots with all their funding and resources that they keep in reserve, to control the rest of the world with.[/sp] The world's still in an energy and oil crisis for citizens due to the war economy being the primary focus by MGS4, after all.

I've had a lot of time off due to all the snow we've gotten, my copy of the Legacy Collection arrived at a perfect time.
word of warning though act 3 is the lowest point of MGS

Also where Big Boss apparently had not one, but two gigantic facilities that were even better than Outer Heaven before he got Outer Heaven.
This still pisses me off. If I could do a major overhaul on Peace Walker I'd replace Mother Base with the actual Outer Heaven. I'd also have it so that Big Boss is the guy calling the shots instead of having Miller suggest shit over the phone every once in a while.
man, talking about super advanced tech, how bout the fact that Zadornov has a perfect cyborg arm in the 70's
we don't got that shit now
Personally, I would rather have a full-on modern remake of Metal Gear 1 and 2 then a remake of Metal Gear Solid.
Quite a few plot points in thoose two that just kinda... vanish. Mostly because there wasnt really a intended followup on thoose two.
I wouldn't be totally against a remake / retcon fest of MG1/2 that sort of mushed them together into one big story.
Also, it drives my OCD wild that the games go 1964, '74, '84, then '95, 05.
WHY KOJIMA.
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT.
I wouldn't be totally against a remake / retcon fest of MG1/2 that sort of mushed them together into one big story.
That would be the perfect way to bring the series full circle imo.
Wouldn't mind a remake of MGS3 either, even though it's aged pretty well. Just imagine it in the Fox engine with bigger maps, though. Damn.
What the fuck that was a lot of inportant story stuff there Big Mama. I din't know know whether to go "Thats BS" or "Wow, that's actually sort of clever" now.

Is this seriously a drawn out Religion metaphor????
Is this seriously a drawn out Religion metaphor????
get used to really drawn out metaphors in general
You guys have been talking about the possibility of a MGS1 remake, but I don't think we'll see one because Kojima said he won't have anyone else voice Campbell since the voice actor has died (Japanese one before you comment). I doubt they would reuse the vocals from MGS1 or the remake because the audio quality is outdated.
Didn't either Liquids or Ocelot's japanese VA die and then pick up full slack for Liquid Ocelot?
[editline]3rd February 2015[/editline]
it's not unreasonable to keep going without a voice actor.
After all, the english series lost Snake's voice actor.

Ocelots Japanese VA died so Liquids, Banjo something i think, replaced him.

The fuck.
David Hayters not dead.
[editline]2nd February 2015[/editline]
And Kiefer was chosen, besides Kojimas hollywood hard-on, for sounding older. So i cant imagine Hayter wouldnt reprise Solid Snake or a flashback of young Big Boss.
[editline]2nd February 2015[/editline]
Kojima knows people would riot if it happened.
Oh thank god Act 3 is over. i hear this ends with a 2 hour cutscene though, rip me.
[editline]2nd February 2015[/editline]
That little MGS1 section was nice.
I get that MGS4 has a lot of cutscenes and receives a lot of shit for it but it's like people forgot that MGS2 also had long ass cutscenes. Like when Ocelot is lecturing on arsenal gear and I didn't want to press start because I didn't know if you could pause it or not so I held in my piss for half an hour

It's weird because MGS1 had a couple lengthy scenes (Liquid's rant after REX gets wrecked, conversations with Sniper Wolf during her death or Naomi about her origins and such), but the game was actually fairly brief and to the point compared to MGS2 and especially MGS4. MGS3 had some long scenes, but most of it was front-loaded to the beginning of the game with occasional stuff interspersed throughout until the attempt to rescue Sokolov. After that, gameplay and scenes are liberally intermixed all over up until the ending not long after.
It's like Metal Gear Solid 2 wanted to purposefully be drawn out and annoying with its long cutscenes, especially whenever Fortune is on scene, and then Solid 4 did the same thing unintentionally.

At least there was interesting shit going on and being said in the cutscenes. The scene on top of Arsenal is one of my favorites in the whole series.
Cutscenes in MGS4 on the other hand just put me to fucking sleep unless Snake's doing CQC or something. What's even worse is that the game holds two Guinness world records for video game cutscenes.
The fucking cutscene at the end of Act 3 is so goddamn long for no real reason. It's just padded out with shite.

mgs4 is a prime example of a good creative mind being pushed into doing something
tpp seems to be hella more inspired. methinks kojima just wanted to leave mgs2's ending open. it's kind of ridicilous really that revengeance, an outsourced game of all things, remedied the modern-era mgs canon.
Don't forget Act 3 also has the WORST boss fight in the entire series.
Fuck you Raging Raven.

Don't forget MGS 4 has the WORST boss group in the entire series.
Fuck you B&B Corps
I'm pretty sure one of the reasons everyone loves the shit out of the Liquid Ocelot fight is because it's the only fight in the game where you fight someone that isn't a boring one dimensional character.
I kinda liked the fight with Crying Wolf, and loved the Act 4 end fight as well as the Liquid Ocelot fight. B&B Corps are shit, yeah, but honestly, the Cobras are probably worse for me character-wise. They're a bunch of magical fuckers and only two of them really get any context besides The Boss (The End and The Sorrow) while the others are just batshit or THE PAAIIINN (paaiin paaiin). They only rank above the B&Bs to me out of being more far more memorable, as well as not having Drebin chime in with melodrama after I kill them.

well either that or you get to one on one fist fight the main fucking villain of the series but also go through the main themes and celebrate the series coming to a close
and not only is it Brother vs Brother but it's also the children of Big Boss vs The Boss so shit is pretty epic and climactic

To be fair to The Cobras, they at least have good intros and you can get a sense of their personality without having it explained to you over the radio.
Compare The Fury to Raging Raven. He tells you he was in space and that when he came down he saw the world on fire, and throughout the fight he clearly thinks he's still on a space mission. Raging Raven just says "Show me your rage. RAGE!" and screams "RAAAAAGE!" through the whole fight.
What's this about MGS4 having the worst bosses in the series? MGS4 was the only game in the series with bosses that DIDN'T completely piss me off, except for the final fight with Ocelot which was fucking terrible gameplay wise (was made up for in the presentation and shit. [sp]Naked Snake vs Ocelot with Snake Eater playing, fuck yeah. Not to mention the cutscenes surrounding it. Was fucking great as far as that goes.[/sp]) with what felt like extremely unresponsive controls and just generally confusing shit that worked sometimes and didn't other times. MGS2, in my opinion, was the absolute worst when it came to boss fights. MGS3's were okay, as were MGS1's.
Really, in my opinion, MGS as a series is pretty weak with boss fights.
Character wise though yeah I see what everyone is saying. The BB Corps was just literally "EMOTION!!! LET ME HEAR YOUR EMOTION", and then Drebin saying "fighting with you helped them get over it for some reason". It was pretty dumb. They were fun fights though.

MGS4's bosses were the only ones without any of those neat little gimmicks that you could play around with like the others (mainly thinking of the Cobra Unit when i bring up this point), and none of them really had any kind of personality at all.
