Metal Gear Solid - Tactical Megathread Action VIII - We Are Diamond Dogs!

I thought of something today. Can you imagine, in TPP, that you have built up your combat unit fairly well, and you have some strong, reliable soldiers in there. They have been with you the longest. Maybe you've trained with them and sparred with them, and under your command they have become strong and loyal.
So, one day, you send one of them into battle (in outer-ops or something) and a report comes in that he was KIA. It would be heartbreaking, and it's not even a scripted event. It's just something Boss (and you) will have to deal with as the leader of a group of combatants trying to expand and thrive.
The other thought I had was that, these outer-ops would actually be against other player's armies (and maybe we could go with them if we want, to aid in battle). It would be such an awesome experience.
I hope we can give funerals for those soldiers we lose in battle

we'll make diamonds from their ashes, take them into battle with us
[sp]secondary item: urn of ashes
one time use, blinds the enemy for 10 seconds[/sp]

[sp]POCKET URN[/sp]
I wanna turn those diamonds into necklaces and rings and carry bling into battle
I prefer the idea of making "Diamonds from their asses."
Press the action button to smear it all over your face. Camo Index -100%
There better be nuclear camo. Then I can finally say "I'm nuclear!"

I just realised... there are rumors that MSF (and maybe Kaz) will split off from Big Boss in at least some fashion, indicating a betrayal somewhere down the line in Phantom Pain. What if you literally had to face against the very exact soldiers you trained with identical stats and even with the same faces as the portraits? It wouldn't be too hard to implement, since the bulk of them will be recruited from enemy NPCs, but it would make the emotional punch a bit harder; after training them up, you have to gun each and every one of them down. Maybe depending on the player's actions throughout the game, more or less soldiers will turn against him?
It would also be kinda similar to the Metal Gear ZEKE fight, which I think we can agree was a pretty genius idea. Especially since we can customize Mother Base too to some degree, so when the betrayal happens, it will probably happen on the customized map; meaning it will already be pretty much tailored to the player. Crap, now I know I'll be too scared to recruit anyone :tinfoil:
I don't know if I should spoiler the first bit in case that ends up being true.
Boss! Get back to the mission!

Yeah I think it's going to be obvious whether or nor we'll have to fight in them once we actually get to walk around the base. Like how it's incredibly obvious you're eventually going to have to fight in the home base in [sp]Dishonored and wolfenstein:TNO[/sp]
Hmm, we'll have to see, but they did make some mention about it being customizable? Unless that's just the colour scheme or something.
Another thing I've noticed is that Mother Base is supposed to be responsible for soldier training, yet we don't usually get to see it (or maybe we do, been a while since I played Peace Walker)
What if Big Boss took the role of the Drill Sergeant from Peace Walker? Imagine Kief the Chief telling you how to hold an enemy in a chokehold, or how to conduct CPR, manage PTSD, and cook instant noodles.

Especially since soldiers only improving when you use them can easily become self-defeating if they're weak

It'd also be good to see some streamlining when it comes to the divisions
For example, in R&D. Gunsmiths to make weapons, Fashion Designers for camo, Engineers for gadgets, Cardboard Scientists for cardboard box upgrades, Roboticists for prosthetics, Mechanics for vehicles, etc
Can probably be condensed more but oh well
iirc Peace Walker needed Gunsmiths for each weapon type
And finally, gimme some boss-specific weapons, Kojima. Portable Ops, MGS3 and MGS4 all had that in some way.
Maybe beating Quiet (assuming she is a boss battle at some point) gets you that teleporter from the MGO trailer?

Remove the s
So I found a blog on Tumblr dedicated to the butts of Metal Gear.

So I decided to watch the original 1988 dub of Akira today. Turns out Kaneda and Kei are voiced by Cam Clarke and Lara Cody, who respectively played Liquid and Rose. I thought that was pretty cool.

I made a thing on my dedicated Pole-Arm playthrough
Something i keep noticing whenever i play Ground Zeroes, Big Boss' chest looks weird.
I dont know, something about it looks off, like its too long, or it doesnt move at all when his arms do.
[QUOTE=Egevened;47125126]okay guys so peace walker works with co-op on an emulator (not warez, I have the game and made an .iso from it)
anyone wants to play, write me a pm or better add me on steam under the same name and I'll explain, it's like two steps
[editline]12th February 2015[/editline]
strictly the PSP version, HD collection ver is not really emulatable[/QUOTE]
How did you even get the coop to work on PPSSPP? I've been trying with a friend and we just get stuck on the loading screen then we get a network error when we start the mission. We tried versus Ops and it worked but coop didn't.
Bought the new 3DS, is it worth getting Snake Eater again on it? It's my favourite game in the series and I can get it for 18 quid off the nintendo shop!
If you're fine with 20 fps with drops now and then and controls that aren't the best then yeah why not.
So that pixel art I posted a few pages back got re-tweeted by the big man himself.

Thanks G71tc4 for pointing this out to me. I never would have found this out otherwise since somebody else shared it :v:
a 4 player metal gear CQC-em up game would be great. Just all these dudes and women throwing the bad guys on the ground, breaking necks, disarming soldiers then shooting them and fighting metal gears would be a lot of fun
Man, if only I had known about the HD Collection port of Peace Walker sooner. The comic book cutscenes look awful upscaled, but [i]that smooth 60 FPS.[/i]
Fuck the adm65, m19, and anybody who uses them. God damn.
How the hell do people get headshots so easily in Peace Walker?

actually, I think the 60fps gameplay looks way too arcadey compared to the 21fps lock of the psp version
[editline]15th February 2015[/editline]
also shinkawa has always drawn on small pieces of paper, the PW cutscenes being 'awful upscaled' are a feature

When it comes to anything revolving around shooting or platforming, even if in this case it's stealth action for the former, i'd rather take a smooth framerate over a choppy one. I emulated Peace Walker before, but at least the resolution and screensize of the PSP proper were what Shinkawa's artwork were intended for; seeing it blown up on an HDTV, even with the text and QTEs in higher res, it just seems like it wasn't given any decent upscale treatment most of the rest of the game got (besides the simple icons). Then again, most of the interface and otherwise were probably redrawn entirely just for the port, so meh.

this is the internal res of the game. make a guess at how many shits they gave about upscaling these. they would have had to have them redrawn.
[editline]15th February 2015[/editline]
(hotlinking rescaled it from 600x380, which is what it is)

I guess I should be grateful they didn't put Resident Evil HD REmake sharpen and blur filters all over them then. :v:
