I feel like people are reading too much into the tweets. It could all just be bug testing and him having fun with stuff, like the bandages on his face and Snake "taking a shower to wash off blood." Not to say none of it is credible since Kojima is known for details like this but I really doubt the shower thing at the very least is real.

I'm replaying MGS4 right now and someone seriously needs to make a drinking game for whenever someone says the words: fate, sin, atone, beauty, beast, nanomachines, shadow, light, or proxy. I can guarantee you'll be dead by Act V.

More to do with trying to tie up loose ends in the space of 15 minutes.

The biggest issues I have with MGS4 is trying too much to tie up everything, and Raiden. I love Raiden, but I hate that Raiden's arc of 2 is basically thrown out the window. "Be your own man! Live freely! NVM, be anime Gray Fox because the west didn't like you." A man who constantly escaped death throughout his adult life is finally at a time where he has control over his own destiny, isn't being strung along by patriots, or campbell, or even Otacon but finally has his own choice and can't make it, because he's scared and wants to live. The post credit phone call basically confirms he didn't want to die anyway and wants to spend the remaining portion of his life with his boyfriend and adorable russian daughter

Snake is fully confident that anytime he steps out into a battlefield he's going to win. He's a man bred for war who's been nicknamed "The Man Who Makes the Impossible, Possible." He's not scared of taking down Metal Gears because that's what he does. When he's kneeling at the gravestone it's the first time in his life he realized he was truly in danger of actually dying, and crapped out at the last moment.

He was probably scared shitless the first couple times he took them down.
