Don't worry, they'll just kill off MG and reboot it as Contra
of course, but we've yet to see what's taboo about it.
The references to sexual violence, depictions of child soldiers and graphic torture don't push your buttons?
Rest in Peace metal gear, you had a good run.
Better ignore anything past The Phantom Pain, because Konami is bound to try and milk the cow by outsourcing it, and it's going to fucking suck.
The references to sexual violence, depictions of child soldiers and graphic torture don't push your buttons?
barely
barely
Just because it didn't push your buttons doesn't mean its not a taboo topic though. I remember loads of people stateside being mad as hell about it. Just google MGS V Ground Zeroes controversy or similar terms.
I do agree with you at least partly though, I don't believe it was MGSV. Given that this is the first I have heard of it, hasn't Kojima wanted to do a horror game for some time. By 2012 he was talking about wanting to do a Silent Hill game, so maybe the taboo project was what would become Silent Hills. Depending on how long he had been in contact with in contact with Del Toro it might fit. It has the framework to be far more controversial than MGS.
I dunno just speculating.
Fuck.
[editline]19th March 2015[/editline]
I hope Kojima stays in the game industry.
Given his, and his team's, history. Someone will pick them right up, fund them for any future projects.
I'm fine with MGSV being the last MGS game, but what does this mean for Silent Hills? Silent Hill is a Konami IP.
Well if konami wasn't dying before this then they sure are fucked now. Pretty much killing their biggest IP seems like a good way to kill yourself.
They have other sources of income aside from console games, the most significant probably being their gambling machines.
I'm fine with MGSV being the last MGS game, but what does this mean for Silent Hills? Silent Hill is a Konami IP.
It means that Guillermo Del Toro is gonna slug back another beer, mumble whatever the Spanish for "godfuckingdammit not again" is under his breath, and put the teaser poster on a shelf next to the one for his THQ/Volition project.
I'd hate to see Metal Gear go the way of Castlevania. Konami outdsourced that and pretty much erased 25 years of lore. They sure know how to ruin'em.
Edit
Shit, I forgot Kojima had a hand in the new Castlevanias. That explains a lot :v:
Serious answer, from the guy at Gamespot who did that article:

MGS is also a Konami IP, so it'll still get games. Just, you know, really bad ones.
At least now we know he'll try to make this the best god damn MGS ever.
What if Kojima never worked on MGS 5 and only pretended to?
At least now we know he'll try to make this the best god damn MGS ever.
I'll be really surprised if this tops Metal Gear Solid 3. That's arguably the best one.
I actually would not mind Kojima going solo and just start a whole new IP, perhaps again with a modern-day conspiracy thing going on.
Honestly, this is great news for Kojima, but kinda bad news for Fox Engine, MGSV, and the MGS Series as a whole. And Silent Hills apparently.
This is going to be a long term development to see the benefits, but in the meantime, I am feeling worried about what could happen with Phantom Pain.

maybe smartphone games
rip

Imagine if Metal Gear got yearly releases.
Wow, this is really shitty news. I'm getting flashbacks to when Capcom fired Keiji Inafune and murdered Mega Man. What are these companies even thinking? Kojima isn't the most amazing game den, but I have a lot of respect for how much he cares about his work and his fans.
I wasn't going to put "A Hideo Kojima Game" on those custom covers I'm doing, but I think I will now. Especially TPP's. I don't know what happened, but either way it's a shitty move to rip his name off of the game like that. Fuck Konami.
Could you imagine Kojima looking for a business to scoop him up
One of the big 3 would love taking in the KojiPro guys

Imagine Kojima making a Zelda game.
I know MGSV is going to come out alright, but I'm still worried about Silent Hills. PT scares the shit out of me
Imagine Kojima making a Zelda game.
Ohh god, my brain is already running through the possible psychological horrors. I'm just imaging a young Link setting out on his quest as a naive adventurer, messing up something he shouldn't have trying to be a hero, then being broken down over the course of the game before ending up cold and disillusioned trying to stop the consequences of his naive early actions from destroying all of Hyrule. And then at the end he saves Hyrule but can't save Zelda.
so for everyone's information about the 'a hideo kojima game' thing being removed
the 'a hideo kojima game' thing is a logo of kojiproductions, not kojima's self-insert
his name stays in the game, the game will start with something like 'producer : hideo kojima' instead of ' a hideo kojima game' since that is copyright kojipro, and kojipro does not exist anymore as a part of konami
???
uh it's like any big company having seperate logos? you know on any copyright screen
'a game by hideo kojima and the kojima productions logo are properties of kojima productions'
Kojima should go indie to show how it's done.
Kojima should go indie to show how it's done.
why, so he can have great ideas and no funding to develop them? fuck that
kojima has the most street cred possibly in the whole industry, he could knock on the door of any company and they'd accept him
I'd love him to start making movies. Or, to be more precise, continue making them, but with less interactive elements.
