This is correct. And with Magic frowned upon in Skyrim, and the majority of the country being Beefarms McStrongsalot, tech doesn't progress very quickly there to begin with. Wonder what kind of tech the rest of the world has, though.
Skyrim isn't set in actual year times. Oblivion is supposedly set during the 1200s, logic-wise, so Skyrim would logically be in the 1400s. Technology wise, Skyrim is about 100 years before Piracy became really big. Maybe 200. I suppose it's a sort of "counting for inflation" sort of thing. The game states it sets place in around 253 4th Era, or something akin to that, but scene and technology wise, around the 1300s to maybe 1400s.
Uh how does that matter in anyway Oblivion had pirates, it even had a "pirate's cave" DLC. It's called a "game".
The technology in TES isn't evolving as fast as in our world because of magic.
There should really be a steam group chat meeting to set down some ground rules if we're going to keep pressing forward with this pirate guild idea, because right now the planning seems pretty chaotic imo. Or maybe at least divide contributors into groups, some creating regular townspeople and polishing the city, and others working closely together on factions and extensive questlines.
If you can get me a cup of water when I want, you're hired as the new assistant to the assistant writer.
Im not sure if you were being sarcastic, but I was being serious. Like I mentioned above, having a list of who is doing what would really help, along with many other things. This definitely needs more structure to be successful. And to clarify, Im not asking to make decisions and plan this stuff out myself. I was just volunteering to organize the information others give me, so that everyone can benefit. Even if I'm not the one to do it, I feel someone should.

This is where we need experience in game design planning. How the fuck are we to plan this whole thing ? A meeting would help but what would we talk about in the meeting exactly ? We need some sort of help in organizing game development. Let's contact video game developers :v: (I'm just kidding)

A steam group would also let the developers get help and organization much easier. The whole group could reach priorities, consensuses, discuss what goes in, what gets removed, etc.

But yeah I think we need someone to organize everything, we tried with the google doc but even that is very chaotic and theres still heaps of content that has been discussed and shared throughout this thread and have yet to be added to the google doc sheet. But I think this requires alot of experience Bearded. No offense but I'm afraid that you might not know how to organize this thing. There is so much behind it. How are you to make a list of what to do ? You would need direct, quick communication to me, oskutin, oicani, G-Strogg, Zeldar and the rest in order to know what to put in it. You'd need to know what we have been doing for the past month. I also think we need alot of moderators in this steam group and that way we have a "homepage" that everybody (who we can trust) can modify & update. And of course the chat room that comes with it.
I'll try and tackle organizing this tonight. I'll show some screenshot when I'm done. Wish me luck.

I was simply volunteering because I doubted anyone else would want to do the "paperwork", but if there are other people (like Vizard, etc.) that will, then obviously they have more experience in this project and should do it. I'm simply trying to get involved and trying to show that I will put serious effort into this. So now I simply ask, what can I do to help? I mean I offer some decent ideas on your stream and beta test stuff when I can, but what do you need done that will really help advance this project? I'm willing to help at any angle you need to me, whether it be story, dialogue, or even voice-acting (if you need someone who sounds like a complete redneck lol), etc. You point me to what needs done and let me prove I will try to do it. Thanks in advance.

Right now we are using pretty much 90% of all the resources we can get. So if you would have an idea on how to organize some parts of this project or write a nice little side quest and share it with us here then by all means you are welcome to. And we are most likely to be using it. It's just that if you don't do a good job at it, we might decide not to use it. Oh and read up on the project as much as possible before doing work. We won't accept a quest that has entirely new characters for example.
I've gone through three pages of the thread, and this is going really well. Give me an hour and I should be done.

I mean that's the purpose of something like this, to make as many people as possible like it. I already posted those couple of things I think needs to be better organized and I'll hopefully have a small side-quest worked up in the next couple of days. I may try to make one for the "flipped boat" guy, if he isn't completely finished already, or I may just make a small idea that maybe could be incorporated into the pirate guild questline. I've been reading through this forum and the documents all day, so I'm getting a better understanding of where this project is. After Vizard posts his "review" or whatever he calls it, I may comment on my thoughts on how it is organized and such. Thanks.
I'm at about 50 something word documents all together, neatly organized, some ideas confirmed, some suggested, full list of voice actors, and working on a credits list of features and who made/suggested them. http://imgur.com/38VV0 Lots of actual pictures too, so when this is done, we can make a timelapse slideshow!
It sounds really good so far, but can this be incorporated into the Google Doc Sheet ? or is the purpose of this to replace the google sheet we made ?
It'll work in conjunction to the google sheet. The google sheet should be for features that are confirmed while this one will contain all files for reference and ideas.
We need a better name then "Pirate Guild" like someone mentioned, Guild doesn't really seem pirate-ish. [editline]6th April 2012[/editline] Oh and Vizard, your initiation is actually 3 quests. It would be nice if you could divide them into 3 parts for better organization on the google doc sheet. (if you check it out then you'll know what I mean) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtiY-c8QASg7dEJXdm16dGdYSGhuUXRfZ051d3JYUkE#gid=0 [editline]6th April 2012[/editline] I also did some better organizing for the quests in the bottom and I also cleaned up various useless comments and made the pirate guild section much prettier and easier to read. Oh and there is a character missing from the character list. It's ormil the high elf fisherman. (I have made his house and his routine and everything)
If we're talking about one crew of pirates under a single captain then it's just, "Join the crew.", rather than talk of an official guild. If there are multiple pirate factions you could also go with: - "The _______ Company" as a front - "The _______ Lodge" - Union / organization / clan / league / federation / etc You'd be careful not to match that trade company in Solitude which seems to operate as a sort of official imperial pirate group. Part of being a pirate is throwing off the bonds of authority so having a "guild" is quite strange. I think they'd only need a piratical lodge to stay in during shore leave, and maybe an "official" banner to hide behind while dealing with the Sovereign and/or shady businesses.
Done! 22.6 Megabytes of Compressed goodness! Please enjoy the organization! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71345041/Luftahraan.zip
@Wheeze - That page looks so much better now! It's still a little hard to follow, but that's to be expected. @Vizard - That looks really good too. The only "critiques" I'd suggest is more bolding or italicizing of titles and such so it has more contrast to the overall text documents. So I think I'm going to take a shot at designing the idea of a small quest for Pavo Abor. Some things I need to know are: what is his schedule? what is his age? are there any specific characteristics that I need to adhere to with his character? (other than the parts already listed, ie former sailor / escaping past, etc.) I'll hopefully have this done by Saturday evening. Thanks!
Dialogue is done. Any voice actors up for some work finally? https://docs.google.com/document/d/15wMhU5Gxl_6ZYPZX2S9NSWXdtZ5ValGcshCPIQ0W8Q0/edit
It'll be a while until I can give that a go. I'm quite busy until next week. I'll also do something more serious than my previous voice (as seen in my soundcloud over on the left), unless that is something people actually liked to have in the game and not just as a joke.
Back, going to try voicing that vizard38 and you guys can decide if I work for the role or not. Oh, and can the captain be khajiit?
Done. The final version (If my voice works for him) will have all the audio leveled to be the same volume. This is for Ruufgard And this my Khajiit that I want to use for that poet character. Finally I did this on like page 2, voice I could use for that mage living in that tower working for the Sovereign. One thing only (And this is not you're fault) it's not the pirates killing the player, it's mercenaries. + What effects did you use on your voice?

And as far as effects go, a slight echo on the mage voice, and beyond that it's all natural.
Are you serious? What mic do you use? With that voice you're ready for radio, it got such depth. I' not sure I think It's supposed to be mercenaries. But I'll have to talk to Vizard about it since he wrote it.
I have a few people I know besides myself willing to voice act as well, and still have a few voices up my sleeve. So if you guys can get finalized scripts I can start getting people together and start cranking these things out. @jonathanmoray Just realized this was you: http://facepunch.com/threads/1165664?p=35411787&viewfull=1#post35411787 If you'd like, it'd be nice to have someone directing my voice acting. I have a few friends on skype so are currently doing it but they're getting bored real quick. :v: If you'd be interested you could just sit in skype with me for a few hours whenever we're both free and direct and then help edit after?
