I'm spending time with the family this weekend so I'm not able to do any VA right now. I could, however, assist with coming up with some decent and natural sounding dialogue for future reference. I'll just need to take a look at some of the quests, get a feel for the NPC's, and whip something up in the googledoc hopefully.
So, uh... I was about to post EXACTLY that paragraph. I'm in the same situation, family situation and all; can do writing now, can do voice acting later. I also have some friends who I can get to help, so if anybody needs voices for multiple characters who have to have fluid dialogue with one another or whatever, we can do that.
@Nitrowing and Benstroke Just start writing. Honestly. do something similar to this http://pastebin.com/2JSAN0cu for a bunch of characters. And I'm a really bad writer but I love this character.
Wanted to voice something. Went to that google docs list and picked: • M'raaj-Dar "Khajiit pirate captain who desires to marry Sherina" Was on skype with two friends and his character evolved into a bad poet who almost entirely speaks in rhymes :v:. What we got after 30 minutes: (That's first takes on everything, no noise reduction yet, wanted to get your opinions before I continued. Also I don't know how to do dialog so if I continue someone else would have to add it in-game.) http://soundcloud.com/xane225/mraaj-dar-poet-in-skyrim] M'raaj-Dar: Could I borrow some of your time to bounce my rhymes off your mind? Player: That couldn't possibly be worth my time. (PLAYER LEAVES) I suppose I could spare a moment.(CONTINUE) By day, I master a vessel, by night, it is with words I nestle. It is for sherina my affection, that I strive for poetic perfection Who is Sherina? To explain a beautiful so vast, is like piloting a ship with no mast. Let my heart take the wheel and describe how I feel. Sherina, Oh dear Sherina The blossoms, wilt in your path Oh, if thy would just cast a look For you, Even I would bath I am your fish, You are my hook My one, My true, sherina The ground quakes with every stride My heart trembles, at your glance In the shadows, I always hide For you, I plead just a chance Sherina, my true light, Sherina Not a mirror can last your sight I long to anchor into your marina To carry you, would take all my might Oh, dear Sherina, My life, My love, My Sherina [editline]3rd April 2012[/editline] And yes he did just call her fat three times, foul smelling once and ugly twice. He's a very bad poet. :v:
So if you could do it for him that would be awesome.
What needs to be done?????
Everything. [editline]7th April 2012[/editline]
Done Editing -Started the Pirates Guild iniation quest. Lots of problems had to be dealt with so I couldn't get very far. File: http://filesmelt.com/dl/luftahraan7.rar
Did it in the style of the enchanting merchant. More poems/worse poems can be added later and quest dialogue as well when it becomes relevant.

That reminds me, could someone finish the Hammer&Sickle -smithy.
Finished editing! - Nearly done with the pristine LuftahraanLighthouse interior, just a few things left! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3676303/Luft/Luft.zip

He's a pirate, not really a poet, although he does create some terrible poetry to try to impress Sherina.
Should i finish hammer & sickle what does it need?
Editing (in 5minutes) stream: http://www.twitch.tv/wheeze202 [editline]7th April 2012[/editline] I hate quests!
Should i finish hammer & sickle what does it need?
Yes, and it needs downstairs and weapon racks and the table where the owner sells stuff.
Finally caught you streaming Wheeze! Yay!
So I was really annoyed by a quest and I decided to kill the quest giver and repeatedly hacked his corpse with my axe out of frustration. So one of my (dedicated) stream viewers decided to cheer me up:
Done Editing -Continued the intro quest for the luftahraan pirates. (it's not finished) -Made slight modifications to the docks(some argonian and some mercenaries kept fighting) -added a bandit faction to the Luftahraan Dockmaster Argonian(to fix conflict between some NPC's I had to spawn for the quest, this should not make him hostile or anything) File: http://filesmelt.com/dl/luftahraan8.rar
We'll need to get quest makers somewhere.
There's a small problem with your dialogue. He's a pirate, not really a poet, although he does create some terrible poetry to try to impress Sherina.
Well, shoot. I guess I should just stick to voice acting then.

Hey guys, Wheeze apparently didn't know that in the group anyone can invite anyonve :v: Either just holler to him or me for an invite to the group.
How do I check if a quest alias is inside the players inventory or not? I am doing a quest where 3 items need to be in the players inventory in order to advance the quest. So what I am trying to do is that I am trying to apply a script to a alias to check if other aliases exist within the players inventory. So I have no proper idea on how to go about doing this but what I thought it would look like is something like this:
Scriptname LPGLootPickup1 extends ReferenceAlias Event onContainerChanged(ObjectReference akNewContainer, ObjectReference akOldContainer) if akNewContainer == Game.GetPlayer() if akNewContainer == Alias_RuufgardLoot2.GetReference() if akNewContainer == Alias_RuufgardLoot3.GetReference() GetOwningQuest().SetStage(30) endif endif endif endEvent
But I'm guessing the "if akNewContainer == Alias_RuufgardLoot2.GetReference()" doesn't exactly work. But what I didn't expect was that it responded with an error:
e:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source\temp\LPGLootPickup1.psc(5,23): variable Alias_RuufgardLoot2 is undefined e:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source\temp\LPGLootPickup1.psc(5,43): none is not a known user-defined type e:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source\temp\LPGLootPickup1.psc(6,23): variable Alias_RuufgardLoot3 is undefined e:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source\temp\LPGLootPickup1.psc(6,43): none is not a known user-defined type
So TL;DR question is basically: What sort of papyrus script do I need/use in order to check if an alias exists within the players inventory? Bear in mind that this script is applied to an alias. (basically 3 items checking if the other 2 are in the players inventory each time their containers get changed)
oh shit forgot to say finish editing. Done Editing -Made the Rivorath Household much prettier -Tried to continue the Luftahraan Pirate Intro quest File: http://filesmelt.com/dl/luftahraan9.rar
It seems that quests are really hard. Is it worth putting quests in?
Well yeah, we're hoping to add some quests along with this city. It would pretty underwhelming for anyone downloading this mod for the first time if we didn't. [editline]7th April 2012[/editline] I'd prefer that we fill all the interiors with the proper npcs and factions and such before moving on to the quests themselves, but either way I'd be happy to provide suggestions.
It seems that quests are really hard. Is it worth putting quests in?
Skyrim without quests is like oreos without milk.
Skyrim without quests is like oreos without milk.
But you know first hand how frustrating it is to make them. I don't know of we should make the quest much simpler than they are?
We're not shooting for a launch window, unlike Bethesda, so we've got more time to learn the ins and outs of the engine and editor... Probably moreso than the developers themselves! If we're pushing for a quality product here, then we need to make sure it's quality all the way through. That means use as much effort as possible to keep it as interesting and as good as possible, whilst maintaining a high degree of quality and synergy and buzzwords. Also, I'll be home all week, so if you can make me a list of assets you might need, I can take a crack at them. I'm going to be boxing up things for my great uncle (Terminal with leukemia... Selling his stuff to pay his hospital bills, also taking his fridge... Because he has a cool fridge.) until late Monday, so the earliest I can get something to you is on Tuesday. If you need anything, let me know.
But you know first hand how frustrating it is to make them. I don't know of we should make the quest much simpler than they are?
That is a very bad mindset for game design. (and creating this thing is very similar to game design when you thinkn about it) We're going to make all the quests required to create a fun and interesting experience. Quests are extremely important.
There's a small problem with your dialogue. He's a pirate, not really a poet, although he does create some terrible poetry to try to impress Sherina.
Actually that was the point. He's a pirate poet. :v: He's so obsessed with creating poetry for her that he's testing it out on anyone, and he's so stuck in that mindset/in love, that he's constantly talking in rhymes. I love it Nitrowing.

And make him like a lighthearted Edgar Ellen Poe. And if Nitrowing I may make a request, could you use his voice for this:
Sherina My Queen It was many and many a year ago, In Elsywhere by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Sherina, my queen; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea: But we loved with a love that was more than love - I and my Sherina, my queen; With a love that the winged deadra Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A dragon blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Sherina; So that her high-born kinsmen came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The aedra, not half so happy in Nirn, Went envying her and me - Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud one night, Chilling and killing my darling Sherina But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we - Of many far wiser than we - And neither the aedra in heaven above, Nor the leviathans down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Sherina, my dear; For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Sherina; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Sherina; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling -my darling -my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea - In her tomb by the sounding sea.
