So will skins with stats be allowed at these upcoming tournaments? If so that's incredibly unfair.
Are we really gonna start holding tournaments for Payday 2? Because if so that's really fucking hilarious.
Proof-of-Concept tournament at DreamHack Winter next week
For those of you who are attending DreamHack Winter next week, we'll be hosting a proof-of-concept tournament where we test a heist in a tournament setting. This event is a test only and will have a small, symbolic payout for the three best teams that attend. Myself and several other OVERKILL crew members will be there if you want to come and say hi.
The 250K USD prize pool we have available will be split and used for many, many events to come when we have established a concept we think will work. During the coming months, we'll include members of the community in the design process in order to get feedback.
At DreamHack Winter, we'll have a special version of the Slaughterhouse heist, designed to work in a tournament setting. For this event, you only need to have a ticket to DreamHack as well as your own computer, and a crew of four heisters. More information will be available at the event.
We are currently working on a website update that will track where tournaments are and how much prize money is available at each and what you need to do in order to attend the event.
We look forward to hosting many, many tournaments across the world. Here are the dates again for the first few tournaments that we are planning:
DreamHack Winter, Jönköping Sweden. 26-29 November
DreamHack Moscow, Moscow Russia. 5-6 December
DreamHack Leipzig, Leipzig Germany. 22-24 January
DreamHack Austin, Austin USA. 6-8 May

So, what does your job here consist of? Are you supposed to answer our questions about what Overkill is working on, or questions in general, or do you just need to maintain a presence on these forums?

He's been a Facepunch user since before he was even hired at Overkill. A few months back in one of the older threads he was posting about when he first got hired as an animator. So his "job" here consists of just posting whatever he wants as long as it's nothing against the rules, same as you, me, and everyone else.
You have to supply your own computer for that tournament?
Do i read that right?
They also still don't clarify what they are gonna base this tournament on

Pretty sure he meant the new responsibilities Coyoteze mentioned taking on. The latest community update said that 8 developers would 'take an active role' in the community. Coyoteze is a part of that initiative.

Isn't that for every event like Dreamhack?
Dunno if you've been asked this before, Coyoteze (and if you have, sorry) but I'd figure I'd ask as you're one of OVK's animators.
During the Crimefest 2015 updates, melee weapon animations had some... questionable changes done to them. To list some of the more notable changes:
-The "melee_knife" animation (The reverse grip stab animation) has the knife hovering outside of my hand. Only animation variation 1 seems to be perfectly synced with my hand now.
-The Hotline Miami Fireaxe's unique animation was changed to be a copy of the Chivalry Great Axe animation
-The "melee_baseballbat" animation was changed to a close copy of the Chivalry Greatsword animation set, minus the rightward swing and also being slightly faster. The main issue here though is that you now occasionally "stab" with the bat. Wat?
-Much like the HM Fireaxe, the HM Baseball Bat now copies the "melee_baseballbat" animation set, "stab" and all.
-Much like the HM Fireaxe and HM Baseball Bat, the HM Machete's animation set has been changed to be a copy of either "melee_axe" or "melee_blunt". Regardless of which animation set is was changed to be a copy of, much like "melee_knife", the machete no longer syncs with my hand.
And to me, the biggest offender (as someone who occasionally dabbles in various sports involving punching):
-The "melee_fist" animation set (used by the "Bare Fists" and "Brass Knuckles" melee weapons) appear to have been reverted to their old "Air Traffic Controller" animation set. All of my why.

Coyote isn't a game animator, he does Cinematics animation (so basically the promotional stuff used for trailers like Crimefest 2015 and Spring Break or the Western Pack DLC trailer)

almir like the idea of playermade heists, undercover pretty much confirmed and nothing else than skin for the workshop.
At the beggining.
It's forty updates later and pistols still float to the left of the hand in the main menu screen.
Personally I would love the idea of people being able to make their own heists. Making a heist editor accessible and work for people isn't easy though.
that and "We'd love to have editor tools accessible for players in the future post-launch" is just dev speak for "no" 90% of the time

But releasing map editor tools would allow users to upload stuff to the workshop, which OVK could then sell as community packs winning money doing nothing (and copying valve)!

At least Valve doesn't sell maps. Just cosmetics.
But releasing map editor tools would allow users to upload stuff to the workshop, which OVK could then sell as community packs winning money doing nothing (and copying valve)!
It's kinda depressing just how much of Overkill's business plan seems to just be 'copy valve'. I know every game dev must be a little envious of how good Valve have got it considering they sell community-made cosmetics, and then take a 10% cut of every re-sale of those cosmetics on the steam market, as well as a 5% cut for hosting the steam market in the first place. I don't know much about CS:GO, but they basically trained their TF2 player base to both create and consume the content, all while earning fat stacks from them for minimal effort.
It's so obvious that that's what Overkill wants to some degree, and that's fine I guess, but there is just so little nuance to straight up copying TF2's update pages and CS:GO's weapon skins. If they added workshop support, it would undoubtedly be to sell community maps and skins, and that sucks. The PD2 workshop should be like L4D2's, a free haven for modding that keeps the game alive well beyond it's original lifetime.

If they even give us mapping tools I doubt they'll sell these maps.
No seriously, they've done enough shit, nobody will buy them.

I'd call it worse than copying CS:GO's skins. The skins in CS:GO are 100% entirely cosmetic, even the special versions only add a pointless kill counter that pretty much solely exists to add artificial value for trading. It doesn't fucking matter one iota whether you have a skin or not and no-one really cares, you won't get kicked from a comp match for not having a skin or anything.
On the other hand, Overkill added stat boosts so a player with a skin can straight up perform better than a player using the same gun with the same mods but no skin, and now these team boosts which seem to have become the new must-have-or-get-kicked thing among the shittier parts of the community.
I hope Overkill won't actually make their own stat traks
We already got 2 sites that track weapon stats, there's no reason to add another thing that does that
Plus kills really don't matter in a game that already throws shittons of enemies at you
If they even give us mapping tools I doubt they'll sell these maps.

You only need to buy the 'Bain Community Heist Pack #01' to host! Anyone can join for free, without owning the pack. Also some* of the proceeds go to supporting the creator of the map!
There you go, I've justified selling community made heists ahead of time. People like new content, and they'd much rather look at the positives (like community mapmakers getting paid, even if it's not very much), rather than the negatives (Overkill profiting from other people's work, pretty much like the chivalry crossover again).
the new must-have-or-get-kicked
Also I might not have posted in like 3 weeks but I still read the thread every day. I just haven't had anything to say since it's been a bit disheartening to see a lot of ripping on the entire studio.
I get what you all mean of course, and even if it isn't directly aimed at me it does feel like an "unwelcoming" gesture, if that makes sense.
I dont think anyone blames you personally, its not like you have any say in marketing decisions

But said mapmakers probably won't really like the idea of supporting OVK.
So modders will find a workaround to add these heists to the base game.
I dont think anyone blames you personally, its not like you have any say in marketing decisions
I know, it's mostly been the phrasing. I don't take it as personal attacks obviously, but it's been the overall hostility.

Basically exactly what I do here, but also on Steam and Reddit. Community interaction, answering questions, feedback and suggestions and so forth. I'll mostly be taking in feedback on trailers and promotional material. More info will come when the announcement is made though.
You have to supply your own computer for that tournament?

It's Dreamhack, the biggest LAN-party in Scandinavia (and Europe?), so not having a computer with you kind of defeats the purpose. :v:

Yeah this. I did some nav-links for the enemies and one first-person animation for the Hotline Miami bat which I gave to another animator to finish up. In-game stuff is not my forté. :vs:

Not at all. But dev tools are never easy to just release. Our in-house tools are made for us as of now. For a public release there'd need to be some serious reworking.
I dunno what that entails though, I've looked at the coders monitors and I curl up in a ball and cry from all the text.
I wish player controlled characters start using "This is robbery" lines in First World Bank.

So what you are using in-house would currently be extremely user unfriendly?
after stealthing alesso and golden grin on DW, I call a small hiatus on stealth for a bit

You can if you use PocoRose, use it at your own risk though, people get kicked for spamming. :v:
