Man the AI in this is pretty tough. Even on easy I have trouble keeping up.
I remember in the last game we modded in fire mechanics of some kind, should mod em to this as well
Does liquid armor flow to other armors? Thinking of making a hammerhead design with neutronium armor peppered with liquid armor to absorb more blows.
Liquid armor flows only with liquid armor.
Any idea why my research rate is only floating above 3? I've been building a bunch of Research Complexes and importing Phasite/research resources, and it wont go any higher.
Also, trying to figure out how civ buildings upgrade themselves.
I'm guessing you've got a Zeitgeist effect going on which is limiting the amount of production.
That, or you've researched a whole bunch. As you gain research points, it'll slowly become harder and harder to make additional research points.
Civilian buildings don't really 'upgrade'. They get overpressured, which results in a normal pressure building being swapped out for an inefficient variant to try and use all the pressure you're giving the planet. To avoid being overpressured - don't import more pressure than the planet has pressure capacitance for.
A L1 building might be 1 Pressure -> 1 Generation.
A L2 building might be 2 Pressure -> 1 Generation.
So at current projections, we'll have enough money to make our planned expansion - and then we'll have to close down the studio as it'll just be too risky to pursue another project. That projection lands us some time in October-December we think. If you like the game, let folks know: write some reviews on Steam/GOG/GamersGate, shoot e-mails to your favorite news sources and let's players! Your opinions matter!
Show folks there is room in the 4x corner for a game that dares to break away from the MoO/Civ formula.
In upcoming stuffs for the game: We're hoping to launch an expansion and a free DLC later this year even if the game continues its current sales trend. Work on the next free patch continues and we're expecting to do an overhaul of the sounds, making flagship weapons fire more divisible from support weapons fire, and a potential reiteration on reactive armor amongst other changes.
Scott Manley spends the first minute and a half explaining beer opening dynamics.

By the end he just has single, huge ships with 41million hitpoints.
I would like to know how much $ the devs needs to continue and not close studio ?
can't they run paypal campaign or something on theirs website ?
give us set of goals, explain the situation ...
I think Star Ruler 1 was quite 'special'
(had no time to buy Star Ruler 2 yet, same as Star Drive 2 and Galactic Civilizations 3 cause no time to play yet)
Has Scott's video caused a boost in sales, even if temporary?

Yes, his video brought in a considerable boost in sales, with what seems to be smaller lasting effect as well.
I'm very confused on how to level up a planet as the mono. I have a level 0 planet and it says all I need to get it to level 1 is 2+ population, but it's not doing anything even with 3.
Edit: I see now that level 0 planets cannot level up to 1 with the mono, you have to terraform them first.
New patch is out. Among the changes is our entirely revised research web, built from the shins up to address reported problems with its play and readability, the reintroduction of personality and foundation traits, and more!

nice work on that patch
Star Ruler 2 has a major discount on GoG
Thinking about getting it, although I don't know if I will be able to get into the game. The first game was amazing but I was always quite atrocious at it.
Heads up for those who might've missed it: Star Ruler 2 is currently 50% off in the present Steam Flash Sale ($12.49). If you've been waiting for the price to drop to buy in, now's the time. The flash sale will cycle to a new set roughly five and a half hours from the time of this post.
I just played my first game, it was quite a blast. Lasted three hours and I kind of got a hang of the game. The resource system gets a tad overwhelming if you don't plan ahead, it was a bit chaotic.
I got it on the sale ... hopefully find time to play it soon
I finished my second game in multiplayer and it went quite better, the economic resource planet mechanic is definitely quite unique and addictive. It's just pretty satisfying to have a complex trading system among your stars.
I also build a custom ship that was absolutely huge, it took me so many budgets actually to finance it but it was almost invincible.
I'll have to wait till this comes back on sale again and then I'll buy it. I loved the first Star Ruler but found it frustrating that I'd spend time building a big fleet of ships only for them to be hideously out of date when actually needed. It appears that isn't as big of a deal here which is a selling point to me.

Almost invincible? Clearly, it wasn't big enough.
I'm still trying to get a feel for the game and playing against the AI. This time I felt like it did very good and we put the enemy on hard. Needless to say after a while he started colonizing everything, even the shitty planets that I left out in my systems. I tried using diplomatic cards which is just such an awesome design of this game, super compelling and unique but to no avail. At some point he declared war on me. I got my nice fleets with about 6k to 15k strength and he turned up with 450k+ fleets at my planets, totally annihilating my friend and I.
Great game, love the unique mechanics.

We'll soon be announcing the release date of the expansion, along with all its tasty new features and its very affordable price. Keep your eyes on the thread.
great, good luck, awaiting more news; )
Sweet, been waiting for this.
Oh god the hype. This game is so good, it's a mega shame it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves.

Well everything's set up now for us to talk about the specifics of the expansion [release date, features, etc].
We're just waiting on Valve to approve the DLC's storepage before we really get into it.
Will probably be sometime tomorrow(?) - assuming there's no problems Valve has with the page and whatnot.
Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh, my money is ready
Good morning, star rulers. This is about the time people should be settling in to work over at Valve corp. and we're just waiting on approval for our expansion's storepage before we start our gambit of information for all y'all.
For the time being, I'm afraid all I can offer is teasers.

In the meantime, a quick survey: How many of you have played the original Star Ruler?
