Ah I was wondering where this thread went.
Avacyn img Yep, I got her. Ohmygodwhatthefuckhow, I still do not know. Pairing her with: hexproof combo img ...is pretty much a massive Fuck You to the opponent. Pretty much the only thing I can think of to get rid of Avacyn in a setup like that, would be to clone her (Legendary rule). I'm quite positive that there are also other stuff from older mechanics that can bypass the indestructibility and hexproof, but I can't think of much now. Poison counters?
Exiling without *target*? Ex. Exile all creatures. (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=247523) Anyone else going to the prerelease next week? Also, our local store is doing an extra event since he got his hands on some guild boosters. I'm wondering if it's worth it though, what are your thoughts? (He said we'd play with 3 guild boosters and 2 dragon's maze boosters, and it costs 22 euro to participate)
Bought 2 2013 boosters, got her. My first planeswalker!
good card doesnt beat karn liberated or vareeska the unseen
karn liberated and vareeska can't handle Also who cares, every card can get countered in a way.
Even a turn one win hand with infect can get stopped by some 0 cost or phyrexian instants.
Who's your favourite guild champion?
Who's your favourite guild champion?
I like [sp]Mirko[/sp] a lot. I've heard lots of people say he's terrible, but I honestly think that he seems really fun to play with. Only thing I really dislike is his mana cost maybe being just one too high. Tajic is also really cool. Definitely going into my Boros deck.
Varolz. I was so disappointed by the Gruul champion.
I like Vorel because I like Simic and it's a great card for simic. 3 cmc, and then 2 mana to double counters on a permanent.
Varolz. I was so disappointed by the Gruul champion.
I actually like Ruric Thaar. He's the bombiest of bombs when it comes to limited. My personal favourite though is probably Exava. Man, am I going to have some fun with her! She's going into my Rakdos Aggro deck.
Melek has to be mine, I am definitely building an EDH deck around him. And Mirko has been an instant include in my mill deck.
I want to do cool things with varolz, the scavenge thing seems pretty breakable
I feel like in standard that anything relying on creatures lasting more than a turn or using the graveyard is too easily stopped. The only decks I've seen doing well are those which don't use either of those. Also, decks that make creatures all the time, to include when their current ones die. Damned Thragtusk and Huntmaster of the Fells.
One of the very first decks I've ever played against was a UG snake deck and I fell in love with it the first time I got Mystic Snaked. Now I've decided to make my own snake deck. What do you guys think of what I have so far? 4 Coiling Oracle 4 Patagia Viper 4 Mystic Snake 4 Lorescale Coatl 4 Noble Hierarch 4 Seshiro the Anointed 4 Snakeform 4 Into the Roil 4 Favor of the Overbeing 2 Snake Umbra Which leaves room for 22 lands, of which 8 will probably be UG duals, maybe a Rogue's Passage, then islands and forests. I'm also going to need some help with my sideboard.
Needs some evasion in my opinion. Otherwise, you're going to have a bunch of tiny snakes who can't penetrate your opponent's defenses.
Needs some evasion in my opinion. Otherwise, you're going to have a bunch of tiny snakes who can't penetrate your opponent's defenses.
Well I already have Rogue's Passage and Favor of the Overbeing to help get past blockers and Into the Roil to clear blockers. What else do you suggest?
Quite frankly, I don't really know. I don't think snakes are a powerful enough tribe to be viable.
Card advantage is a pretty powerful thing. Mixed with counter spells and your golden.

But there's so many good cards that exile things from the grave!
Reanimator decks have been slaying things lately. Junk Rites pewpew
Not to mention that U/W/x Flash/Tempo is and always will be a thing.
But there's so many good cards that exile things from the grave!
...Except those are almost always sideboard cards meaning you have a fantastic game 1 and if they're in color for graveyard hate you can pack in sideboard cards of your own to deal with it.
So I forgot to go to Magic last week because of the Boston shit so I went tonight and...actually did pretty well. It was a booster draft with Gatecrash and my first pack had a Consuming Aberration. Nothing actually came together after that, besides keeping in my colors and getting some cheap fliers, until I got three Psychic Strikes and three Paranoid Delusions. Comebine with two Balustrade Spies I was milling the shit out of the guy in my first match and won 2-1. Second match I got destroyed though. They were playing some White/Green/Red combo that came out swinging hard with cheap ass creeps with Battalion. It was not fun. Third match was amazing though. I lost 2-0 but both matches were so fucking close. I had my Aberration out at 12/12 with two 1/1's and a 1/2 flyer and he had a single 1/2 flyer with some spell Ciphered to it that dealt three damage to life and then could deal 1 damage to life when you cast a spell, so it technically swung for 5. I had a 0/1 POS out to block it though and, in a great play, he played a Smog Elemental and killed my 0/1 and won. Second match was more just beating on each other but I kept milling him down. Eventually he won, but he won with four cards left in his deck. Both games were crazy close and I don't feel bad about losing them. I'm going to pre-release tomorrow night and I might go to a Two-Headed Ogre tourny on Sunday. :v:
Quite frankly, I don't really know. I don't think snakes are a powerful enough tribe to be viable.
Clearly you have never spent 5 turns building up an army of 1/1 snakes with Sosuke's Summons and Patagia Viper then dropped Seshiro and swung. I don't know why I like snakes so much. There's just something about playing turn 1 Noble Hierarch into turn 2 Coiling Oracle, putting a land onto the field with his ability then equipping a Favor of the Overbeing on it. A Serra's Avenger that you can cast on the second turn is pretty cool.
How did everyone's pre-release go? Any good combos or snazzy pulls?
How did everyone's pre-release go? Any good combos or snazzy pulls?
I did quite well for my first event, picked up a Boroz/Azorius pack, landslide won a game by putting out a Boros Elite, Boros Mastiff, 2 Viashino Firstblades and a Skyknight Legionnaire one after another from turn one. Gotta love that haste. My second event went not quite as well, got an Azorius/Dimir pack, and got some utter shit cards for it, barely a dozen creatures across all 90 cards and the rest were terrible situational cards I could never pull off, the only nice card I got was an Exava, the Rakdos Legendary Creature. I just forfeited after my first round. Our group is nice and just records them as free wins for your opponent. Kind of disappointing though, after I lost my job, I was pretty much hoping I'd get the cards I want from the prerelease and wouldn't have to buy booster, but I guess I'll be skipping Dragon's Maze. Naturally the guy next to be pulled a foil Tajic, the Boros Legendary, which is the one card I really wanted to get. We're bros though, and I was feeling kind of down, so I gave him the Master of Cruelties I pulled so I could feel better about things.
I pulled a Ral Zarek :D Other than that my pulls were pretty bad, but I did manage to get 2 extra boosters from the event. (1 By a random giveaway of spare boosters, and one for winning a round). Won 2/5 rounds, and placed 26th of 48.
My pulls were terrible. Though I did get two Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch's.
I got the worst fucking pulls. Azorius/ Orzhov - Alms beast and rightous althority. Then 3 dual Fuse cards in red/green and the mill ledgendary dimir guildleader. Needless to say I placed last, have never had a pre-release as bad as this one.
I hate sealed deck.
I missed the pre-release this time. Can't say that I'm that bothered to be honest. Don't get me wrong! I'm really excited for this set. I just find the atmosphere a bit depressing. We only have one LGS for an area as big as Delaware (with ~250k inhabitants) and that place isn't even a store. It is one guy who travel 110km to a place that he borrows in our town just for the pre-releases. I mean, I feel bad because I sorta feel disrespectful to his dedication. But it is hard to keep a community together without anything permanent; without a place just to pop in and buy some boosters, do some trading, and just play for fun.
Ok I want a half decent deck box. that can hold 3 or so decks, maybe 300-400 card w/ sleeves would be good, but I don't want the ones that use Velcro. Below is a Deck Builder's Toolkit box, which is the kind of box I want; I like the cardboard that slides into the box to close it. those are really hard to find empty and are particularly ugly, and the only other box(es) that do that I know of are the limited edition boxes from Scars of Mirrodin. Anyone care to suggest me a good box that fits my needs? [img_thumb]http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/3158/magicdeckbuilder27stool.jpg[/img_thumb]
