I'm playing two headed giant tomorrow, looking forward to it. I'll be playing jeskai and he'll be going sultai.
How did pre-release turn out for you guys?
My LGS was all out of Abzan, Mardu and Temur so I had to play Jeskai
It's an incredibly fun clan to play because of all the combat tricks and mindgames but it is probably one of the worst clans to play in limited since the Prowess mechanic requires you to build around it, and if your pool doesn't have enough non-creature spells (like mine did) then all your cards become dead weight.
My first two games were very close but I lost them both because I make some insane misplays when nervous. After that I got a Bye and for my last game my opponent dropped so I went 2-2 without winning a single game.
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
It's such an incredibly slow format, I thought people were exaggerating when they said that KoT was going to be slow but all my games lasted for the entire 50 minute time limit
Prerelease was fun, I went Sultai and went 2-1-1 and beat a professional too, so that is a plus. The format is really slow, but if you can make an aggro deck they seem to be the only things I lost to.
Also pulled a foil fetch, so I'm very happy
42 Land
16 Forest
14 Island
4 Ghost Quarter
4 Dakmor Salvage
4 Evolving Wilds
4 Creatures
4 Hedron Crab
14 Spells
4 Explore
4 Worm Harvest
4 Treasure Hunt
2 Harrow

I put together the whackiest modern deck I've ever seen.
Basically just mill yourself with hedron crabs and ramp until you get a worm harvest in your graveyard, then drop 5+ worms a turn until you win.
Give it a shot, it's actually pretty hilarious. (It's too slow to fight off competitive modern decks though, sadly)
I'm looking for an alternate wincon post-sideboard, because stuff like grafdiggers cage and assorted graveyard hate trashes the deck completely.
Tied for first with Jeskai. Sarkhan in prize packs. Good times.
Last night, 3 friends and I went and got some KtK, and decided we'd make our own little booster draft tournament. I won against every person I played! First pack I opened had a BR fetchland so I decided to make a "Mardu" deck for the draft. It ended up being pretty kick-ass compared to my friends' decks. In one match against one of them, we were both at 4 life points and board full of creatures. With only 3 cards remaining in each deck, I remembered that since I had Brave the Sands, I could attack with everything and still be able to block. So I did, and we both lost most of our creatures except 3 or 4. Then he goes to attack and I can block just enough of his to make it passed his defenses on my turn and win the match.
I have to say booster draft is my favorite way to play right now, even if we didn't do prizes or anything (I had one unopened booster pack left that I was planning on giving to the winner, though). Next time, we all agreed to buy a few extra packs, since we supply ourselves, to offer as prizes.
Played some EDH tonight, and picked up the Bant Commander Deck. I'm very excited about it, I'll post a card list later in the week when I finish building it.
So my cousin who's been playing for years taught me how to play this cos I wanted to get into a card game and gave me like, 3 boxes of assorted cards he gathered over the years. Really loving this game, and I'm gunna go see him compete in the Grand Prix in Orlando this weekend. If anyone here is going, I'd love to meet ya. Always fun to meet people from online at events like this.
The Gameday is coming up this week, what are you guys going to be playing?
I'm going to play my gimmicky Daring Thief deck because I'm too cheap to invest in a good manabase or a good monocolored deck (rabble red)
Basically:
[t]http://www.mtg-forum.de/db/picture_new.php?card=Daring+Thief&set=JOU[/t] + [t]http://www.mtg-forum.de/db/picture_new.php?card=Triton+Tactics&set=THS[/t] + [t]http://www.mtg-forum.de/db/picture_new.php?card=Voyage's+End&set=THS[/t] = Thank you for that polukranos
Not gonna win anything but it'll be fun
Thoughts on fate reforged?
Personally, I'm pretty hyped about the possibilities of Ugin coming back as another colorless planeswalker.
I'm looking forward to it but there's no spoilers out yet so we can't really comment about it...
The new commander decks are bitching though, new tech for my artifact EDHs all round, the red one is amazing.

The red deck is great, I'm running Feldon as my commander and recasting cards like Bogardan Hellkite every turn after turn 2 is just nasty
Feldon went into my jor kadeen deck where he'll be reanimating such fun family cards as wormcoil engine, darksteel colossus, junk diver, myr battlesphere, precursor golem and others.
Daretti went in my arcbound EDH.
Funfact, sacrificing an arcbound creature, putting it's counters on another arcbound and then returning the original arcbound (or something better) to the field is quite rewarding. Daretti is a boss.

I got some bad news for you
I got some bad news for you
Sorry, I'm tired, that's the second time this week I've made that mistake.
I shuffle my colossus in correctly, don't worry. I goblin welder'd out a darksteel forge the other day but my brain refuses to recall it correctly so I keep thinking I've been cheating colossi into play.
[sp]and yes i know you can't feldon a forge out, I've been up 32 hours cut me slack[/sp]
The meanest feldon card I found so far is Bearer of The Heavens
It's an apocalypse on a 10/10 stick
Yeah but that kills feydon, I like stuff where you get permanent advantage from it, wurmcoil is pretty gross, myr battlesphere is fun in my jor deck since it turns on metalcraft with the tokens alone (and also swings for lots)
ETB and dies triggers are also great, spawning and then saccing a solemn simulacrum is ridiculous, draw a card, get a land, repeat until you are winning.
Personally, I think Ob-Nixilis is da shit.
But then the white commanders are great in voltron.
So I went to my first draft session earlier today.
Since I only played Magic once before, I was expecting it to kinda suck, but it went slightly worse at first then got a little better towards the end.
I didn't know anybody there apart from one person in my class, but they didn't speak to me much. I'm at the table with a guy explaining to me how the draft actually worked. I remember him saying "remove the tokens and lands from each pack, take a card and then pass the deck along". But he didn't specifically mention that the lands I had to discard were basic lands. So I was removing the basics, foils and all the others. It wasn't until halfway through the second pack that someone mentioned his cards were short. I then brought up that it was probably my fault since I just noticed everyone was discarding basic lands. One guy got extremely pissed off at me. In my defense, I asked him why he didn't mention earlier why his cards were short. He got even more pissy, so I dropped it.
Eventually, I start playing. The first guy wasn't very tolerant. He was clearly experienced but didn't give me any guidance, so I made plenty of mistakes throughout. I lost pretty quick. I then stopped because I felt everyone was being too competitive. I sat alone and read comics like a weirdo for about an hour before I asked someone if they wanted to play.
This guy was okay. Gave me plenty of advice and I was close to actually beating him. At the end I got a couple of rares to keep and the rest of the deck I unpacked. I'll definitely go back but I need to grasp the rules of the game a bit better.

sorry your first experience wasn't the best :/
i've been to some LGSs that are just really shitty, with lots of elitists and people who don't like dealing with newcomers, and it's a shame how it can turn some people off from the game.
hopefully your next visit will be better (seems like it will be, some people just seemed a bit peeved from the card issue with the draft) but if not I'd highly recommend finding another place in/near your town. if the people there treat you like crap then don't give them your business.
Bought Duel of the Planeswalkers 2014 Gold on the Steam sale. Fuck me what a disappointment.
There's nothing objectively wrong with the game, but it's a really constricted way of playing Magic. Pre-set decks that can only be customized with pre-determined cards means you can't create a deck that's truly unique. After a few hours, you'll be seeing the same cards over and over and it doesn't change the games strategy at all.
Sid Meiers Magic: The Gathering was better.

WotC can't really do anything right outside of paper Magic, with MTGO, DotP, and Gatherer being prime examples. Huge shame, I'd love to get into MTGO, but reading many reviews and experiences people have had with the client, it's a huge put off
Shandalar is a pretty cool Magic game (albeit it's the very old Magic, like Arabian Nights-era)
Second draft over. Got fucking destroyed in every game I played, some of which by new players who claimed they hadn't played in a draft before, which was embarassing.
Although, the guys in the advanced table said they would give their leftover rares to whoever came last (me), so I did get some neat additions to my own deck.

Lethal if you count phenax himself
Just got four Sliver Hives and a Sliver Overlord for my Rainbow deck of Sliver Pain. Hoooly shit they're good, I don't play much magic outside of my circle of friends who play, but my this deck hasn't lost a single game yet :v:.
Do any of you guys use pucatrade(referral link because I'm a scumbag, normal link here)?
It's a trading site where instead of using cash you spend "points" (1 point = 1 cent) on buying cards and get points by sending cards out. It's pretty neat and you get ~$5 credit for just signing up and setting up your account. I got my Balefire Dragon with the initial cash and I'm annihilating my friends using it in EDH
Just got a Chromanticore from a pack. What to do?
Just got a Chromanticore from a pack. What to do?
Keep it, with that new soulflayer card coming out it might be pretty silly
Thanks, many bums will be destroyed in the future.
Anyways, what do you guys think are good replacements for Tormented Hero? I've been hunting for good one drops in my Mardu deck and I already have 1 Bloodsoaked Champion and 2 Rakdos Cacklers.
