If you have tons of cheap spells to extort then Tithe Drinker may be better, otherwise I like Ajani's Pridemate more since it can grow big extremely fast
Is Ajani's Pridemate better or Tithe Drinker better for my deck? I'm running BR lifegain devotion.
Pridesmate is better because it has better stats, it grows for as long as you gain life and its easier to cast (BW vs 1W is a huge difference)
So, anyone play the prerelease this weekend? I've never done one before and picked Abzan, ended up coming fourth out of twelve players, bolster is such a fun mechanic, ended up getting a 1/1 flier up to a 16/16 creature in one of my games :v:

I picked Jeskai, lost everything, but had fun
I don't know why but I suck at limited formats. I get really nervous and make tons of dumb misplays that I never make when playing constructed (Like not holding up mana for a counterspell when I need it)
Still, my LGS is pretty awesome so they gave away a couple of packs on top of the prize and I got a Keranos out of it so I can't complain
I picked Sultai, but I didn't actually get to play because my dad wanted to watch football, and he drove me there. Still, I signed my name at #28 out of only 20 boxes. So few people actually showed up to get theirs, I had no problem getting mine and there were still a few left afterwards, too.
I really do want to play at a prerelease, but I get super nervous and usually pass down the opportunity. The one time I decide to go and I can't play, of course. I suppose I'll work up the courage to go to the next one :v:

You can always go to the release, it's basically the same thing
With the little boxes, too? I'm guessing not, but I think I'll try and go to that then.
I really wanted to go to the pre-release/release, but I have exams for the next three weeks.
My chances of getting an Ugin without paying exclusively for it are pretty low now.
I don't even know how to run those things. I'll stick with. Rakdos, Silic, & Dimir for my Dubs
So after placing dead last in the two small tournaments at the pre-release i got two boosters as a thanks for playing.
opened them and got these:

Life is complete.
Where do you live
Are.. Are you going to kill me?

My friend went 2-3 and got an Ugin and a fetchland from his sole prize pack
I'm still pretty salty about that

Would you say this is worth ~$65? I'm being fancy and getting foil lands because I'm a rich kid so feel free to ignore $10 of that. I've been using like, slightly modified prebuilt decks up until now.
So apparently there is a printing error in Fate and some boxes may have a fetchland in every pack

Phyrexian Unlife seems like an odd-one out with no way to get rid of infect counters
Phyrexian Unlife seems like an odd-one out with no way to get rid of infect counters
My thought was it was like a free 20 life practically, because I can heal up past 0 health again if I ever drop below.
So, after a decently long break in playing in standard FNM at my LGS (last time I played there was when Theros was brand new :v:), I've been getting back into Magic through the Fate Reforged & Khans stuff, and have even made a standard deck with what I had. While its not the best, I figured I'd ask here, will I be able to do decently with http://www.mtgvault.com/schwankalicious/decks/abzan-fnm-deck/ ? I do intend on improving it, I'd like some general advice on where to go from here with this deck before just buying more singles.
ok i never played magic in my life but i will play your pretty card game. i will play this jazz... ONLY, IF ONLY, i can make some sort of viable deck focusing on this:

lets make this shit work
Holy shit, it happened, I won my first Friday Night Magic, and in celebration, bought a fat pack of Fate Reforged

In the words of the warrior poet Ice Cube, today was a good day.

And I'm just sitting here with 2 Rally the Ancestors. Any combos with that card?

cheap creatures with ETB or abilities you can activate for cheap (like sacrifice this creature: do shit)
honestly it's a pretty shitty mythic, it's really hard to build around.
So, with my Ugin, and a few late birthday gifts from some friends, I have made my best EDH deck thus far, Grixis Dragons, with Bolas as my commander and Bolas, Ugin, and a Foil Jace the Mind Sculptor as my go-to planeswalkers. (because Bolas & Ugin, BFFs forever, and the Jace was a gift, I had to use it some how :v:).
Won my first EDH tourney at my LGS with it, someone pulled out a Polukranos and monstrosity'd it up to 21/21, I used Bolas's -2 to steal it, then kicked right of replication to make 5 copies of it. Due to my policy of always holding on to one counter spell of some kind for when shit hits the fan, and I managed to stop a Day of Judgement, before utterly destroying everyone.
Forgive me if I'm being dense, but wouldn't you have to choose one Polukranos and discard the rest because of legendary rule, or does that not apply to tokens?

You discard them at the end of your turn (at least that's how we understood it, and agreed upon), but I gave them haste and managed to kill all three of my opponents in one combat phase anyways :v:
Legend rule goes off instantly as soon as you have two of the same legend
Also the copies wouldn't have any +1/+1 counters so they'd just be 5/5s

Well, considering we play Commander casually, I've messaged them and we've made note of it, but none of us are rules nazis, so even if someone knew, they'd just roll with it because that ending was hilarious :v:
Won 2 matches in a draft.

I have a question regarding Setessan Tactics as a combat trick. Say my creatures have vigilance, and I declare my attackers. Can I activate Setessan Tactics and have my attacking creatures tap and fight the opponent's creatures such that they are killed before they get to block and my attacking creatures still deal combat damage?

Since the cost to activate the fighting is tapping, you can't attack and force an opponent's creatures to fight your creatures unless you have an untapping ability of sorts. You can only choose one or the other.
