Ok I want a half decent deck box. that can hold 3 or so decks, maybe 300-400 card w/ sleeves would be good, but I don't want the ones that use Velcro. Below is a Deck Builder's Toolkit box, which is the kind of box I want; I like the cardboard that slides into the box to close it. those are really hard to find empty and are particularly ugly, and the only other box(es) that do that I know of are the limited edition boxes from Scars of Mirrodin.
Anyone care to suggest me a good box that fits my needs?

My Holiday Gift box holds a whole bunch of decks, but I'm not sure if you can still get them.

Pulled another 2, time to build a timetravel deck.
I missed the pre-release this time. Can't say that I'm that bothered to be honest. Don't get me wrong! I'm really excited for this set. I just find the atmosphere a bit depressing. We only have one LGS for an area as big as Delaware (with ~250k inhabitants) and that place isn't even a store. It is one guy who travel 110km to a place that he borrows in our town just for the pre-releases. I mean, I feel bad because I sorta feel disrespectful to his dedication. But it is hard to keep a community together without anything permanent; without a place just to pop in and buy some boosters, do some trading, and just play for fun.
Our town was pretty lucky, we had nothing, just a couple little groups playing games here and there, and through a stroke of good luck, an employee at a local video rental store asked his manager if they could have some cards ordered in. The manager is pretty awesome and ordered in a couple thousands worth of cards on a whim, and sold them to us, and set up an event for the Gatecrash release, since then we've had more and more people pouring in, and all the little groups have come together, our town is about 15k inhabitants, and pretty far out, so it's been a massive surprise that we're up to over 50 regular players now. Groups just need to catch a break, and have one proper event to bring them together, I hold faith that you guys will have your perfect spot soon.
What site do you guys recommend for buying singles? I know starcity tends to be overpriced but thats the only one I really know of. Living in the US, by the way.

Some mates and I did a big order from Channel Fireball recently, one of the other guys buying hundreds worth of stuff footed the postage, so I don't know what that is, but they seem pretty nice.

Thanks bud. I wanted to start a store myself, but I got into college instead.

Me and my friends usually buy from mtgmintcard.com. Last time we ordered it was on a sunday and we had the cards on wednesday. They sent from Hong Kong to Sweden in like 3 days.
Pulled a foil Ral Zarek =D

Tcgplayer.com is really good. It helps you get stuff for cheap if you don't mind having multiple packages.

I'm happy for the new tribal stuff, tribal decks are always my favourite in modern.
What are people's thoughts on Modern Masters? Anything you will try and get your hands on?
Wait is that the new set? I've stopped following things right before Gatecrash.
They are making a (non-standard) set to breathe further life into Modern. It contains a lot of Modern staples, but the only cards we know for sure are Tarmogoyf and City of Brass. The set is very limited and will be pretty expensive. A box contains only 24 packs. But the basic land is switched for a random foil instead (yes, that means a foil in every pack).
I'd love, LOVE, to see a cheap Tarmogoyf. Oh my god.
This is the new art.

It will be a mythic, so it won't be that many new ones in circulation. Not a clue what will happen with the price. But pulling a foiled one will probably ensure you an early retirement.
I assume it won't be $100, like the existing one. I hope?
We don't know for sure. Hoping it will drop at least a bit.
Well, it can't be more than the existing Tarmogoyf, I would assume. Maybe the foil one is equal, but if the new Tarmogoyf goes for ~30/40, it'd be manageable. But, so many times I wanted to make a deck with the card, and I couldn't. I can't justify spending on one card what you might spend on an entire (non-standard) deck.
The idea of a $30-$40 goyf excites me.

Am I just stupid or is that card awful on its own? Needs to be combined with something that stops lifeloss, right?
Nope, in a format like modern where everything costs 3 or less it's amazing.
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
At two mana it's insane card advantage and even if he does get removed, that means they wasted their removal on a 2 cost 2/1
This is a deck I brewed up about 2 days ago. It mostly plays as a lifegain/bleed deck, but also does stuff with Immortal Servitude to bring back creatures to sac for Blood Artist or Bloodthrone Vampire.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-extortion-racket/
Any thoughts or suggestions? This is my first deck that isn't aggro, so I'm not too sure on how it'll work.
I like a deck that isn't aggro! And currently legal to boot!
You're using a lot of white on expensive things that only give you more extort. This works at giving you extort, but doesn't work any other life mechanic angles. If you're going to include white in the deck, I'd recommend having it for more than just extortion effects.
Extort is a pretty mana heavy thing, and your deck is built out of it. Apart from Crypt Ghast, you don't really have any mana gaining things.
Something I like about it is your sacking creatures along with your blood artist. That both heals you, gives you utility, and hurts your enemy.
If you really want to keep white, definitely check out Vizkopa Guildmage. A cheap card with amazing abilities for the life gaining abilities you have. Along with Exquisite Blood, you could set up an infinite loop to kill your opponent provided you can deal 1 damage and have 3 mana handy. Also: Tithe Drinker and High Priest of Penance may work for you. White creatures that deal with tokens tend to be cheap too.
If you don't have to have white, consider throwing in other colors, or going mono-black. A mono-black deck really benefits from your Crypt Ghast. A spell with "X" in the name could become devastating with one of those out mid-game. Your extortion element would come out more with that as well. You could also go with red, for disposable cheap creatures with haste. Green could give you really big fat creatures, and you could sack them with Disciple of Griselbrand. If you're feeling blue (doh hoh hoh), you can look into lifegain/steal from deck milling.
Hope that helps you out.
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
Oh, try out Undying too since you have the guy that can knock out counters. May work well.
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
Pontiff of Blight will give you some more extort too.

this is huge.
Bye bye landfall deck, I'll no longer be able to buff you playing 3 lands on the same turn.
Because it says you won't be able to play additional cards using spells, right? Or am I wrong?
You can but not if it says *play the card*. In that case it counts as actually playing the land card as normal which you normally can do only once per turn. (It says, by default, you only have 1 land play)
Cards like Kodama's Reach will still place the card on the field without it costing a land play. As do fetch lands.
You can still increase the amount of land cards you can play though, by spells such as Azusa, exploration, explore, fastbond and Gaea's Touch. (Top of my head)
Wow, thems some big changes.
Gonna be funny watching the people at the shop go fucking nuts over this. The kind of people who hate hexproof for being a "casual shroud"
How do you guys start making a deck? It probably sounds silly, but I'm still a scrub player and I don't know how to pick the right cards when making decks.
