How do you guys start making a deck? It probably sounds silly, but I'm still a scrub player and I don't know how to pick the right cards when making decks.
I still find it hard, so I look at websites that have decks premade. http://tappedout.net/ is great. I also like http://www.mtgtop8.com/ . And Daily MTG at http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/default.aspx
Pick a random mechanic and build around it.
Guys, I need some help. I pre-ordered 2 MM boxes and it cost me a ton. The goal is to bring them to our independent gaming association/club we have going and have a draft or sealed. Problem is that it cost me so damn much that I have trouble finding out what to do for prizes. Basically, going for non-profit, one pack is about $12, which means that a 3 booster draft is $36. Now, in our group there is a major chasm when it comes to skill between the players. If we were to redraft, a lot of people will certainly get a bit pissy because they will lose "cool cards". Especially now when it is so damn expensive. On the other hand, it is so damn expensive that it will be a hard time creating a prize pool, because that will turn up the cost even more.
Am I just stupid or is that card awful on its own? Needs to be combined with something that stops lifeloss, right?
It's massive card advantage for 2 mana. You put it in a deck where your highest CMC is 4 or 5, also black has a lot of lifelink to mitigate it, but the goal is just out-card your opponent and win before he hurts you too badly. Think of it this way, your opponent has 2 creatures, you have dark confidant. Your turn, you draw a doomblade and another doomblade, you kill his 2 creatures and take 2 life from confidant, then swing safely with your 2/1 Your life totals are even, but you have a creature on the board and he has none.
Remember many games are over in less than 10 turns. Taking even 7 damage to gain essentially a turn or two may be worth it.
Can I order like five packs from you if I can't get ahold of any?
Yeah sure.
actually, shipping from sweden to america might be a bit too costly
I'll weigh it and note the price, then I'll come back to you. I'm sure we can work something out.

Also when the place I draft at have drafts we put all the rares and foils up for prize picking after the game is over and everyone played their rounds, winner picks a card first, 2nd picks a card afterwards etc until all cards are taken. And fuck re-drafts if you use the same cards. If you sign up for a draft and you're bad at the game, though. Don't let the other people suffer.
I'll weigh it and note the price, then I'll come back to you. I'm sure we can work something out.
That would be really rad. I'm working on building a cube right now and most of those modern staples would probably be really useful in it. All this inputting is tedious as fuck. Anyways, it's nowhere near done, obviously, and it's not going to be a crazy power cube or anything. I want it to be huge and full of cards that encourage niche strategies, so there's plenty of variety and fun.

Legit MTG backs on the cards too, though the front is fragile so I keep them sleeved, he took the ink off the front of 3 foils and then printed these on top, how COOL are they?
(badass cards) My friend is a bro and helped me make these 3 proxy (foil!) cards for me EDH deck. Last night, I got to play EDH for the first time in a while... They weren't a fan of my Zedruu deck. We only had 4 people and they wanted to play 2HG, one of them using a Mimeoplasm deck and the other using Damia, my partner used a Riku deck but it didn't even matter. Now, story time. I had locked the Mimeoplasm deck with a Steel Golem and was just gaining life off of them and drawing when they suddenly pulled a board-wipe. This made me a little upset because the game was mine for the taking, I cast Thieves' Auction, for those of you who don't know, it basically just fucks up the entire game state. Their jimmies were thoroughly rustled by this. The next turn, I landed a Confusion in the Ranks. They played through two turns of swapping cards and after a good amount of confusion about ETB effects and choices, my partner actually got so pissed that he scooped. I could not stop laughing. To top it off, I used these tokens: Then we decided to play a few more games but they said I wasn't allowed to use Zedruu ever again. So I ran my Thrax mill deck and decked the Mimeoplasm player from the first game that had switched to his ~ultra pro tier 1~ Zur deck using Traumatize and then Mind Grind. It was a great night of magic... for me at least. Here's the Zedruu decklist for anyone that enjoys shenanigans: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/youre-welcome-2/
MM is just getting more and more insane.
Full Modern Masters spoiler is out. Holy shit this is going to be intense to draft. http://mythicspoiler.com/mdm/index.html
Which set is good to buy boosters for general cards? I got various packs, but the cards usually follow a theme (exalted, infect etc) so I didn't find much use for the cards.
Which set is good to buy boosters for general cards? Most of magic follows themes, that's just how the set designs works. If you want to just play casually, then you should go for Core sets or Return to Ravnica block packs as they have a lot of variety within them.

The only mechanic you have to worry about is Scry, and it already works well in pretty much all casual decks.
Who's your favourite guild champion?
I'd say Borborygmos, Ruric Thar, and Domri Rade are definitely nice. Man, this thread is so unpopular. I'm still relatively new, so I don't know if that exists. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline]
How do you guys start making a deck? Get cards that synergize with it.
After a simple search: Sliver queen (definitely close to the turbine) Sliversmith Brood Sliver That's all the cards that directly spawn sliver tokens.
I hate slivers so much...
I just realized that the m14 slivers only affect other slivers you control, as opposed to the normal convention for slivers to change the abilities of all slivers on the board.
I just realized that the m14 slivers only affect other slivers you control, as opposed to the normal convention for slivers to change the abilities of all slivers on the board.
And that's why they are even more powerful than before. Now, mirror matches against other sliver decks can become terribly one sided and Clone effects or Mind Control effects are no longer useful against sliver decks.
I hate Slivers because they're boring. Aggro decks in general, really.
Started playing a couple of days ago online with a few other Facepunchers and at this point I feel like I've seen every bullshit deck under the sun.
Started playing a couple of days ago online with a few other Facepunchers and at this point I feel like I've seen every bullshit deck under the sun.
My friend has a deck that wins during round one or two by making you draw 700+ cards. It's pretty horrible.
Can't decide whether to draft MM tomorrow or just play standard, I want to draft MM but I just printed off new tokens for Naya Humans...
I don't think I have seen a turn 1 win by the player not starting yet. Anybody?
I don't think I have seen a turn 1 win by the player not starting yet. Anybody?
Turn 0 wins are easy in Vintage/Legacy.
