A friend of mine completed it. Took him 19 hours. He says it was a really awesome game. Said he even shed a tear in the first ~30 mins.
Ugh, it bothers me so much that other people have already played :( [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] On another note, since the location I pre-ordered at (EB Games) isn't doing a midnight launch... Do you think it is worth my effort to phone over there and ask if I can get it the night before? Lol...
Can you ask him what he thinks of the review scores today?
I would also like to know this.
Good lord, so many tens. Get hyped.
PieClock may i add you on PSN for some The Last of Us multiplayer on release?
Sure. PSN name is Spydoor. I'll probably not be on multiplayer much saying I have crap internet and lag is a big problem for me.
After reading the "plot" section of the Wikipedia article, anyone can quickly (Im sure) figure out what's going on. Therefore, apart from having a seemingly obvious plot, I'm extremely curious as to what happens between the beginning and the end. EDIT: Duh, I didn't make myself clear. What I meant, is that, you figure out what role Ellie plays and why Joel went after her and why etc etc
Can you ask him what he thinks of the review scores today?
He said he personally would give it 9/10. He also played it on Easy. So I take it if you play it on Hard and take your time, explore everything etc. it can take quite a while to finish the game.
Good luck finding the survival edition. It's sold out at a few sites online here (Amazon at least) and reports are many Gamestop stores are out.
I just pre-ordered it with no problems from GameStop.

I'm definitely gonna be playing on whatever is the hardest difficulty & with listen mode off to maximize the hours.

I think it's kind of funny how similar The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite are, seeing as two of the major things are very similar. Those being their world, being dystopian and escaping from an oppressive government, and your companion, being a younger girl that follows you throughout but isn't a chore, and is not a romantic interest. Also fucking ridiculous critical acclaim.

i don't know to me this game looks super bland-o. i'll probably just make a bag of popcorn and watch a playthrough of it and call it a day since really it doesn't seem like nothing more than a glorified action movie. There's just something about it. With that being said, though, the hype and acclaim for it is really misleading for the same reasons regarding bioshock infinite. say if the game came out RIGHT NOW, it'd be long forgotten by september
Goddamn I wish this game was on the PC...
With that being said, though, the hype and acclaim for it is really misleading for the same reasons regarding bioshock infinite. say if the game came out RIGHT NOW, it'd be long forgotten by september
this dude has the whole world figured out. who will win the next election?

Care to elaborate? While it is a third person shooter, it seems like a breath of fresh air in many ways. No regenerating health limited ammunition easy to be killed Not another War shooter or emphasis on tacticool guns Zombies are overplayed, but from what we've heard they share the spotlight and are supposedly pretty scary, which is an approach not taken to often in Zombie games. Just curious is all. Every has different tastes, but to say the game looks bland is hard for me to conceive.
they're not zombies
they're not zombies
this. this. this.
they're not zombies
Oh come on they warrant the label - you're like the guy who calls people out for mispronouncing 'epitome' or something. I'm kind of bummed I missed out on getting a special edition - I didn't quite have the money at the time I wanted to pre-order the Joel Edition, and the next day I had the money, it was sold out everywhere in State pretty much, so looks like I'll be rolling with plebian edition now. I'll have a look on EBay or something to see if I can get a special edition, I feel this is a game I'm going to invest an awful lot in, so I kind of want to have the art books and crap to accompany it. Shit sucks man.
Oh come on they warrant the label - you're like the guy who calls people out for mispronouncing 'epitome' or something.
according to definition the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose. - doesn't apply, as the infected in last of us are not corpses, but rather living people mutated by fungus. a person whose behavior or responses are wooden, listless, or seemingly rote; automaton. - fits this description though, which is also a definition for zombie. it's not a pop culture/movie definition zombie, but it kind of is...but isn't.
They're not zombies because they're zombies with a yeast infection

The things you listed though were here already. It's more of a breath of familiar old air you like. I guess because it's AAA title it feels that way because we got pile of the same shit in recent years.
Though I wonder if it'll be like Bioshock Infinite, where it leaves a wonderful first and last impression but the more you play and dwell on it the more it turns into a "Eh, it was a pretty good game but slightly over valued".
People seem to see this effect as a bad thing, and I don't see why. Obviously it can seem a bit dissapointing once that impression fades, but I'd rather have a game which blinds me with brilliance and makes the first playthrough amazing, which then fades into a "very good, but some flaws" view, rather than the game feeling "very good, but some flaws" from the very start. Obviously this effect doesn't work well in games like Skyrim where it's designed for you to be able to pour hundreds of hours into it, but for a fairly linear story-based game that you may only play through once or twice, surely that first playthrough is whats really important? This does look great though, I may have to see if I can borrow a friends PS3 just to play this.

With all the samey shooters released, anything different developed by an AAA studio feels refreshing to me, even if it's a return to old. Still, there are elements I've seen in last of Us that excite me and seem new. Namely the convention that the enemy A.I is just as scared of dying as you are and will use everything to their advantage to overwhelm you. Normally A.I are just mindless meat bags who only exist to block your progress with walls of bullets. If every encounter plays as dramatically as that E3 stage demo, I'll be a happy man.
The footage looked too good to be true in the whole how everything flowed but glad it isn't though. I wasn't a great fan of Uncharted but I can appreciate the work ND put into them and it looks like they've kept it up for this game. just the standard edition will do me though. Don't wanna spend a great deal with all the upcoming releases.
Going to be buying this game, will post results.
i had the ending of this game spoiled to me because i was an idiot and went on /v/ :(
i had the ending of this game spoiled to me because i was an idiot and went on /v/ :(
as someone who doesn't have a playstation 3 but is extremely interested in this game, I'd love to know the ending obviously i'm dumb, wanting to know how an interesting looking game ends, seen as i'll never play it, so dumb
