Downloading the game, will probably get to play in the morning. I'm pretty fucking excited, hopefully I won't be disappointed :v:
In fairness, I think Last of Us is doing some graphical wizardy that's substantially better than Uncharted 3, even considering how superb that game looked. The soft-shadowing and global illumination (real and faked) in The Last of Us is genuinely some of the best I've ever seen. I'm really hoping that Naughty Dog ports their PS3 titles to PS4 at some point, given they're going to be using the same engine on both platforms.
Naughty Dog, Insomniac and the Devs that made Conker's Bad Fur Day all pulled off some technical wizadry with all their games. It's insane how much we took for granted. Ratchet and Clank for example looks fucking great even to this day (HD collection fucked up some of the particle effects though due to how complicated it was to make them).
They pretty much perfected the scary infected individual, those pictures of bugs and amphibians being taken over by a fungus terrified me and in this game it's even worse. I have to buy this game.
So the most i knew about this game was runners and clickers from gameplay videos where they first showed off infected and when i got to the [sp] high school[/sp] and saw the bloater i literally was like what the fucking shit is that, and when ellie said the same thing 2 seconds later it made me laugh
Did anyone else poop their pants a little when you heard a scary noise coming towards you and it turned out to be Ellie. I think I was in a house looking for supplies and I heard like a horrible breathing noise right next to me, I quickly went into sneak mode and turned around to see Ellie who just went "What? I'm trying to learn how to whistle".
Also Joel trying darts cracked me up.
Damn I'm just so sad it's over, such a brilliant story. What a ride.
[sp]I miss Ellie, goddamn bonding with fictional characters[/sp]
I really wish I hadn't come into this thread a few hours ago and read that when your spoiler tags were broken. You fixed it pretty quickly, though.
Still excited to grab this game and play it. I knew some Bioshock Infinite spoilers and still enjoyed the hell out of that game's story.
This game finally convinced me to go out and buy a PS3.
Yeah the framerate isn't great and seems to struggle to keep at 30 fps most of the time. My biggest issue with the game personally.
I really didn't experience any frame drops... odd
At times I just wanted to give Ellie a big hug, she's too damn adorable sometimes.
Do you think they'll release this game on the PS4 eventually?
I just beat the game on Hard mode. I'm looking at starting a new game plus and getting every collectible this time. There are tons of unlockables in the Bonus section of the pause menu / game menu. I want to unlock all of those, so I'm sure I'm going to be looking at a total of three or more playthroughs to achieve every single thing in the game aside from trophies.
I might check out the multiplayer soon, and then start a new game +.
My thoughts on the ending, as everybody has been either bitching about it or applauding it... Naughty Dog did it for a reason, the ending is good, and there is no reason for anybody to be upset. Does it leave a big cliffhanger? I don't really believe so. Is there room for a sequel? It would be nice, but I don't see it happening.
The game overall was a wonderful, terrifying ride filled with anxiety. It was intense. No game has made me feel like this in ages. I am super impressed with Naughty Dog this year, TLOU will win GOTY. Hands down.
Enjoy the game everybody, and please play it a few times! It's worth it!

The cutest part was when she finally whistled. She is such an adorable character.
What would happen if a clicker went out into the rain?
Everyone remember that part in the E3 2012 demo where Joel has the shotgun pointed at the hunter's face and he screams "DON'T!" before Joel blows him away? I like how that can actually happen in the game with almost any human character. You just have to beat them down to the point where you can press triangle to grab them, but instead draw a gun and they'll stay down and beg for mercy.
This fucking game.
Goddamn the AI in this game pisses me off by being so competent. All of my well laid plans go straight to shit because the AI actually does what I would expect a reasonably intelligent human being (or ruthless killing machine) to do. Nevermind how the AI changes its behavior every single time I restart an encounter.
Please note that I mean that as a compliment to the game, despite how aggravating it is to do the same encounter over and over until I beat it.
It's quite easy to pass by them. Just throw bottles to distract them and sneak past.
On this note, I thought that you -had- to engage the infected [sp]to be able to boost Ellie onto the bus at the end of the tunnel, so I spent thirty minutes figuring out how to kill them all, and then I finally did using near all of my supplies and bombs.[/sp]
Anyway, I played for 5 hours last night once the digital download finished, then from noon today until now, my god, it -was- a ride. A ride that will not be forgotten anytime soon by me. I played from [sp]where Tess dies until the credits rolled[/sp], the missed meals were worth it. The Last of Us is the first game I have enjoyed so much that I would play it near completely non-stop until the end since Heavy Rain.
I loved the whole thing, don't get me wrong, but character wise [sp]I'm just -a little- disappointed at Joel for how he decided to save Ellie and crush the chances of a cure for many years to come, or possibly forever. I dunno, it's probably just the part where he swears he is telling the truth about the fireflies when she asks, and he says 'I swear.' Also, did anyone notice how similar the part at the ending where you carry Ellie is pretty similar to the intro where you carry Sarah? [/sp] Oh my, such a spectacle of narrative.
Just bought the game after trading in a bunch of games.
Holy shit that intro/prologue.
[sp]That soldier was a cunt[/sp]
Ending spoilers;
[sp] Am I being paranoid, or does Ellie's bite look a lot worse worse when she's looking at her arm in the last level?
Her bite looked the same the entire game, with just those mildly discolored bubbly things, then at the end it had lots of red bumps and it looked bigger, like it was progressing.[/sp]
[editline]dork[/editline]
I also thought the intro/prologue was the most intense part of the game, for me at least. Maybe because I switched to Easy after getting out of the hotel.
-snip, this guy broke my automerge-
Fucking hell, now this is what I would call a triple A game. The sound design is amazing, especially with headphones. Also [sp]Joel is a god damn psychopath. At first in a cool way but now I'm not so sure anymore.[/sp]

[sp] Yeah, I noticed that as well. It looked progressed by some amount, not sure if it was meant to look like that or not, though. [/sp]

I half-way agree to that spoiler. [sp] Yet I suppose Ellie got close to Joel, and vice versa. My assumption is that Joel started seeing Ellie as perhaps some figure of his daughter, and since his real daughter was shot and killed, he can't emotionally handle her death to possibly find a cure. Perhaps he was just a bit out of it, but it also bargains the question of if what Marlene said to Joel before he killed her was true. You know, how Ellie would of wanted the surgery even if it meant her death; which could or could not be true. But say she didn't want to die to find a cure; albeit a bit selfish...wouldn't this make Joel look not as...loony? I suppose we'll never know, as the truth wasn't given to her in full afterwards. :U [/sp]

[Sp]Well he lost something he held dear long ago, survived 20 years of a harsh Zombie-ish outbreak, had to deal with an oppressive government during those 20 years, and at any moment he could lose more loved ones. He is a broken man who barely has anything to live for and a shit ton of people/infected want him dead. Sure he'd be psycopathic in normal situations, but I think if anyone was in the same situation you would lose all sense empathy/morals and kill to live.[/sp]
For those of you that think the ending [sp] should have taken another route, just remember all of those times you came across other humans in the game, and how they treat you. No vaccine will ever be able to fix that, the world will still be a really shitty place and everyone's lives would still be at risk from hunters. Joel should have told Ellie the truth of what happened about the cure and explained this to her.[/sp]
wow you can upgrade your guns.
dude... i think that this is truly the game i've been waiting for. i've been disappointed release after release of games not living up to anything. but this game is just knocking me on my ass. also it's rekindled the long dead flame in my.. black hole, pretty sure this isn't a heart, for gaming.
seriously for a while there i was really put off by gaming actually. it's been years since i've got a game that i've honestly been mystified at (with this game it's the small amounts of depth and in game character progression mixed with the environment and ai of zombie apoc). now i think about just any game and i want to play it.
my icy cold passion for games has had a bomb put under its ass. i just reinstalled swat 4 and splinter cell chaos theory... this game has put me in a frenzy for gaming. and i gotta say i miss being like this. for once in a long time i feel truly addicted to gaming again.
thank you naughty dog... i... love you.

[sp]Well she does say pretty clearly she was waiting to die at the end. To me it seems that she felt obliged to sacrifice herself for the people that died by her side. Survivor's guilt and all that. Joel's lie is necessary for her to get over that, the okay at the end implies it pretty clearly. She knows what he's saying probably isn't true, but she chooses to accept it. Guess there's some cognitive dissonance going on.[/sp]
[sp] I thought when you were playing as Ellie at the very end, listening to Joel was so sad. The way he was talking like nothing happened, but you as Ellie know he's completely full of it. It was almost like looking at a stranger in a sense. And the bastard never even sang for Ellie after she saved him I mean what a dick.[/sp]

Oh, I suppose I missed that completely, my bad.
[sp]i interpreted it more as ellie coming to the realization that she knew she was going to die in there and that joel would rather save her than possibly find a cure
also he was pretty fucked up after the rebar
also another thing is that the near-rape/fucked up shit that the cannibal did probably traumatised her[/sp]
[sp]Yeah that part really scarred her, she was very distant after that and Joel become the more talkative one trying to get her spirits up.[/sp]
This game was incredible, completely worthy of all the praise, one of the best games I have played.
Man, this game is downright cruel sometimes. Just failed a 30 minute encounter at the (really minor spoiler) [sp]library in Pittsburg.[/sp] I was down to the last guy (the bastard with the shotgun guarding the exit), when I tossed a bottle to distract him but he turned to face me instead, shouting, and suddenly I get killed by 6 guys who weren't there a minute ago.
I think I'm going to take a break for a few hours.
Also Joel kicked that guy right in the dick. Survival of the fittest.
just finished it, intense gameplay, fantastic visuals and great pretty much everything else. ND did a fantastic job on it (also really really lengthy for a cinematic linear game)
the only flaw that I could see was that the framerates fell pretty low in non-combat areas and you can really see the PS3's age as it struggles to keep up with the stuff. looked absolutely fantastic though, so totally justified imo
