For some reason it bothers me that I decided to [sp]beat the surgeons to death.[/sp]
I actually sat there for a good while thinking "I don't want to kill this guy". Would have been nice to have the option just to knock him out or something.
[sp]i popped a cap in their asses[/sp]
Also anyone up for MP sometime? Faction thing looks kinda interesting.
I actually sat there for a good while thinking "I don't want to kill this guy". Would have been nice to have the option just to knock him out or something.
It would have been nice from our comfortable, outside perspective, but the real question is would it have been true to Joel's character and the world he inhabits? In that respect, I think both that scene and the remainder of the ending is incredibly powerful.
But at the end of the day I'm the one playing the game. I should get to decide.
But that really only applies to games where you HAVE that kind of choice and in certain cases, like this one, it's appropriate to remove that choice from the player. It would have done a disservice to the narrative and to Joel's character to allow you to make a choice that Joel wouldn't have made. If this were a game like...say Mass Effect, or Heavy Rain, or The Walking Dead, then I would agree that you should be able to make that choice because it's you who decides what your character is going to be like (more or less), but in The Last of Us, every character is firmly established and any deviation from that, such as a player making an out-of-character decision, could have weakened the story. Minor stuff like choosing whether or not to give Ellie a high five can be left up to the player, but something major like that...I think they did the right thing by taking the choice out of our hands and letting Joel make the decision that we arguably couldn't [sp](obviously I'm speaking about the ending as a whole, not just the surgeon. Killing the first one was in-character given he pulled a scalpel on us, but we had the choice with the other two)[/sp].
You guys are babies. [sp]I unloaded my assault rifle into those surgeon fuckers[/sp]
But at the end of the day I'm the one playing the game. I should get to decide.
Why should you get to decide? Because you got to in other games?
Why should you get to decide? Because you got to in other games?
No because otherwise it's just an "interactive movie".
Lets all just agree that both sides have good points. I don't want any arguments in this thread. v:v:v Anyway, if anybody plays online PM me your PSN usernames.
You guys are babies. [sp]I unloaded my assault rifle into those surgeon fuckers[/sp]
[sp]A shotgun is better, I killed the first surgeon then the girl surgeon that was talking shit, I blew both of their heads off.[/sp]
[sp] It's possible to not kill the scalpel wielding surgeon by shooting a warning shot, making him scramble away and back off. Though busting a cap in his ass for my baby girl was totally worth it and I could give literally no shits for anybody besides Ellie at that point. Being able to genuinely get invested in a character like that is such a rare treat. [/sp]
[sp]I burned them with a flamethrower, but they just instantly fell without catching on fire which was kind of disappointing.[/sp]
I'm up for some mp right now so add me anyone who wants to join.
So they made it pretty clear that at the very last stage of the infection, the infected start growing on the environment. But when [sp]Joel and Tess first encounter spores they come across the source and Tess says something like "this guy's not old", which obviously contradicts that.[/sp] Anyone got an explanation?
Not really a spoiler, it's been explained in many interviews, basicly when an infected is about to die, any infected, either if its wounded or just i dunno, it will find a dark place to die, and it will "melt" into where it died eventually. Thats why you see shrooms in corners sometimes.
You guys are babies. [sp]I unloaded my assault rifle into those surgeon fuckers[/sp]
[sp] I was efficient all the way to the end, LOL. I popped one round into the scalpel doctors head, then one into the nurse, and one into the other male doctor cowering in the corner behind the scalpel doctor.[/sp]
No because otherwise it's just an "interactive movie".
That's kind of doing it a disservice, don't you think? At no point do you get to make any meaningful choices of any kind in the following games: - The Uncharted Trilogy - Every Valve game - Killzone - Journey - Alan Wake - Borderlands 2 - Bioshock Infinite - The Legacy of Kain series - Final Fantasy (at least the ones I've played) That's just a trifling few, and out of those I can't think of any way in which they are degraded due to a lack of player choice (including Bioshock Infinite).
I actually sat there for a good while thinking "I don't want to kill this guy". Would have been nice to have the option just to knock him out or something.
I tried to get around it by [sp]shooting him in the foot, but apparently that was his weak spot as he collapsed on the ground dead instantly...[/sp] [sp]I left the others alone though, i wanted to save ellie and i blasted all the fireflies away without a second thought but i wasn't about to kill unarmed and probably some of the last surgeons left alive on the planet.[/sp]
I'm not using "interactive movie" in a distinctly negative way, it's just in this case I feel the game would have benefited from having some choice.
That's fair enough; guess we can just agree to disagree.
No because otherwise it's just an "interactive movie".
In other words a game with a story...
So, looks like Nolan North not only played David, but also [sp]the poor fucker that Joel brutally tortured with "I will rip off your kneecap."[/sp] Talk about a versatile sumbitch.
On the subject of the surgeons [sp]I walked up to the first surgeon and pressed square, hoping to just knock him out or something. Turns out that initiates a scene where Joel grabs the scalpel from the guy and after a brief struggle he jams it into the doctors neck. "Well that's not what I wanted at all."[/sp]

Fucking love Nolan, such a good actor. Anyway, something that you all probably know that I'm just reminding the ones that don't: [sp]Alyx Vance's voice actor plays (quite obviously) Marlene.[/sp]
End Level Spoilers: [sp] So how'd you guys go through the last room full of fireflies before the operating room? I managed to get through without firing a shot, thanks to a hostage and a couple of smoke bombs.[/sp]

Wooo I'm getting this tomorrow!

That was easy. I managed to sneak through the entire level without killing anyone up to that part. Also: [sp]playing as Ellie was probably the best fucking part ever. Goddamn that was so badass. It made me feel badass as well.[/sp]

[/sp] I was out of the place before they could react :v:
