Such a good game. Literally just been playing it. The game feels fairly lengthy but I think the end is in sight. My PS3 crashed as I was on a stealthy role.
For anyone that has a PS3 this is a must buy!
Just finished. What a fantastic game, deserves every ounce of praise it gets for character and story development.
I also appreciate the amount of detail they put into it all. The number of animals they added that would be shown for just one scene, the costume changes for Joel and Ellie, the quality of the animation... All helped to really give this game that little bit of magic.
I'm actually not :(
[sp]The first scenes with David take place in a sawmill or something, Ellie says something like "What is this place?" when you first come across it, so she clearly doesn't recognize it. Since she's been to the dam, it probably isn't a related location. I also believe they were fairly far apart, and Ellie wouldn't be able to drag Joel all the way back near the dam in the state he's in.[/sp]

On the subject of the animation, the Making Of documentary for the game said that they had to fit every possible animation that a player could end up using at any given time...in only 5mb of RAM. That's CRAZY.

That's console development.

Thanks for an actual explination!
[sp] I found it weird that they were very close with his wound, then very far apart from there at the end but I figured bad writers.
the place looked so similar though![/sp]
Honestly, this is probably one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life. I called my friends queermo's for getting all involved and attached to telltales' the walking dead but I remember during this I seen some guy hit Ellie with a pipe and said irl "Oh you fucking cheeky cunt!" in a caring way.
Madness.
Such absolute solid story telling, I hope they dont fuck it up with the DLC or next ones since they've taken the site for 2 & 3
Does anyone else have a link to the documentary ? I've been looking everywhere, still can't find them or they've been taken down!
That's console development.
Which makes it all the more impressive to see what kind of shit they can pull off, given the antiquated hardware. I can't wait to see what they can do with a full 5-7GB of RAM.

You have to buy the season pass to watch the documentary (legally), so I think Naughty Dog is being very quick about taking down those links.

You should probably look at this picture then, to show how big of a jump there is in quality.
This is one of the first games for the Xbox 360, compare that to Last of Us currently.
[img_thumb]http://www.n3rdabl3.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Call-of-Duty-3-01.jpg[/img_thumb]
Next consoles will likely have an even larger jump between now and the end of its lifespan.
Not to pull fanboy stuff toward this, Metro 2033 for example is really fucking pretty on the PC, same with Alan Wake.
Graphics don't make a game though, they only help you get immersed in it imo.
Whatever the next gen of consoles has is going to be amazing but they'll always give PC users more options forward and I cant wait to actaully jump on my new console and see complete real life similarities.
Do you not agree?

Better specs means more than just graphics. It means more power for physics, it means more possible animations, it means more features in general because now you have more than enough to spare for those features you wanted in but didn't have the budget for it memory/power wise.

Metro: Last Light looks fantastic even on the consoles.

Hell, I remember when we were all gobsmacked by Perfect Dark Zero, and that game looks like ASS now.
[t]http://www.therwp.com/files/game-images/pdzero03h.jpg[/t]
Compare that to games like Halo 4 (which, if nothing else, is pretty):

And damn, we've come a long way.
Aye! I cant figure out how to quote two fellas' at once! But I agree! I legit cannot wait to see the next generation of consoles! PC too!
Look at that COD2(?) screenshot compared to example Bioshock:Inifnate screenshots I guess.
It's only going to get better, The last of us actually looked like real life folk I think, and thats the end of this generation imagine what the end of the new generation will bring!

Damnit. I never got that either!
...Looks like I have to play it again.

I also never thought to [sp]look in her backpack[/sp], mainly because I couldn't figure out where. [sp]Was it when you found her backpack in the storage room at the cannibal camp? Because I found that, but it wouldn't let me open it, so I was like "whatever I guess I can't open it".[/sp]

It's a trophy too. I heard the ones she told in the library place but never the other ones.
The part with the [sp]giraffes[/sp]. It was so happy and calm, I didn't want to move on; I just wanted to stay there with Ellie. Knowing what happens afterwards makes me sad.
On the subject of the animation, the Making Of documentary for the game said that they had to fit every possible animation that a player could end up using at any given time...in only 5mb of RAM. That's CRAZY.
holy shit. considering what naughty dog was able to do with the ps3 i can't wait to see what they do with the ps4
Holy shit just beat the game earlier tonight.
Some final thoughts; The game is very, very, very good. Easily going to be the game to beat for GOTY 2013, and GTA 5 might be able to do it, but only because of the scope of GTA 5. Gameplay and Narrative wise, Last of Us stood out as one of the best games I've played in a long time. My play through clocked in around 20 hours on Hard Difficulty and I still didn't want it to end.
That said, the story does play some pretty common tropes I could see coming a mile away; but I still praise the story because they're handled so well. While their were plenty of moments I predicted, there were still a couple of times where the story veered away from my expectations and managed to surprise me, which of course were the most memorable to me.
Multiplayer is the shit as well. I actually purchased the season pass for it since I'm so hooked to it. It's one MP game where I feel above average at playing it right from the start. Considering the MP managed to take time away from me playing the campaign (Something I never would have believed prior to playing), I would recommend trying it. It's very strategic, brutal, and fun.
My biggest complaint has to deal with the behavior of the AI. First, let me say the AI in this game is great, and pretty much close to what we saw in the E3 demos; and I have no problems with the AI of the human enemies. That said, the AI for the infected occasionally pissed me off to no end. There were times when I found myself taking down runners/clickers like a pro; but in other segments of the game, the infected seemed hyper alert and as soon as I took a single step towards them, they'd turn around and instantly spot me. What's frustrating was it didn't feel like the AI was broken moreso that the rules had changed inexplicably for no reason.
Ending Spoilers!
[sp]The ending was pretty much fantastic. When I mentioned tropes before, I thought for sure either Joel or Ellie was going to die. I wanted to be proved wrong, but seeing as how I guessed pretty much they were going to have to kill Ellie for the cure (a pretty common occurrence in fiction), I had resigned myself to it. Thankfully, Naughty Dog delivered a much better ending that had me questioning Joel if what he did was truly right or not or if it even mattered.[/sp]
[sp]Also, when you're running with Ellie at the end, and the fireflies catch you, watching them pry Ellie away from you is heart breaking. When I died the first time before finding the elevator, I thought it was one of the futile endings where you try to escape but can't, that would have been pretty good as well, though insanely depressing.[/sp]
I urge everyone who's starting their first games to PLEASE play on Hard Mode and with Listen Mode turned off. It really enhances the experience and makes it so much more terrifyingly brilliant.
I was watching some Let's Plays on Youtube where they played on Normal and just kept spamming Listen. Really detracts the gameplay, especially [sp]the 'boss' fight against David as Ellie. Playing that on Hard w/o Listen was flippin' amazing. Most tense moment of the game for me, especially since he starts hiding and sneaking up on you after you shank him twice. With the Listen Mode turned on that part is such a cakewalk.[/sp]
SO PLEASE do yourself a favor and play on Hard with Listen Mode turned off. Best possible experience you can get on your first time IMO

[sp]The david fight was kinda anti-climactic for me, I didn't use listen and I played on hard but after I stabbed him he kinda just stood there, so I ran a circle around him and stabbed him again.[/sp]
If you havent, you should watch IGN's spoilercast when you beat the game. Naughty Dog told them some stuff about the ending. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/06/21/the-last-of-us-spoilercast
Fucking PS3 and its fucking good exclusives, god damn it.
I'll just wait for my xbox to die, re-sell all of my games and buy a PS3 with the saved money. Considering I once managed to bring back around 10 games for a 110€ reduction, I should be able to bring the rest and get a bigger one with no problem.
I want to play this game, damn it.
The PS4 won't be retrocompatible, right ?
Nope, it wont be, and while they say old PS3 games might make it to the PS4, I dont expect fairly new games to be there. I wouldnt buy The Last of Us AGAIN, to play it at 60 fps, but If you'd get it for free if you owned it on PS3, I'd actually get a PS4.. I dont know, I gotta see.

In the last part of that 'boss fight', listen mode only shows the enemy's position when they are running [sp]and when they step on the broken plates which is fair because they hear when you do as well[/sp], kind of like a sweeping radar. So it's still difficult and intense.
I did my first playthrough on hard with listen mode on.
The song from the main menu sends chills down my spine. It's so good.

The PS4 doesn't really interest me so far. I'm probably going to end up selling my xbox and getting a ps3 once the current update issue is resolved and once I get more money to afford it.
For my second playthrough, should I just start a new game with Survivor Difficulty, or do the New Game Plus?
Is there any advantage to doing New Game Plus, besides having your upgrades carry over?
Edit: Bugger it, I'll go Survival.

They drew the update back obviously. I never even managed to be prompted for it. Also, you should keep your old console. It's always good playing some old classic games, or having a console you feel okay about bringing somewhere, instead of bringing a brand new and fine console to some weird place. Also I'd like to one day try and mod my xbox into a suitcase and add a monitor :D
