[sp]It's implied, not outright stated. One of the doctor's said the Ellie's condition is unique as the fungus has mutated to not affect her lmbic system. Whether or not this means they've tried to get a vaccine from other patients is uncertain.
Regardless, killing Ellie to produce a vaccine was not even a remote guarantee. All they said on the subject was "we have to replicate this state in a laboratory setting" or something to that effect. Ellie's death would have given them a [I]chance[/I], and a slim one at that. Quite honestly though, I'm not sure it would have been worth it even if it had worked. A vaccine is only going to help with future cases, and that assumes the fireflies will be able to figure out mass production and distribution, while simultaneously not seeking power.[/sp]

That's a rather charming (and simultaneously depressing) homage right there. Not sure how I missed that house on my first run.
For anyone interested in the multiplayer, be prepared to get your ass handed to you, and the usual smack talk over mics. There will also be teabagging. I recommend keeping your head down and sticking with your team, or else you'll be killed off like a straggler.
I can't stand any of the guns in multiplayer so I just use the bow, at least I can down people in two shots with it.

No. PS4 is NOT going to have backwards compatibility. That was the same mistake the ps3 made and that's why it was $599 when it launched (on top of Blu-ray being fairly new technology). It will have gaikai which can stream ps1-ps3 games but it's not going to have backwards compatibility at all.

In 2014 PS+ PlayStation 4 users will be able to stream a small amount of PS3 games using [url=http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/10/4417082/playstation-4-gaikai-streaming-sony-e3-2013]Gaikai[/url]. No specific titles have been confirmed for Gaikai yet, but I can't imagine them passing up on The Last of Us.

Very much, but I doubt it will happen. Naughty Dogs engine is tailor-made to the PS3, and tbh, with all the hackery and things they did to make the levels look good, and seamless with he backdrops, I doubt it would look that good if translated directly to PS4 in higher resolution.
I just hope for a game set in the same universe, developed from scratch for the PS4.

I'm replaying the game in Survivor mode (going to stock the fuck up on tape for the next few areas because I like to use shivs and melee upgrades, game) and I'm noticing a lot of stuff I've missed and areas for supplies that I completely ignored - which is coming in useful (although running around on Sniper Avenue for supplies got me killed about twenty times).
Although the best thing is finding little interactions - stuff like [sp]when Ellie plays a short game of darts with Sam and they act like their age, momentarily completely oblivious to the world surrounding them[/sp]
