[sp]6 years? You mean 20. Unless you're speaking about something else?[/sp]
[sp]I think he means the fact that Ellie is 14. Therefor she was born immune 6 years after the initial outbreak.[/sp]
[sp]I think the ending is better without the justifications for Joel's actions. It's something he had to do based on his love for Ellie, just like a split-second decision, and when he confirmed that he was telling the truth at the end of the game it shows that he believes he made the right decision, no matter what could have been.[/sp]

Spoilers for anyone who hasnt played the first part of it. [sp]you could tell they were really into the game especially at the end [/sp]
I would watch a full Let's Play of this.
It seems that people really like to argue about the ending. [sp]On my first playthrough I was shocked at Joel for making such a selfish choice. But after thinking about it more the ending really brings home the whole message of the game. Joel isn't a good guy or a bad guy. The Fireflies aren't really good or bad either. Every party is just doing what they think is right -- doing what they feel they need to do to survive. In this world, there is no good or bad, there is just those who win. We just happen to want Joel and Ellie to win because we've been with them and we've seen their side of the story.
David is still a bad guy though. Fuck that guy. [/sp]
I also have a lot of respect for Naughty Dog for being risk-takers.
(Major Game spoilers?) [sp]Yo if anything, Ellie being immune 6 years after this thing happened is another sign of the world fixing itself without human intervention. Letting her die to save others is so dumb and selfish in in of itself... She could be the mother of a new generation of immune human beings.[/sp]
[sp]Yeah, except I'm pretty sure they explained somewhere that it wasn't Ellie that caused her immunity. Nothing about /her/ is special - the fungus mutated on it's own. So maybe it could've been the runner that infected her and Riley, we'll have to wait for the next issue of the comic to see if it could've been the runner that had a mutated strain of the fungus or some chemical science thing exclusive to Ellie.[/sp]
I've got to commend you guys for really being diligent with tagging spoilers. I haven't seen any rogue spoilers around here yet. Been following the thread for a good while and I'm planning to get the game on my birthday on the 9th of July. Glad I resisted the urge to click on the spoiler tags.

I mean, I know it's a bannable offense anyway, but you guys still do good work.

[sp]Yes, and seeing as she carries the disease, any guy she would have sex with would get infected as well. And the baby.
But considering that the fungus had a genetic mutation that essentially prohibited its own growth, it could be that, as she infects other people with it (ie. david), it doesn't turn them because it carries a growth-prohibitory gene.
So maybe she could actually spread a counter infection where everybody gets infected, but nobody actually turns to a giant wall-sponge. The growth-stopping gene still gets spread around, meaning that it will more likely evolve to become a defining trait of that strain of the fungus.
~speculation~[/sp]

[sp]The only problem with that is that Riley turned into an infected. Ellie didn't so it couldn't have been the runner that infected them.[/sp]

[sp]It has to be HER specifically as she can breath in the spores and not be affected at all. It just stays dormant inside her.[/sp]

[sp]To be fair I bet even she didn't know if David would turn and he too shows no sign of infection spreading as quickly, as for example Tess. Remember how bad her bite looked?[/sp]
[sp]While you can justify Joel's actions at the end all you want, you can't forget that he himself didn't think about any of that. Even if he did the "right" decision, that wasn't his intention. He's still a really shitty person, which is why he's such a great character.[/sp]

[sp]I thought that wasn't confirmed yet. The 4th comic isn't out yet (iirc) and all Ellie says is that Riley was bitten and now she's dead. She could've been killed for any reason after being bitten before they had the chance to find out if she was immune. Unless I missed something, which is entirely possible.[/sp]
Good fucking lord.

[sp] I think Ellie says that she watched Riley turned. I remember that there was the talk about "losing their minds together" or something. They waited out the infection, but Riley turned and Ellie didn't. [/sp]
Spent the last two hours trying to get to the Sniper on that street. Only had a nail bomb, zero ammo, zero medkits and zero supplies. Went left, got a rag and couldn't do anything. If I try meleeing someone I get shot to death by other people, I get one shotted by the Sniper if I come out of cover. Went right, took out the guy in the first house, got 3 bullets, tried progressing further, got round the corner, saw 4 guys threw a nail bomb took out 2 of them. Killed one more with the pistol then I get shot again. Every time I tried doing it had the same results.

God damn it :(
Me and my BF have been "boyfriend" co-oping the game together but ALL WEEKEND long I work when he doesn't and he works when I don't
So now we just got to pittsburgh and I have to leave the game at that point for a few days until we can play together again. I'd play ahead on a different manual save but I'm pretty sure I can't do that.
What sucks even more is we are renting it by the day, so we just have to throw $4-$6 down the drain for this :(
Jesus, in cutscenes you can see Joel's chest hair. The attention to detail in this game is crazy.

Yeah, I got to that section with barely any health and no ammo or supplies. I got past it by going left, taking out the guy in the house (who dropped two shorty shells), then going outside to throw a brick to attract the attention of the other guys. I then went back inside and hid in the kitchen till one of them came in to search for me. I threw a bottle at him, grabbed him, and used him as a human shield while I killed his two friends with the shorty shells. Those guys dropped enough ammo to let me beat the rest of the area with headshots.

I know it sucks, but its worth it to spend quality time with your BF :)
Ugh god, I'm having so much trouble stealth killing the infected in that tilted building on Survivor difficulty. It seems like no matter how slow I go, flashlight on or off, the runners always turn around and attack before I can grab them.
Okay so apparently the infected can see through cover. I tested it in four different covers and they could all see through them. Guess my game is glitched or something? Haven't other people had trouble with cover or am I just borked?
So I just realized that if you listened closely to the recording the guy made at [sp]the university of Colorado the game was hinting that the Fireflies' research was useless the entire time and if Joel hadn't skipped past it he would've never had to fight through the fireflies at the hospital and his and Ellie's relationship wouldn't be all fucked up at the end. You heard snippits of him talking about how it was all in vain and the cure couldn't be made and such and the Fireflies are batshit insane.[/sp]
Wow, I was reluctant to try the multiplayer but i'm having a great time with it. I really advise that you try it out if you haven't already. I'm almost worried that it will eventually die out. I really hope it doesn't, it's awesome.

[sp]You can listen to the entire thing. Just open it from the backpack once you get it. I can't remember what he says though.[/sp]
The detail in this game. Fuck.

I'm not sure why people are reluctant to try multiplayer on certain games. It is part of the game... so... why not give it a try, seeing you paid for it?
Anyone want to play some multiplayer today/tomorrow? I don't have any PSN friends so I have been playing alone.
I'll play with you right now if you are on the west coast
