Pretty much perfect scores across the board: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/the-last-of-us/critic-reviews This is pretty rare to have two universal critically acclaimed games released before we've even seen the halfway point in the year (bioshock infinite would be the other). Though I wonder if it'll be like Bioshock Infinite, where it leaves a wonderful first and last impression but the more you play and dwell on it the more it turns into a "Eh, it was a pretty good game but slightly over valued". I mean I loved Infinite and completely disagree with people who say the gameplay is boring, but I can totally understand someone playing it feeling lukewarm to it now that I've beaten it and the first impression has worn off. I'd still herald it as a must play (in combined with the first one) and think it's definitely the "Half Life Series" of this generation, but once you let it sink in and let the first impression effect fade it isn't as brilliant as those impressions make you believe it is. It is kind of scary though, how all a game needs is a wonderful first and last impression to maximize hype around release, even if the game itself as a whole isn't nearly as good as the impression gives once that first impression dies out. Skyrim was another game that "suffered" from this - the game is super shallow and has all these fundamental problems that prevent it from lasting and having the replay value it should, but when you first play through it you are completely blinded to it because it gives a great first impression and the illusion of greatness.
We are all in for a real treat with this game you guys, I'm happy to have preordered the survival edition, and have taken the 14th off work.

I can't say I really care about Bioshock Infinite much now, but I know I loved every single bit of it during my playthrough. It's like anything really. You watch a great movie in the cinema and come out buzzing about it and a week later it's nothing special any more.
Now... let the war for GOTY begin. Bioshock Infinite vs The Last of Us... fight!

Oh snap this game is out soon! Gonna pre-order it this weekend. Most likely the Survival Edition. Isn't the only difference between the Post-Pandemic (Collectors) is the figure?
Good luck finding the survival edition. It's sold out at a few sites online here (Amazon at least) and reports are many Gamestop stores are out.

I had some complications with my living arrangement and had to move back home to Regina, I have my preorder in Saskatoon, and the process of moving my preorder to a different city is ridiculous. They couldn't do it and also made it clear that it's too late to preorder the survival editions. Thankfully I didn't end up moving back to Regina, well, I did, but it didn't last long. I kept my preorder in Saskatoon and am able to keep the survival edition. I'm pretty sure they're sold out everywhere.
Glad i pre-ordered the Ellie edition some time ago.
Well if I'm not mistaken I don't live in an area that plays these types of games. Either way I'll be fine with the Standard Edition.
Gamestop is doing a trade in 3 games and you get $10 bonus credit. + 30% if you trade towards The Last of Us + 10% extra if you're a powerup rewards member. I traded in 3 games which all added up to about $33 with all of these bonuses. I have a $10 coupon as a reward from the gamestop rewards program, and already paid $5 towards the game, so I'm going to be paying a total of like $20 for this game. Brand new.
I think its pretty awesome that so far some of the most defining developers that made an impression this generation managed to leave it with a bang, makes me excited for what they'll begin for the next-gen
holy shit, about 17 hours of playtime! Pre-ordered
Pepper;40911459']The 360 doesn't have enough muscle to run it properly anyway. I just pre-ordered this, can't wait.
The 360 could run it, there's barely a difference between the PS3 and 360. The problem is because the game is optimised for the PS3's cell processor it would run pretty badly on the 360 without a decent amount of extra development time.

Although, that could be easily avoided by just having multiple discs.

Not necessarily performance wise, but the architecture is so different that it would take shitloads of work to port a game that was built originally with only Cell in mind to the 360.
I'm 99% sure that won't happen, they haven't a released a game on a non-sony platform for almost 20 years.
Well yeah, Naughty Dog is owned by Sony.
I just love seeing these. I've been waiting so long for this game. A lot of people just looked at me and said, "Meh" any time I mentioned how amazing it is going to be. In their faces. The reviews are incredible. I just hope they don't lead people into overestimating it, especially with those bold quotes, leading to disappointment.
Not gonna buy into the reviews personally, but what I have seen has me very interested in this game. Any chance it'll work on a PS4? I don't have a PS3, and I intend on buying a PS4 when the time comes, I just don't know anything about PS4 backwards compatibility.

I think I read somewhere that it won't, but that may have been info on the new Xbox, and not the PS4. Either way, I'm having doubts about that.

Damn, I hope it does then.
Really looking forward to this, I've got a few games I've been meaning to trade-in for a while now so hopefully I won't have to pay too much extra on top. The Joel edition is still available from shopto.net for anyone in the UK interested.

Couldn't believe it.

[editline]5th June 2013[/editline] Hopefully i will get the game a few days early, you normally do if you pre-order games online.
A friend of mine completed it. Took him 19 hours. He says it was a really awesome game. Said he even shed a tear in the first ~30 mins.
