Etika is fake as hell but eh, was still alright.
I think Jacksepticeye has some of the best reactions, at least for non-genocide.
A friend of mine stopped on Undyne because after a while the fight just becomes too hectic for him to keep up with and he doesn't have enough healing items. [sp]I'm trying to avoid spoiling him so I just suggested, "If Talk or Mercy don't seem to be doing anything, try something else," since he'd probably fought Undyne enough times and for long enough to realize spamming Mercy isn't going to work like it did with Toriel or Papyrus. He's going pacifist inherently, knows nothing about the game really.[/sp]
The hint that worked for me was [sp]"There is more than one option under Mercy"[/sp]
He's a smart guy, so I don't want to point it out that obviously. I feel I need to push him into reviewing his options next time instead him just trying to bruteforce it again. [sp]My next hint I have planned is saying, "What did you spend your time doing in the previous encounters with Undyne?" But I may have to revise that, also feels too obvious.[/sp]

undyne gives a pretty damn obvious clue at the start too
undyne gives a pretty damn obvious clue at the start too
The thing is, though, that the answer is so against conventional RPG concepts. [sp]When have you ever ran away from a boss fight in an RPG? More to the point when is it even possible to do so?[/sp] I don't personally think it was that hard to figure out since it just honestly requires you to pay a little bit of attention, but I love the whole idea behind it.
undyne gives a pretty damn obvious clue at the start too
unless you're me, who interpreted it as [sp]she won't be my friend if I run away[/sp] that was a miserable time

Plus of course, the entirety of Waterfall was creating a big setup of what your modus operandi should be when it comes to Undyne. It's just a lot of people kinda forget all of that setup because they're in 'videogame mode' again.
What impact would Undertale have on future games?
The thing about Undyne's fight is that most people by this point are locked in the mindset that you will always need to use the SPARE command to end fights without violence. And with that they never end up thinking about running away they just keep pressing on with the same strategy with no avail. And I'm pretty sure she is the only boss in the entire game that you can actually run away and still progress to the next stage. It kinda breaks some rules since you can't really do that with the other bosses.

Although [sp]resting in the bed and hoping things fix themselves at that point gets one of the Asgore text flashbacks, an easy to miss tidbit.[/sp] Also I eventually escaped from Undyne, but only after I realized, "Wait, there's nothing changing, and she's basically repeating her pattern now." After that I just.. tested it and hoped it wouldn't fuck things up, and then the bells clicked in my head when I saw the result.
What impact would Undertale have on future games?
I think it'll definitely inspire more developers to go independent.
Fuck looking at people freaking out to scary games, seeing people being legitimately disturbed by [sp]Omega Flowey[/sp] is the only thing you need.
[sp]When have you ever ran away from a boss fight in an RPG? More to the point when is it even possible to do so?[/sp]
Off the top of my head, you have to run away from a certain boss in 'OFF' so you can tire him out and hurt him.
What impact would Undertale have on future games?
I'm hoping for more RPGs with non-violent alternatives to fighting. Maybe also give generic enemies personalities outside of "stand and fight".
What impact would Undertale have on future games?
There's already talk that Earthbound-style games might become a bit of a fad for a while thanks to Undertale and LISA.
Off the top of my head, you have to run away from a certain boss in 'OFF' so you can tire him out and hurt him.
You're supposed to but don't have to. It's not very clear that is what you need to do and so a lot of people just end up killing him at that point. It doesn't change how the game ends up going though.
I'm seriously thinking about making a Undertale RPG with the mechanics on the same vein of M&L Super Star Saga or something among those lines. But truthfully my main objective is to make a spin-off where you can play as the other characters. I even have a friend that's doing college for Game Design that could help me create the sprites and build the gameplay mechanics. I'm really on the brink of actually going for this idea.
There's already talk that Earthbound-style games might become a bit of a fad for a while thanks to Undertale and LISA.
Imagine non-RPGs getting the quirky treatment
undyne gives a pretty damn obvious clue at the start too
It is obvious, although that's not how I figured it out the first time. Once she got mad and only started saying "..." I figured that there was something else that I had to do until I just happened to check the mercy menu to see if anything changed. Undertale was honestly incredibly easy for me to figure out in terms of sparing in my first playthrough, because I've done nothing but play video games for maybe 80% of my life. So it's very easy for me to think outside of the box when games say there are different routes or options on engaging situations. [sp]that and what the one froggit said near the beginning of the game about using spare even if their names arent yellow THE ONE THING THAT EVERYONE SKIPS OVER.[/sp]
[sp]that and what the one froggit said near the beginning of the game about using spare even if their names arent yellow THE ONE THING THAT EVERYONE SKIPS OVER.[/sp]
I paid attention to that but I still messed up by [sp]killing Toriel since I hadn't fully grasped it all yet. After a reload I managed to keep myself consistent. Undyne on the other hand is the next stonewall since the game basically wants you to re-evaluate what you're doing when it seems like she won't change her pattern, and since Spare isn't working anymore and Running is usually not the first option people go to for a boss fight of all things, I can see why some get stuck on it if they're thinking more on besting the encounter like they did Toriel and Papyrus than the puzzle element of it. When you think on it in hindsight, the hints combined with the fact that you've already been running from her the entire time make it extremely obvious.[/sp] You could say the true puzzles of Undertale are basically overcoming your usual RPG / game logic, [sp]and then Asgore forces you to fight him, causing all people playing the game blind to wonder if they really, truly have to fight him as they're put into a state of questioning if it's really the way - something Asgore himself is probably thinking at the same time to mirror the player rather than just be a final boss.[/sp]
Here's a shirt design I would wear: black background with an annoying dog on it and "the dog absorbs the design" under it
That desktop background Lmao
Source if you guys want it

I just know that they are genuine. [sp]or maybe I prefer him too much[/sp]
Crendor's not bright, but that's what makes him endearing.
Nope. His completely calm attitude is what makes him endearing (at least to me).
So I guess at some point Toby stopped caring about what people do with Undertale's sprites because he revoked his "please don't upload anything until a year later" statement. Now we got some rips in the works.
*HMM... NOT A ROCK AND NOT A MONSTER... *THEN BY PROCESS OF ELIMINATION...? I've never seen these sprites ingame. Are they actually ingame or are they unused?
