I never figured out the axe trick until my 3rd playthrough :vs:
[editline]29th January 2016[/editline]
[sp]I thought it was the only way to progress, I didn't want to that's why I went back and just kept trying and trying once I figured it out the mechanics. :([/sp]
I'm going into the fray as blind as I can.
then just keep going and don't stop and go here unless you are stuck on a puzzle, ok bb? We don't want you seeing spoilers here.

They were the first fight I was stuck at until I figured out the axe pattern.
I'm still confused as to why so many people do that, [sp] She can't even kill you, once you reach 1 HP her attacks avoid you [/sp]
[sp]Well she repeats two of her dialogue lines if you try to spare her over and over, which in any other game means that you can't progress by just does that same thing over and over. The frog also tells you that you can take someone down to low health and spare them. So if somebody sees lines repeating, and remembered that line from froggit, the logical choice is to attack her until she's at low health then try to spare her. Of course the game forces you to kill her if you go this route, by making any attacks when she's below like 1/3 of her health instakill her.[/sp]

she can kill you, it's just unlikely to happen. I think you gotta get hit twice in a turn or something?
i dont want to beat undertale anymore

Where are you at in the game, I assume somewhere [sp]near the end of the game[/sp]

The game teaches you that pacifist victories are act>yellow name>spare. Players know that acting does nothing and the game has defined to us explicitly what the spare option is used for. Our only option left is to think that it's one of those common RPG encounters where you fight someone until they almost die and end the battle like that to prove yourself, which she asks you to do.
I relate it to something Egoraptor said in a Sequelitis long ago about Zelda OOT Puzzles. Toriel's pacifist option isn't a "a-ha!" moment but a "seriously THAT's how I was supposed to do that?" moment. The only reason you'd click on spare is out of confusion and desperation, not out of reaching a logical conclusion.
It was arguably worse in the demo since the names didn't turn yellow when you were able to spare them. You'd have to rely on the game telling you that X didn't want to fight which doesn't happen in the [sp]Toriel[/sp] battle until you [sp]spammed the spare button a fuckload of times[/sp]
also players aren't expecting the damage to ramp up so suddenly
i observed that it began to increase but it shot up way past what i was anticipating
but maybe that's well done? it really makes you feel for the character
Where are you at in the game, I assume somewhere [sp]near the end of the game[/sp]
yep [sp] true pacifist after true final boss[/sp]
You know what genocide Undyne brought to mind?
Darth Sion from Knights Of The Old Republic 2.
Let me explain. Undyne on the genocide route [sp], after being struck with a mortal blow, is held together by her determination alone and would probably melt after killing the child, and even if she fails to.[/sp] Similarly, Darth Sion [sp], who has seemingly sustained enough injuries to have died hundreds of times over, is revealed to be alive only because the dark side of the force and his intense hatred and determination to kill all jedi is keeping him alive. The only way to kill him is to break his will by repeatedly defeating him each time he gets up, or by convincing him that death is more favorable to his tormenting existence.[/sp]
I didn't encounter jerry on my first run and my true run but when my friend came over and played her first run she encountered jerry and I was surprised by that. (It was a completely fresh run)
How random is it exactly.
It's a reference to a highly adult and fetishistic text-based game known as Corruption of Champions.
That's all that I will say on that matter.
Am I missing something because I'm pretty sure that game didn't invent the concept of sandy blonde hair.
My first death was actually to Undyne.

Getting close (True Pacifist spoilers). A few more tries and I'll have this down pat.
Also, some people keep talking about Sans' perpetual smile, and what it might mean. Personally I think that Sans' and Papyrus' faces are perpetually like that due to be skeletons.

Sans has a mouth but no visible jaw so its not like he has a choice

Balls. (Spoilers as above.)
Any easy way to [sp]skip straight to the special thanks?[/sp]
I just realized that this is probably the most appropriate song in Undertale to play on a Steam Controller

(note: there is no speaker on the steam controller. the program that allows this makes the controller's motors vibrate at very specific rates to produce notes. personally I think that's rad as fuck)
That moment you will never have a pacifist playthrough because Jerry exists.

It's weird, in the 50 hours I've played this game I've only encountered Jerry once, even after several resets

I've been playing around with this a bit too.

May be a bit quiet and the final note is very unpleasant. Sorry for the potato quality, I don't have any good recording equipment.
[editline]30th January 2016[/editline]
Oh yeah and it's only one channel because I hadn't figured out how to get it to do 2 channels when i recorded this. I got it working and did another song with it but it's irrelevant to this thread.
[sp] Something that I never actually put that much thought into it before. When you lose to Sans in the Judgement Hall and come back he says something like " Guess I'm pretty good at my job huh? ". Also during he's battle dialogue when he tries to spare you he mentions something about this making hes job a lot easier.
It's funny to think he's not doing this purely to avenge the people you killed. But because it's he's duty as well to make sure you do not proceed forward anymore. Like he's some sort of gatekeeper. Who's sole purpose is to judge whoever passes trough that hall to see if they are actually worth of meeting Asgore.
I wonder who exactly Sans works for. I mean is it really Asgore? kinda hard to tell since they have next to nothing when it comes to character interaction in the game.[/sp]

He is VERY dedicated in his job as at the tollbooth.
So someone started coloring the intro:

[sp]Wow the sepia tones in the intro actually were there for a reason.[/sp]
[sp]Also, there are no flowers on the ground in the intro.[/sp]

That line seems more to be referencing his [sp]promise to toriel.[/sp]
Alright, artistic dog is here.
That line seems more to be referencing his [sp]promise to toriel.[/sp]
[sp] Doesn't he already breaks he's promise the moment he starts fighting you thought? I mean Toriel explictly told him to protect if a human ever happens to pass trough that one door in Snowdin. Trying to incapacitate you by hurting you would surely break that promise [/sp]
Also I failed to mention that he might be referring to he's job as a sentry. But who knows? it could be something else that we are unaware.
