My headcanon that Greater dog is actually a bunch of smaller dogs piloting the suit just makes this hilarious to look at.

God I hope not. I'm not usually into figurines (Hell, not even Amiibos managed to keep my interest long enough), but those Lesser Dog and Sans figurines are too good to pass up on. Wouldn't want to miss em'.

I took the plunge.
for spending roughly $49 total on one game that gave me a kicking rad soundtrack, a great game that I spent 40 hours on, and a cute plush, I'd say it's worth it.

You don't fight him and he doesn't say anything particulary interesting. I think the only merit you could count is the tension that builds up when you think you are going to have to fight this huge monster.
Sure a lot of things doesn't have a big point to them in Undertale, but if they don't, they usually have a meta joke, a pun or just some smart mechanic behind it. In a game where pretty much everything seems to be there for a reason, onionsan just feels out of place.
