Undertale megathread v4 - An award winning RPG where nobody has to get hurt. YES, that STILL include
I think that if there's 3 major criticisms that I would give to Undertale, it would be:
- The water cooler
- Having to figure out to spare Toriel and to a lesser extent Undyne.
- The fact that fucking up a simple command in the penultimate "boss" in the Genocide route can fuck up the entire several hour run.
- The water cooler requires a very short leap in logic, it stands out and the character literally starts calling out about overheating right before they collapse.
- Sparing Toriel is supposed to be obtuse, just as it is also incredibly easy to do (to the point where Toriel will avoid killing you). I myself as a avid dark souls player got through it with the ever-useful "Exhaust all the dialogue" rule, not to mention I certainly wasn't going to kill goat mom if I managed to spare a shit-ton of frogs beforehand.
In semi-related news, is it impressive that I went into the game largely blind (except for reading the store page), and 25 hours of gametime later (3 runs) I still haven't killed a single thing, or am i just a big puss?
You can if you whiff your attacks on [sp]Mettaton NEO[/sp]
No, you can't. This is made-up bullshit.
I feel like she needs to have a stronger emphasis on leaving forward instead of back like yours. Alphys comes across more like a dinosaur and it feels right to me when some of those gait traits are kept.

PS from now on all credit goes to Midkey for sketches and models. She's a shy dope who doesn't post much.
It's just the reference pose though.

I can't agree here. I mean for god's sake one of the tutorial froggits in the ruins literally tells you that sparing people when it's not yellow is a thing you can do. It's not hard to put that together. When I read that I thought it was pretty clear that would be important in the immediate future. And considering the dialogue was always new each time I did, I knew I was making some form of progress.
And Undyne's gimmick was fine. Clever even.
[sp]Not hitting Mettaton NEO with a good amount of strength[/sp]
Even then, it doesn't ruin your entire run, you can so easily go back to your last save.
It still amazes me that people ask if they can still do PACIFIST (Meaning: Someone opposed to violence as a means of settling disputes) if they KILL any type of lesser monster without doing so for the boss ones
It's literally in the name
Some people just don't get it, I guess. Thing with Undertale is that, like Master Yoda once said, "you must unlearn what you have learned".
I actually probably would've played the game the way i did even if i didn't know anything
Since the store page made it highly clear that violence was NEVER [sp](Save for Asgore)[/sp] the answer to any of the problems shown

I just would've had more trouble figuring shit out

I didn't know anything besides the parts I played from the demo.
[sp]Flowey calling me out on accidentally killing Toriel drove me to prove him wrong[/sp](First boss spoilers), so I went full pacifist the first time around in the full game.
I immediately used the water on Undyne in my playthrough, but it is weird that it's part of a pacifist run, especially since she doesn't actually die if she doesn't get splashed.
To be fair, in some games the meaning of a 'pacifist run' is kinda stretchy. Some have forced fights that require you to kill because of plot but still counts you as a pacifist, some only care about "important" characters, random encounters don't count.
That's why[sp]after the Toriel fight Flowey has separate dialogue if you kill random encounters but not Toriel to hammer in the point that no, in my book you're not going pacifist.[/sp]

I think it may have been possible to do that in the original Deus Ex, come to think of it.
Man I thought lurking the reddit would let me catch all the really good song covers, but just browsing youtube aimlessly turned up a lot of pretty great ones. This guy combined His Theme, Hopes and Dreams, Save the World, and a bit of Last Goodbye from the end of the game all together pretty damn seamlessly, and this is the first I've seen of it

A++
Also god damn youtube is flooded with covers from this game right now lmao. I even found someone that combined 13 covers of Megalovania all together.
Yeah man, I've listened to those DM Dokuro remixes a lot in the last coupla months. He's the same guy who did the Bonescuffle remix, among other things.
jesus this last battle is freaking me out, [sp] i knew flowey was gonna fuck shit up but this shit right here..good god [/sp]
[sp]Ha... Ha... How interesting.[/sp]
[sp]Do you really think you're fighting the final boss?[/sp]
jesus this last battle is freaking me out, [sp] i knew flowey was gonna fuck shit up but this shit right here..good god [/sp]
I did that battle at like, 3AM and I was suuuuuuper uncomfortable the whole time.

[sp]maybe dont post stuff like this[/sp]
I did that battle at like, 3AM and I was suuuuuuper uncomfortable the whole time.
yea its 2am right now and i feel like calling my mom lol
okay but seriosly how do u even beat this shit, [sp] flowey just spams all kinds of shit at me and i dont even know how to dodge all that. the game crashing(on purpose right?) after everytime he kills me gets a bit frustrating) [/sp]
When i fought [sp]Omega Flowey[/sp] I didn't really get uncomfortable or scared, though i did find him creepier than Giygas.

[sp] Flowey might be a complete pain to fight in that battle, but your progress on the SOULS during that fight carries over. So if you made it to one of the bizarro "intermission" sections, it'll continue from that point if you die again, iirc. [/sp]
finally beat the game, [sp]got even a bit teary eyed when the skeleton bros called me. well up until the point where papyrus said undyne and him were gonna beat me up if they ever got to the surface cos of that whole asgore thing.. i DID spare the king but then the psychotic flower ruined everything[/sp]
anyway, this game was really nice but i probably missed out on a lot by playing this neutral run. gonna try the pacifist run next. Not sure if ill ever be able to play the genocide one though lol

I knew there was something fishy going on the moment [sp]Flowey came in after Asgore fight and was like "its kill or be killed" and my game closed. I got mildly spooked when I reopened it (where all the glitchy stuff happens) and started the fight, but that was about it.[/sp] Honestly wasn't expecting something like that to happen, but it was pretty interesting in the end.
Oh yeah and the whole [sp] true lab [/sp] also kinda spooked me but it was pretty cool in the end

Hot tip
[sp]If you were pacifist all the way until that ending you won't need to do another full pacifist run. Just load the save from right before the final boss. Flowey gave you some advice at the end of the game. Might be a good idea to check it out.[/sp]

Improved it a bit. I think i'll start modelling it out now.
[sp]this is my first character model so if anyone would be pleased to help me out that'd be great[/sp]

[sp]Undyne wouldn't want to beat you up, normally.[/sp]

the absolute worst thing about undertale fans is how they try to be all cryptic like this for the laughs but in the process they just ruin all the surprises. it happens all the damn time right in this thread

It might be even harder after true pacifist but geno is only a good pain and the games real challenge. It's a bit sad seeing many people refusing to play some of the best parts of the game.

People are disagreeing with this, but that's what I did? Am I missing something?
I don't want to spread misinformation.
