I feel like the only person that likes attack/defense.
Attack and defense maps would be a hell of a lot better if the whole map wasn't one big linear chokepoint. They should take notes from some of TF2's Control Point map designs.
The 60 tick and the hitbox update is a good indication that Blizzard wants this to be more of a competetive game.
I don't see how. That improves the game for everyone playing, even if they weren't pushing comp I'm sure they'd do it
how is overwatch a 'casual hero based shooter'? its pretty obvious from the start, especially with how blizzard has treated hots/hearthstone that they are a big proponent of esports. the game's balance is mostly based around competitive play, and competitive wouldn't exist if they wanted it to be 'casual'. if you want casual, play quick play. as soon as you play competitive, you should expect to play against team compositions and players that want to win. does that give people the right to be a dick to you? not really, but you have to realize that by going into competitive and choosing a hero that doesn't conform to the team comp or the current competitive meta without having another person to back you up, or having a specific plan in mind (like some kind of gimmick play), YOU are the one being a dick. you are bringing the quality of the team down and possibly ruining other people's games. tl;dr, if you want to play your favorite hero and they're not competitively viable, go play quick play. when you join competitive you should expect to have to play that way
you are correct, i was just mocking people always referring to the pro player meta since the meta is relative to your ranks range of skill level. heroes you would consider to be nonviable are still capable of being effective for the majority of the player base. e.g facing players who aren't capable of dealing with a bastion makes bastion a good pick. some heroes branded as competitively viable might require superior awareness so you need to be good at recognizing opportunities and judging situations, or perhaps require you to have much more grace and finesse than usual. this means a hero you would consider to be meta would be significantly weaker at low skill level of play. e.g a genji at very low rank versus mei.
I don't see how. That improves the game for everyone playing, even if they weren't pushing comp I'm sure they'd do it
They were literally the biggest complaints against the game's ever seriously being played competitively.
from sr 70 to 64 with stomp after stomp but i think i figured it all out before this endless defeats i had a win ratio of 60% which is now 51% "forced 50% is not real" my foot
They were literally the biggest complaints against the game's ever seriously being played competitively.
People would have complained regardless. Bad hitboxes and low tic rate effect everyone, not just comp nerds
So, I just got cursed at for using bastion because its not "meta". God the community is toxic.
I had a Lucio once rage quite hard on microphone because I was playing Bastion, even though I had gold elims & damage and some silvers (in quickplay). I just told him "me no speak english" and he went quiet. Also beep'd at him everytime I saw him.
I just now noticed that Scuba Winston's oxygen tank goes flying off when he dies.

I'm probably going to piss the entire thread off with this but Overwatch reminds me a lot of competitive Smash Like yeah, you can play the game competitively but you change so much and apply so many limitations to focus on being the objectively best that its hardly even the same game Like the fact that comp OW is almost exclusively the same 8 heroes feels like it goes against the entire spirit of the game, but that's the nature of it I personally like quickplay where you can play everyone and they're fun

Got my first "You're not playing the game right" private message. Was on Hanamura as Reinhardt and constantly trying to use my shield to protect teammates and push forward but only one guy ever really stood behind it and tried to help me out in most cases (He was Lucio/Ana). What ended up happening is I walk to the second point shield up and cover my team, shield would break and I'd have 3-4 enemies on me and only one teammate alive (our lucio). At that point I usually wouldn't have anywhere to escape to as I'm taking hits from literally all sides and my HP is vanishing so I'd charge and try to take out one of them before my hp hit 0. My thought process being "I'm going to die due to the 2 turrets on me, junkrat, soldier and everything else I may as well try to create a opening for the Lucio to escape." Eventually there's 30 seconds left on the clock and I say fuck it I need to contest it to give my team time to arrive so I dashed in and hit overtime with my shield up. Team didn't make it and I got a message saying "Man you can't just charge in like that, the team was depending on your shield." I apologized and said I wanted to contest the point as time was almost up. "No you did it a lot." I explained I only did it when my shield was shattered and I was taking heavy fire in the hopes of getting the Lucio to safety (which worked out most of the time). Just hopeless situations where I was going to die anyway. "Stop making excuses! I'm not mad, just play the game better! I'm trying to help you!" Ended up rolling my eyes and ignoring it at that point- I can accept advice and will ask for it but man you gotta listen to what the other person is saying. I didn't just play Rein to spam charge otherwise I wouldn't of blocked most of a Phara Ult or D.va's and have almost 20k damage repelled.
People would have complained regardless. Bad hitboxes and low tic rate effect everyone, not just comp nerds
Casual players probably didn't even notice.
Basically I dislike comp because the heroes I'm best at are 76 and Pharrah and they're not VIABLE >:(
Her being able to deal with Reinhardt comes from her penetrating fruit gusher blasts at a distance. Like Winston, they force the Reinhardt to either move away or lower his shield. As for Genji, a well-placed M2 and dash would kill Symmetra in a split second, but if the Genji in question blows, she wouldn't have to worry about him jumping all over the place like some idiot monkey.
It'd be a much better Genji than me who'd be able hit a tiny target like her with the new projectile hitboxes for the full 164 damage combo consistently enough to risk getting that close. Personally I'd 1v1 a Winston over Symmetra any day.
Casual players probably didn't even notice.
I spent most of high school playing Call of Duty and other pretty casual FPSes, casual players definitely notice it. I can't count the amount of times I heard "WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID HE GET ME AROUND THE CORNER???"
I accidentally nano'd our Hanzo instead of Roadhog but did so at the exact same moment he used his ult so I ended up giving him 2 secured kills and 2 more assists :v: [vid]https://giant.gfycat.com/WideImperfectJuliabutterfly.webm[/vid]

There are specific strategies and heroes who just work better or more consistently and because there is something more to gain or lose from winning or losing, players like to conform to that meta. You can't very well expect people not to use the most effective strategy in a competitive environment.
Basically I dislike comp because the heroes I'm best at are 76 and Pharrah and they're not VIABLE >:(
a 76 is still viable for taking down a pharah and sweeping as long as they play with another dps and 2 tanks typically.
a 76 is still viable for taking down a pharah and sweeping as long as they play with another dps and 2 tanks typically.
except phara isn't viable so playing 76 to counter her doesn't help the team
Basically I dislike comp because the heroes I'm best at are 76 and Pharrah and they're not VIABLE >:(
All the heroes I enjoy playing are at most weak than the rest which makes me sad.
Honestly the problem with pharah is that the nature of her ult means that the only ways to make her viable are to nerf long range characters or give her more health during the duration of her ult

just got cussed out after swapping to voip and asking nicely if zenny could heal me (I literally was standing next to him with him refusing to harmony orb me) [vid]http://dl.nikolaszorko.sexy/2016-08-13_13-45-36.mp4[/vid] anyone else unable to play when getting yelled at, just completely unwilling and just demoralized?
anyone else unable to play when getting yelled at, just completely unwilling and just demoralized?
The years of playing dota taught me not to give a single fuck and properly enjoy the ambience sounds instead. It actually works, try it.
He's not entirely wrong, OW feels like its really trying to be a serious competetive team based game. I think it just gives the air of Casual game due to how many low skill heroes there are in it. The 60 tick and the hitbox update is a good indication that Blizzard wants this to be more of a competetive game.
Agree with the casual aspect - I think everyone here has picked a character they've never played before and got multiple gold medals at least once
