Playing for rank and playing for fun aren't mutually exclusive.

If the system is going to revolve around skin based content that you have to pay for in order to have them, and can't use in-game currency to unlock, I would imagine the people who left Team Fortress 2 because of the economic updates would be upset about this update.

When the grinding consists of no actual visible progress than a number that goes up and down, mostly down. There is no fun there. There's no reason to play past the 10 matches and continue grinding cause NO ONE WILL EVER ACHIEVE TOP 500. Its' an impossible goal that requires dozens of won games, mostly done in pre-grouped with voice comm to even manage to get to it. When thats' all the ranked system has compared to other games in the same "grinding out games for rewards and also become the very best" fashion doing it much better where there's actual some form of tier progression where you actually do get some rewards for where you end up in the season, unlike Hearthstone and Overwatch where you either get to Rank 20/Top 500 and get your seasonal reward of Hearthstone cardback/Animated spray. Other games usually have something worth grinding for even if you aren't the top dog at the game.

The skin ideas are nice though, but I'm not going to spend a dime on a game thats' half finished. Looking forward to when the game is actually like HoTS at this point.

Also the spray literally just has a lighthouse moving and a water animation and that's it- I'm not saying I wouldn't mind having it myself because why not but in a game where you put your spray and spawn and forget about it for the rest of the match I'm not going to lose sleep over it- especially if I'm going to get a nearly identical spray anyway. Ontop of that you're still getting normal ass lootboxes and the icon as well as points building up to a gold weapon. If you're not having fun with the game anymore that's fine but if the only reason you're playing is because you wanna wave around a huge e-peen and have a single animated spray that 99% of the people won't notice then I think the games over for you in general. Specially because the overall progress you make ingame means jackshit to the MMR system. I'm annoyed you can't straight up buy them but again, just skins and you'll get them by playing, the problem is that it's such a short exclusivity window, 8th to the 22nd? Fuck of Blizzard.

I guess the main issue is that it has the dota effect. You're grinding out a number a arbitrary number that mostly will go down and it just frustrates you and just isn't worth effort. I'd rather have the tier progression, because at least I feel at home in Bronze.

I got to rank 55 and stopped because I'm highly competitive and I get toxic as all hell when I'm being told that I'm being graded. Back when that Sony Smash Bros game whatever came out I was number 1 worldwide for a good running of it and boy did that put a lot of pressure on me for a overall mediocre ass game- I can't imagine putting that much effort into a huge game like this, it would drive me nuts. I'm perfectly content at sitting at 55 and only playing Comp when my buddies ask me to help carry.

I literally do not play enough of this game to earn 90 non-dupe items through "special loot boxes," and I play it every single day. Jesus Christ what a mess.

I'm glad I stocked up on crates for this occasion though, hopefully I get the D.va one.

Would've been perfectly content with Limited Edition Summer Lootboxes as long as you could buy the stuff with coins, and the items didn't count toward the "x/55" bars in the Hero Gallery that Blizzard obviously put there to make whales want to fill up But they probably realized they were being too generous with the ingame currency in this [I]$40 retail videogame that isn't even three months old[/I]
