Unpopular opinion but imo Legion run is actually pretty interesting already, but only as a 2nd playthrough. There's a pretty significant overlap between the NCR/Independent/House campaigns but siding with the Legion practically unlocks a quarter of the game that's usually locked off. It's just kind of interesting to see a regular quest get completely flipped on its head because now you get to do it Legion-style. Maybe familiarity breeds contempt but I probably enjoyed my Legion playthrough more than the others.
The problem is there's quite a lack of content and justification for them and it's only interesting if you'd played the game 100 times and need something new.
I also would have liked to see more interaction with Legion characters. Caesar admires the Courier on some levels and (as long as you don't fuck up) he'll typically treat you with respect. Everyone else on the other hand is a begrudging exposition dump or kind of an asshole. It'd be more interesting to see the dynamic with Caesar applied to the rest of the Legion. As you progress they come to see your value to the Legion and your skills as a warrior or whatever and look to you as an equal. It'd be like an MGSV spin-off where you instead you play as BB/Kaz/Ocelot's best friend.

also the Legion boss battle literally broke for me the scripting for that level is literally fucking bonkers in how bad it is
I ended up fixing it but if the same problem happened to me on consoles I'd be fucked
I picked the Legion for my first run ever of New Vegas and got royally fucked because if you go through their quests a bit too quickly you easily get locked out a lot of shit, since the NCR and the Strip both cover a lot more ground than the Legion.
I literally never got the legion boss battle to work, I had to do the diplomatic ending regardless because it was the only way to bypass the broken boss.

this explains so much
Unpopular opinion too, but I totally don't mind that legion runs lock you out of so much of the games content. In fact, I would have preferred it if the other three routes locked you out of more content for faction reasons. Not so much that the game ceases to be an proper open world RPG, but enough so that you feel your NCR and your House characters both had radically different experiences.
It gives you a waaay better sense of player character identity in the world, and encourages replays. I've never liked the trend of giving the player access to everything in one play through, lest they complain they missed out on content, or developers fear that players wont see their content.

I don't think that's unpopular. Legion should lock you out from a lot of things: they don't operate in the Mojave yet, and people don't like them. You can't go around saying to everyone "hey ave caesar let me help you with stuff" and expect it to work.
The problem with the Legion is that the legion part of the game is not fully developed. Would love to see more of the camp, more of the legion controlled cities, that stuff. The way you actually handle quests in the Mojave for them and how you can't do much for anyone else if you pick them is fine to me.

As far as I'm aware, having content locked away from you in an open world RPG hasn't been a popular trend for a while. Although most people do agree legion should lock you out of stuff, it's also a common complaint about the legion runs. This could be just because of the general lack of content as well, though.

The biggest problem is that you get locked out from so many quests and you don't quite have anything else to replace all that xp you lose. If you decide to be fully commited to the legion you can help anthony, vulpes, fight in the arena and pretty much nothing else but follow the main quest. No legionaire companion, no major legion areas to compensate all the hostility you get everywhere else, doing a legion run is basically speedrunning new vegas because there's so little to do.

Well, not really. The only places you didn't have as the Legion were NCR populated ones, not counting the Strip since that's technically neutral ground. So the only places you were really locked out of were the "Camps" and Ranger Stations. Still, a handful of quests get lost but a lot of them either have a Legion method or can be started via other means.
And technically they didn't completely lock you out of things since disguises were supposed to allow you to slip into most public areas. And it did work for the most part actually, it's just that disguises were kind of uncomfortable and no one used them.

Well, not really. The only places you didn't have as the Legion were NCR populated ones, not counting the Strip since that's technically neutral ground. So the only places you didn't have were Mojave Outpost (could still do everything there in the early game), Sharecropper farms, Helios One (NCR hostile but quest can still be done), Boulder City (same deal with Mojave Outpost), and all the "Camps" and Ranger Stations were unavailable. Still a handful of quests get lost but a lot of them either have a Legion method or can be started via other means.
From a 'gaming' perspective you weren't truly locked out but from a roleplaying view you totally were. "Sure, i agree with the ideals of the mighty caesar, however i will don a disguise and help Major Dhatri kill some fiends that are giving them trouble because i totally want that xp"
I like how that quest Vulpes ask you was handled, for example. You go help the legion spy that is being bothered by the Omertas at Vault 21, but she's not really a legion spy. She thinks she's helping the NCR because she's passing information to Curtis, the Legion mole in McCarran. It was a clever way of giving you something Legion related to do in the Strip which would be very "unlegionwise" to have quests for them there.
And "only NCR populated places" is pretty much most of the Mojave, you know. The Legion has no substantial presence in westside/freeside/strip which are the major neutral areas in the game. All that is truly left is Primm, Novac and Jacobstown and the last has very little to do by itself. And Primm and Novac even have NCR presence on them, just not enough to keep you out of their quests.

Well actually you couldn't put on a disguise and do the Fiends quest since he can see through it actually :v:
And there's no hostile NCR soldiers in Westside or Freeside or the Strip to lock you out of there. They state somewhere that the Strip is neutral ground and you're actually required to go there for the Legion's MQ. Maybe the Embassy folks with kill you, but I've never tested it personally.
And a couple of the towns have quests you'll probably end up doing before you even get to the Strip or join the Legion. Mojave Outpost and Boulder City will be hostile but literally everything there is most likely going to be done by the player in the early game if they want to.
Well actually you couldn't put on a disguise and do the Fiends quest since he can see through your disguise.
The more you know. Never actually used the disguise mechanic and thought it wouldn't be noted, kudos to obsidian for the details though
And if i remember correctly you get attacked in the embassy if you blow the monorail, but i don't know if its because the NCR somehow know it was your fault or if it was a bug
All the stuff you talking about early game don't really count, though. You can't even be part of the legion by that point: all you can do for them is tell the Mojave Outpost about the legion attack like Vulpes tells you, but that's hardly being aligned with the Legion.
Really not that much can be accomplished with disguises outside of avoidance and stealth kills since any high ranking (cough questgivers cough) can typically see through your disguise, but maybe you can use them to get past the embassy and into Michael Angelo's and Vault 21?
Maybe I'll do another Legion run to try and see how much of the game you can actually do.

Never said those had Legion-aligned quests or methods to them, I just said you're not entirely locked out of those quests since you could complete them fairly early on. You'd either had to have missed the areas or instead decided to go out of your way to not complete them. It's all debatable though really.
So is Mod Organizer out of alpha and usable yet, or am I stuck using NMM for the time being?

Ive never been able to do a complete legion play through because I fucking hate everything they stand for, but while I was playing my legion guy I actually really enjoyed the exclusion- sneaking around the outskirts of towns I was so used to just strolling around- Knowing there was nothing in there for me but profligates I would eventually crush, only occasionally donning disguises to sneak behind enemy lines and serve ceaser's interests among the unsuspecting populace. I actually felt like part of a subversive invading force.
It made the war feel real, and gave a distinctive impression that you had picked a side. In fallout 4 you can run around doing quests for three separate factions at the same time, Working to destroy synths one minute, then helping replace a dude with a synth the next- right up until the moment your character decides he's bored of two of the factions and personally destroys them. In skyrim you can side with the empire, then stroll right up to ulfric stormcloak in full imperial armor and listen in to his battle plans any time you want- Or settle down and have kids in the capital city of your enemy.
Neither of them really capture the feeling that siding with one group has severely pissed off the others in the way new vegas does.
If anyone feels like it, could they playtest version 1.2 of my mod before I launch it? There's a new medium scope, damage has been pretty much doubled and other stuff has changed such as recoil, but the main thing is the new installer. I've never done one before and I need to know that it's adding the correct files to the correct places, so testing the different options (or just looking at the .xml file) would greatly help me out and save me a lot of time. Thanks!

Unfortunately not, the guy doing them sort of dropped off the radar. Should get them in at some point provided he gets in touch.
I'm struggling with scripting as well so the penalties aren't in unfortunately, and I don't have much more time to spend on the mod before I have to start doing other art things and effectively drop it.
Anyone who is handy with papyrus, please get in touch with me on the nexus haha (pls)
