Tbh I only hate Garvey because of the radiant quest bullshit, It's hard not to resent a character if every time you pass them they remind you of one of the game's shittier elements.
Tbh I only hate Garvey because of the radiant quest bullshit, It's hard not to resent a character if every time you pass them they remind you of one of the game's shittier elements.
I think that is understandable but I guess for me it just doesn't matter. Its a video-game and I can easily separate a character from a game mechanic. His writing isn't at fault for someone else's coding. [editline]21st June 2016[/editline]
They easily could've had the Minuteman quest bot been someone else (that wasn't also a companion). Actually, an even better solution might've been giving out the quests via Radio Freedom.
Honestly all they needed to two was two simple things, either A: It has a very big cool down (which it was meant to, but that failed obviously) B: (better) you ask him specifically for a mission like "Got any missions ready?"
I must be the only one here who likes Garvey. I think he's a totally fine character and I don't think he needs to be a bad guy or goofy or rough and tough to have a personality. He's a well meaning young man with a softer personality who joined something he thought would make a difference and after it all has fallen down, is pretty much ready to kill himself.
His background is alright, but imo the performance of Preston's voice actor is so underwhelming that it makes it all sound really bland.
His background is alright, but imo the performance of Preston's voice actor is so underwhelming that it makes it all sound really bland.
He literally never emotes and even when he does, it's so fucking bland right down to the choice of words let alone the VA direction. We either need a mod to neutralize him, or make him consistently chase after you wherever you are just to offer a quest.
Lucas has more personality and less tolerance for bullshittery. Infact even synths have more personality than Preston. I want to see a mod that just changes Preston's model to a garbage can with legs that can't attack or do anything but walk.
someone should make a mod that infects the wasteland with preston synths so you can literally hunt him down to extinction.
here's a really nice mod that makes it so your companions stay mainly ahead of you like dogmeat does, i find it pretty useful so my companions don't go missing when combat starts
His background is alright, but imo the performance of Preston's voice actor is so underwhelming that it makes it all sound really bland.
He could have been worse. He could have been generic heroic guy who's a badass and who just happens to be cool enough to help you out. Instead he's an emotional wreck who's in desperate need of a leading figure to keep himself afloat, making his blind trust in the sole survivor fairly dubious because it's clear he just wants to believe in someone, since he doesn't think himself a capable leader. At least that's what what I got from his backstory and what he tells you after having him around as a follower for long enough. Shame it's mostly obliterated by a bland as fuck performance on the VA's part. It's not even just bad-funny, tacky or campy voice acting, it's just bland and has about as much variation as a flatline on a heartbeat monitor. You can't be given a radiant quest that pops up on your list without specifically asking for them down at the station and later up at the prydwen. Guess they came up with that later down the line and didn't think of going back and fixing shit up with the minutemen.

Anyway, playing Fallout 3 on PC after having played it to death on the 360, mainly to avoid playing any more of Fallout 4 before The Big Playthrough when I have the money for DLC and the patches are finalised. With Children of the Wasteland and Wanderer's Edition, I can finally live my dream of taking heroin as a 10 year old girl. But other than that Wanderer's Edition makes the game hard as balls, and the added weapons and chem really throw me for a loop. I mostly just wanted slightly less jank on the shooting and got a whole bunch of stuff along with it, but there's still a lot of jank on the shooting. I never realised it until playing a game with halfway decent shooting. I'm not too big on the whole EXTREME SURVIVAL thing like some people are, but I often accidentally stumble onto such challenges and my stubborness prevents me from backing down the difficulty (too much, at least. I'm not a nutter). At least the toughness adds to the roleplay of being 10 and trying to find someone in a world full of raiders, Super Mutants, and other nasty things. Hopefully I can get over the hump and start kicking arse at level 10 or so.
So the "apology money" from the Fallout 4 fiasco on xbox just got deposited And i bought New Vegas with it This is a strange world
lmao is that a fucking dildo stuck up her vag
Just a spare fusion core. Need to save those 4 pounds.

I dont understand why they made it so hard to merge conveyor belts. It's making it very hard to make a scrooge-mcduck style pool of mini nukes.
lmao is that a fucking dildo stuck up her vag
That's just fucked up
That's just fucked up
Yknow you fucked up when even rastifan's calling you fucked up
personally i don't even use companions. It's like a permanent escort mission where you have to make sure that dumb motherfucker doesn't bite the dust and i assume stealth will be harder if anything i'd just use them as a meat shield like with the (fallout 3 companion spoiler) [sp]super mutant guy[/sp]

Also companions in power armor will actually try to take bullets for you, which is pretty neat.

If you really look for it, you might see an interesting mod, but mainly what you're gonna see is some skimpy female-only armor made by someone who clearly can't keep their hand out of their pants for more than two minutes. If there was a retexture of someone else's mod and a model from another game that doesn't fit the animations, it'd be spot on.

The last time I checked the only non waifu/sexual mod in that category was the gore overhaul but it seems to be a pretty good containment category for that type of stuff
Yeah, the VA's bland... but at least it's not raining.
I think Preston's voice acting performance highlights why fictional works usually stay away from very realistic personalities - because some people are just that bland and soft-spoken in reality.
welcome to porting non pbr to pbr
Yeah I assumed as much. I'm partly dreading having to learn PBR shit so that I can port my models into the game.
Like most other things in a game, this isn't a matter of making sense. It's about the setting. Fallout has a very specific kind of setting, and regardless of how much time passes lore-wise from the first game to any consequent iteration, the setting has to stay the same. A Fallout game where the third or forth generation after the war get their shit together and start rebuilding cities, having proper governments and services and maybe taking a broom to the fucking floor already will not be what we expect Fallout to be. It will be, what, science fiction rather than post apocalypse. New cities, new cultures, new music. That's not Fallout. Fallout is a world forever stuck in the aftermath of the moment the bombs fell. It's a world that needs to constantly remind you that it was all 50s retro-future Americana, and what a contrast it is to the current Mad-Max atomic post apocalypse it is now. The skeletons slumped in ruined diners have to be there forever, or there will be less to remind you that THIS IS ALL BECAUSE THE BOMBS FELL HERE AND KILLED ELL THOSE 50s PEOPLE! POST APOCALYPSE! This is the exact same reason most fantasy worlds can make it through thousands of years of history without having an industrial revolution or making it out of the feudal system. It would make for interesting worlds, but it won't be fantasy anymore. They probably won't be able to keep it up forever. We're quickly approaching the point where it becomes ridiculous. How long are the wastlanders going to wait before they figure out brooms? Another decade? Another century? Eventually Beth will have to do something. Anything. I'm thinking reboot.
...Dude, what?
It will be, what, science fiction rather than post apocalypse.
1.) It's post-postapocalypse, and 2.) those aren't mutually exclusive.
This is the exact same reason most fantasy worlds can make it through thousands of years of history without having an industrial revolution or making it out of the feudal system. It would make for interesting worlds, but it won't be fantasy anymore.
I don't understand this need to remain within a strictly defined genre. And besides, medieval stasis is a downright cancerous trope.
They probably won't be able to keep it up forever. We're quickly approaching the point where it becomes ridiculous.
Alright, well I can agree with this. It's already sort of ridiculous when you consider what I mentioned a few pages ago; it wouldn't be so much of a problem if Bethesda didn't absolutely insist on advancing the timeline every time. If they were able to get their heads out of their asses on that policy and just set game after game in different areas at the same time (like one in Denver in 2277, one in New Orleans in 2277, one in Chicago in 2277, etc.) then they wouldn't have to faff about with this problem. I don't think they need to reboot either, just not be so fricking dogmatic.
Fallout 4 companions are essential. Also companions in power armor will actually try to take bullets for you, which is pretty neat.
i personally prefer robots.
is there any way to put doors on pre-existing structures like the red rocket gas station?
is there any way to put doors on pre-existing structures like the red rocket gas station?
The place anywhere mods work well for this
I'm doing main quests right now and I'm kinda bored by it Is the Far Harbor dlc any fun?
Neat a mod that basically makes manufacturing less shit Manufacturing Extended - Nexus
I've built a whole factory just so I can chop up settlers and other creatures that I don't like, and process the materials to make ammo (I wish I could make mini-nukes, btw). I've tried processing human meat to something else, but I don't see any recipes that require it. Then my game crashed, and I forgot to save. Damn.
I'm doing main quests right now and I'm kinda bored by it Is the Far Harbor dlc any fun?
Better than what the MQ usually has to offer.
I'm doing main quests right now and I'm kinda bored by it Is the Far Harbor dlc any fun?
It's in general of higher quality than some of the main quests, but if you're bored by the nature of the quests (ie they're all shooting galleries) in the main quest, far harbor doesn't deviate much from it.
