also, what're the best tech mods? i wanna build some machines rather than just building a sort-of empty base
Depends on what you want. Thermal Expansion/Foundation is pretty easy to get into, EnderIO is my personal favorite, Mekanism is cool, Applied Energistics is a lot of fun, the quarry from Buildcraft is a staple for midgame mass resource gathering, Big Reactors is a nice though kinda OP way to generate a lot of power, the list goes on and on.
anybody got much experience with custom NPCs? trying to throw together an RPG-type thing

this mod's kinda cool, figured out the basics of it but i don't like the skins it comes with
i don't get why so many female skins in minecraft seem to require anime eyes
I play a ton with customnpcs, a good way to get skins is simply using player names as skins. Theres an option for skins where you can switch it to player name which you can than use a player skin database (http://mcskinsearch.com/browse/309) and it will use whoever skin you put the name too. For example, if you put your own name, your skin will pop up on the npc.

There is a pather tool that you can use which, if you put the moving options to moving path, allow you to put waypoints.

how do I actually make the npc walk the path? i put in some waypoints and they aren't moving
maybe there's some other option to trigger too?

Under AI look for a button named movement and under that it will have its moving type be standing, click it twice and it should be Moving Path instead. Your pather should now work.

First village I've been working on for a little RPG, containing a few basic buildings, a windmill and a dock. I'm going to flesh out the vague storyline once I've got this mod to a tee.

does anybody know if there's a way to test a quest and reset it with customNPCs?

You can make the quest repeatable under its various settings.
You can make the quest repeatable under its various settings.
oh, okay, I just wonder what'll stay and what'll disappear after I test it
i'm guessing players are supposed to go through the quests in adventure mode to prevent them from breaking things and placing things?
I feel like minecraft had so much potential in terms of modding/being an engine for people to build their own games on, like GMod basically is, and they blew it because the community either moved on or became fractured into different mods. I mean like FTB is still on 1.7.2 and some are on 1.6.x etc.

That really only has to do with Mojang changing how the game runs resulting in the people making Forge having more work to do, and making it stable is a completely different thing they have to do as well.

The newer FTB packs are 1.7.10. And by 'newer' I mean like all of the ones released in the past year, probably longer.
IIRC Minecraft hasn't moved past 1.7.10 because 1.8 did some really stupid things code wise that makes modding more difficult and that will mostly be reverted in 1.9.

I didn't know they were reverting it back to 1.7.10, where'd ya hear that from?
oh man, i've been getting back in to mc lately, it's fun to have a time sink. what's the most popular fp vanilla server right now? i loved pred's server a while back and profan's server a few years ago.

Considering it's been 288 days since 1.8, I wouldn't hold my breath on 1.9.

It's been a while honestly since I heard, not really so much that they are reverting back to 1.7.10 just unfucking their code.

Looks like an endermen village, and some kind of crystal structures? There are dots in some of the crystal blocks, maybe some kind of fruit?
A friend of mine from 2b2t sent me pictures of my base.

Quick Story:
The original founder was Flamereaper66, he invited me to his mushroom island(He entitled 'The Shroom') summer of 2012. I developed the quirky building style of the houses to fit the mushroom island theme.
It's cool to see that it's still up and living after 3 years, even though all of it's inhabitants are effectively gone permanently. This place will exist until the end of 2b2t.
Here's the invitation:

Ugh, for the life of me I can't get Shaders to work on 1.8, neither the Forge version or the standalone, even if it shows up in the menu, the shaders just... don't do anything.
