DK2 Orders Halted? Yup.

DK1 went "sold out" less than a month before DK2 preorders went live, if I remember correctly. I'd bet November's going to be a good month for VR. :)
I think i might be loosing my shit right now.
Wait, does that mean the Rift might be releasing for the Holidays?
I would love it if they could push the release date, after all manufacturing is well under way. A pre-Christmas release would be a killer sale for them. But uhhh, stock. Yeh.
Wait, does that mean the Rift might be releasing for the Holidays?
No, it just means that there is speculation that preorders might start next month.
I honestly don't know what to do when Rift preorders open. I genuinely think it's a mistake to buy a VR headset without hand-tracked controllers, and with Touch not coming out at release I just can't commit to a Rift when the consumer Vive could be vastly superior in both hardware and controllers, and only a few months behind... Damnit world!
buying a dk2 at this point would be pretty dumb anyways
Well the thing is, my apartment is pretty small, so paying a premium price for the Vive and its laser tracking would be a complete waste of money. I'll get the Rift, set up the two tracking cameras to face my sofa (once they come out later) and basically use that ~2-3 metre tracking area for whatever. And the Touch controllers are way better than the Vive's wands in the first place, so it's not really a contest for me. I can handle playing on an xbox controller for a month while they work on releasing the Touches.
Touch controllers are way better than the Vive's wands in the first place, so it's not really a contest for me.
except we haven't seen the finalized vive controllers yet, which are confirmed to be smaller/more comfortable
the steam controller is pretty amazing, so the vive controllers are going to be a tough competition surely
the steam controller is pretty amazing, so the vive controllers are going to be a tough competition surely
There are tons of people who dislike it though.
the steam controller is pretty amazing, so the vive controllers are going to be a tough competition surely
i find it horrible i was a sucker for the marketing gimmick shooter games are unplayable on the steam controller
shooter games
That's your problem. Shooters are awful on any and all controllers. If you want precision, use a mouse.
That's your problem. Shooters are awful on any and all controllers. If you want precision, use a mouse.
I really think it's just a matter of getting used to the trackpad + gyro. I occasionally get some nice direct hit rockets in TF2 but other than that I'm just flailing around because I haven't gotten used to the controllers yet.
That's your problem. Shooters are awful on any and all controllers. If you want precision, use a mouse.
hence marketing gimmick they marketed it as though it were precise enough to play FPS games with
Well, as with anything that requires accuracy, you have to meet them half way have you considered the possibility that you're just bad at it?
Well, as with anything that requires accuracy, you have to meet them half way have you considered the possibility that you're just bad at it?
i've considered the possibility that i should ask steam support for a return/swap it jitters around like crazy on thumb contact; it may be defective
Oh, yeah that does sound defective. I haven't heard any other reports of that problem.
i've considered the possibility that i should ask steam support for a return/swap it jitters around like crazy on thumb contact; it may be defective
You sure those aren't the gyro controls?
You sure those aren't the gyro controls?
Positive. Sensitivity is all whack no matter how you set it, and looking around is a huge pain with it not doing what it should. Gyro controls suck too due to dead zones of rotation; diagonal rotations are wonk because controller tilt isn't accounted for in the software. Similarly, the thumbpad is unnatural in that a sideways thumb movement isn't a sideways action in the software; the input field isn't rotated to the angle your thumb takes. Bad design decisions.
I thought there was a way to change the angle of a sideways swipe on the thumb pad. Could have sworn that was a feature.
There are tons of people who dislike it though.
there are tons of people who hate the touch as well I'm sure.
hence marketing gimmick they marketed it as though it were precise enough to play FPS games with
I've played multiple FPS's with it with zero problems
Positive. What game would you recommend for a good experience? Portal 2 was a disaster for me. [editline]23rd October 2015[/editline] @steamcontroller [editline]23rd October 2015[/editline] has anyone tried the steam controller with DK2 games? How might the gyroscope be useful, if not nauseating, to augment the user's head as a camera? Could it be useful for racing or flight purposes?

Kinda awkward, and absolutely in no way should be compared to mice of course, but for 'medium ranged combat' its quite nice. you just have to remember to configure it in big picture - manage controller etc

You have to spend a while tinkering to make it useful and advantageous. I've gotten mine to the point where the touchpad combined with gyro controls is more accurate at aiming than with my mouse in FPS games (except if I have to turn around quickly). It's by no means a gimmick and it's a very incredibly powerful tool. Valve's been really supportive and adding new tools to change the control scheme everyday in the client beta.
I thought there was a way to change the angle of a sideways swipe on the thumb pad. Could have sworn that was a feature.
"Rotation" is a feature but idk, it feels funny to me

Having neither a DK2 nor a Steam controller, I can't say either way whether this is true or bullshit.
certainly feels like clickbait given that sickness isn't a huge issue in the dk2 to begin with [editline]23rd October 2015[/editline] he doesn't even play the game he just stumbles around a patch of grass
it jitters around like crazy on thumb contact; it may be defective
I had the same thing when I first got it. I went into big picture and it updated the firmware and after that everything was fine.
