rock band is going to catch a lot of mainstream gamers, as expected from an announcement at TGA
guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks to hear about the more hardcore games
rock band is going to catch a lot of mainstream gamers, as expected from an announcement at TGA
it's not though because music games are a dead genre
they had their hayday in 2007-2010
Actually, music games are making a comeback. The market's totally desaturated right now, but there is consumer demand.
rockband seemed to tank a bit with their latest entry, worried that may have shaken up future interest in the genre for a bit
IMO music games died because people played them with most of the iconic songs and they got tired of playing basically the same game with progressively less interesting music. I'd probably buy another music game if it had a solid initial track list and fairly priced song expansions. I really don't know if VR will really add to the experience though, I typically played it as a party game and that would be a bit weird for VR
well another thing is too is that bringing to vr literally does nothing
you would play in a room before, look around see your friends, look at the tv to see the virtual audience. and seeing the virtual audience isn't that exciting, it won't be in vr either.

it just isn't terribly innovative

I'd still play it probably.
Better than Guitar Hero: Live, which is just a bunch of live action videos that fade in and out of each other showing different audience and band reactions depending on how you do.
I'd play music games if they weren't anime themed.
Actually, music games are making a comeback. The market's totally desaturated right now, but there is consumer demand.
Guitar Hero Live was heavily discounted less than a month after release.
how can you see your instrument when you play in VR, I mean your hands, how can you see them?
how can you see your instrument when you play in VR, I mean your hands, how can you see them?
Well in the video they stuck a touch controller on the end of the guitar, which I thought was a joke but might actually be legit. I doubt you'll be able to see your hands.
so yea people are saying you don't need a lot of space for the vive.. okay i get that
but you still have expensive tv's and shit, swinging around with your arms, something is bound to happen
still my main concern
That's what Chaperone is for.
Rock band doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but if it puts VR further into the mainstream in a positive way, then I'm all for it.
I remember years ago when people were thinking about VR games, rock band was one of the prime candidates
I remember years ago when people were thinking about VR games, rock band was one of the prime candidates
why? what does VR add to a rock band game? a crowd?
you dont play a rock band game to be immersed, you play them because they are a fun challange with a group
I'd play music games if they weren't anime themed.
Well I mean aside from the big ones like rock band and guitar hero which are obviously not anime themed, stuff like osu may have big anime communities in them because they were designed off anime games but all you have to do is go to the song listing and tick "English" and turn off some settings and bam, anime banished. Can be kinda hard finding songs you like with good maps made for them, though.

Pretty much this, have never had the slightest attention on the crowd, it was all about the challenge for me as well.

Are you kidding me? I always thought it'd be awesome to play rock band VR. I mean, that way you sort of get to play on a big fucking stage and it's somewhat immersive, it just seemed pretty cool. Then again, I never really cared about the 'challenge' of rock band games... Why? Other challenging games are much more fun imo.
why? what does VR add to a rock band game?
the ability to play the game without standing/sitting perfectly forward without ever moving your head
moving while 'playing' music is much more fun than not
I guess I've always seen rock band as a party game or a game to play with a group of friends in person, like smash bros or mario party
its not really a game I would consider playing by myself

i almost exclusively played it by myself, it was fun going up those leaderboards all those years

You won't be playing it by yourself though, you'll be playing it in VR multiplayer with a bunch of other people
You won't be playing it by yourself though, you'll be playing it in VR multiplayer with a bunch of other people
I mean rock band has had multiplayer for a while now
I meant I wouldnt really play it without other people physically present in the room with me
That's kinda the thing with VR, the people are physically present with you in the virtual world :v: it's just one of those paradigm shift things.
oh man, orchestra hero
100+ players
You won't be playing it by yourself though, you'll be playing it in VR multiplayer with a bunch of other people
multiplayer wasn't confirmed
Got to admire Palmer for consistently diving into /r/pcmasterrace to put out yet another bullshit-fueled fire about Oculus-exclusive game titles.

Or like, move the TV for a little while so you can use the Vive????
Or just position the lighthouse beacon/use chaperone in such a way that the TV gets some extra buffer space in the play area

Legitimately don't understand what there is to be angry about here. This is a new technology that's still in its formative years. It's being invented right in front of our eyes. Different people are currently trying out different things and inventing different technologies to solve different problems in different ways, because this is such a new tech and nobody knows what the right answers are yet.
So Oculus is releasing a game that leverages technologies that they specifically worked on, and noted that it's currently economically and technologically unfeasible to attempt to make software tailored for their platform work as well as it does for them on a competing platform which, again, has different engineers trying different solutions to different problems.
What's so unreasonable about this? This is the point of competition. To decide what works and what doesn't. It's too early to decide on a universal industry-wide spec. Faulting Oculus for not jumping the gun and dropping potentially game-changing features and technology so that their competitors can use it too is just being childish and unreasonable.
