so yea people are saying you don't need a lot of space for the vive.. okay i get that but you still have expensive tv's and shit, swinging around with your arms, something is bound to happen still my main concern
All you need is arm room Don't play within arm's reach of your tv, problem solved [editline]5th December 2015[/editline] Music games are pretty dead but I do think VR music games would be fun, especially with the hand motion control. It would definitely make, say, drumming in Rock Band POTENTIALLY a lot more interesting than paying for one of those 4-head drumkits that cost $100
Legitimately don't understand what there is to be angry about here. This is a new technology that's still in its formative years. It's being invented right in front of our eyes. Different people are currently trying out different things and inventing different technologies to solve different problems in different ways, because this is such a new tech and nobody knows what the right answers are yet. So Oculus is releasing a game that leverages technologies that they specifically worked on, and noted that it's currently economically and technologically unfeasible to attempt to make software tailored for their platform work as well as it does for them on a competing platform which, again, has different engineers trying different solutions to different problems. What's so unreasonable about this? This is the point of competition. To decide what works and what doesn't. It's too early to decide on a universal industry-wide spec. Faulting Oculus for not jumping the gun and dropping potentially game-changing features and technology so that their competitors can use it too is just being childish and unreasonable.
I think my only issue with it is that I (or anyone else) would be dropping $350 into a product that I'm not sure will be supported in the future. But I guess that's the risk when VR is still so new.
Lot of PSVR news on the Playstation Experience stream. There's also a Psychonauts VR title in the works (funded by Sony, separate from the current Psychonauts 2 kickstarter). Very familiar image :v: Edit: ACE COMBAT 7 for PSVR is a thing.
I think my only issue with it is that I (or anyone else) would be dropping $350 into a product that I'm not sure will be supported in the future.
Like.... every videogame console, cell phone etc. ever? [editline]5th December 2015[/editline]
Legitimately don't understand what there is to be angry about here.
Reddit has a massive erection for being angry at anything even remotely closed or proprietary. See any thread about ISPs, copyright or government (law enforcement, NSA) just to name a few.
Like.... every videogame console, cell phone etc. ever?
Consoles and cellphones have basic features and control schemes that have been around for a while. VR is still pretty new with how they want to implement control schemes so it's not the same thing.
I'm thinking of a 980ti for use with a vive and games like Elite Dangerous, considering ED has announced that their minimum specs for VR include a 980, I wonder how that will do...

i'm looking forward to the new generation of nVidia cards next year which will make 980's look like toys and should really have no problem with VR
i'm looking forward to the new generation of nVidia cards next year which will make 980's look like toys and should really have no problem with VR
I seriously doubt anything's going to make 980s look like toys that isn't an x80 equivalent, and even then it's only going to be a 15-20% performance increase across the board, like every other Nvidia upgrade cycle in the past decade. Graphics card technology is iterative, not magical. It plods along slowly.

And what I'm saying is we're more than likely going to see more than 20% this generation. When I said 'look like toys', I mean that for the same price as a 980 was, we're going to have a card with 40%+ performance over it.

HBM2 memory compared to GDDR5 theoretically will murder the previous generations for performance.
Someone on Reddit rounded up the amount of announced Playstation VR titles so far (even excluding ones that aren't sure to be full games yet):
100ft Robot Golf Ace Combat 7 Aquarian Evol ARK Survival Evolved Battlezone Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 DriveClub Eagle Flight Earthlight Eclipse EVE Valkyrie Faceted Flight Fated Futuridium VR Ghost Machine Golf GNOG Godling Golem Gran Turismo Sport Harmonix Music VR Headmaster Heavensward Final Fantasy XIV Holodance Impulse Gear Joysound VR Jurassic Encounter Loading Human Lucid Trips Megaton Rainfall Modern Zombie Taxi Co. Think about Tekken being on that list. It's not 51 VR games its 51 games with VR functionality. still a big list tho
idk. def wait to buy until after you have your headset tho
Then I'll have to wait until after I have my headset to build the new PC I'm planning.
Anyone got any ETA for the general release for the more common VR headsets? I'm guessing the common ones will be Occulus(Q1 2016?) and Valve/HTC I would really love to try VR but don't want a dev versions - I always buy into these things got 3D when it first came out also

Oculus CV is supposed to be Q1 2016 full release, with the Touch controllers and full-room tracking equipment soon after. Pre-orders were supposed to be this year IIRC. Given that we havent heard a single peep from either company about releases in quite some time, and the upcoming holiday, I'd wager that Vive's limited release and Oculus' pre-orders are probably gonna get pushed to early January.
What was the significance of Dec 8th again? I heard something Vive-related might be happening at that date but I forgot what.
Then I'll have to wait until after I have my headset to build the new PC I'm planning.
...yeah Prices will be a bit better then, plus we will all have a good idea of what vr actually needs.
Which is why I'm tossing my current 560ti into my new build until we know what's happening. An i7-4690k should be fine in the CPU department, but who knows where GPUs will go?
Finally got to properly try the HTC Vive (playing the Arizona Sunshine demo) while at Vertigo Games for a job interview. The hand controllers felt shockingly natural to use, had a lot of fun with it. Job interview went pretty well too so I hope I'll be selected for the 2nd interview round before the end of the year :) [editline]7th December 2015[/editline] Gameplay footage of Dreams for PSVR:
How much space do you guys have for VR? This pic is mine, I'm standing at where my PC is at the moment. Once I store the piano away, and push the bed, couch and nightstand further, I should have a reasonable area to walk around in. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1449516499.jpg[/t]
Around 2.0 x 1.5 m, although I'll probably take control over the living room for a day or two as soon as I get my Vive.

Interesting talk about VR from the CEO of Unity: Seems they're working on a VR-enabled version of the editor, which is awesome. They're also weary of big companies trying to lock down the platform like they did on mobile with app stores and such. I don't think Oculus wants to go down that route, question is if Facebook agrees in the long term.

Look it up if you havent. Basically you are Dr. Manhatten and your goal is to save the earth from Building destroying aliens. You have free range around the whole solar system, you can even apparently go out into space to find the alien homeworld and bring the fight straight to them.
