The Climb looks like fun but it really needs the touch controllers to be any worth playing.
Somewhat VR related https://www.rallytheworld.com/360stage/en/ Completely free Google Cardboard is being offered here, about 600 left so be fast. Offer only available to Europeans.

Fisto Also hey ziks I've got a steam controller now, are the vive controllers locked into that rather cramped configuration method where you have to run everything through steam? Also who do I yell at to allow gyro functionality to be toggled instead of purely hold-button-to-use
Rift requirements were bumped up. [t]http://i.imgur.com/GW8MkmW.png[/t] You now need 3 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 ports. Used to be just 2 USB 3.0 ports. Welp, time for a new mobo.

And hey, no need for a new mobo, just buy a PCI-e USB card. Unless you were already planning on upgrading for VR, of course. With all these game announcements recently, does anyone else feel like oculus is building up to something this weekend/next week around Christmas? If they're going to open preordwrs this year as planned, then they've certainly been building up the hype to do it soon

exciting
Oh shit, where did he post that? I realize it's Luckey, and, while an awesome guy, he has a tendency to overestimate (months not years(tm)), but I want to believe that it's happening soon.

As beacon said, exciting. Really looking forward to getting my hands on a full PC headset.

I have 4 usb 3.0 ports, but I hope the cables have a bit of length to them, because 2 are on the front of my computer and another 2 are on the back.
Do you not have an extra PCI slot for a USB expansion? Or alternatively, get a USB HUB.
well there's a pci express slot but the hardware is outdated anyway, i need to buy new everything pretty much
I need to get a new graphics card. But if preorders go up this month, then would it be reasonable to get an Oculus first and GPU later if I can get it as a christmas gift? Is it feasible to use the Oculus as a monitor simulation? AMD's next GPU lineup is estimated to come out the coming summer / 6-8 months from now.
interestingly, at 4:40, they have two guys "sharing" the same set of lighthouse beacons and not suffering from occlusion issues. I wonder how that works
For me, room scale seems like an absolutely amazing thing. But unless they can find a way to make it work for large scale movement, it's not going to go anywhere. Players will only want to play so many 'stuck in a room' simulators before they tire of it. You can theorize all you want about astral body or other movement methods as much as you want, but until you put those methods into the consumer's hands and have them tested and verified as contributing to a large-scale, compelling experience, it doesn't count for anything.
Honestly I like the approach one of the VR demos at PSX was doing Where you lean = where you move. Impressions seemed to imply that it felt really natural and worked well once you got used to it. One of the guys at Giant Bomb who was writing off VR games because of the "room simulator tech demo" problem said that experiencing this gave him more faith in it actually allowing full game experiences without overly gimmicky ways to move around.
Kind of hoping this can help sort out my dreadful lazy eye, my left eye is just fine; but the right one is always looking inwards. (Laser surgery is not an option for me) I HMDs will work with my eyes. All I wan't to do is sit in the cockpit of my A10C in DCS & marvel at the glory of technology.

In my experience almost every motherboard that wasn't on the top end in price only supported USB2 with the exception of one or two usb-3 exclusive ports. I guess I could get a USB3 PCI card. Is there any reason a USB hub wouldn't work for this?
Is there any reason a USB hub wouldn't work for this?
I dont see why not, IIRC the Touch package is supposed to come with one isnt it?

I have a 2GB 770 and a 3570k so I don't know if I could play the simplest of VR games until I wait for the upgrade or if a 970 is the absolute minimum required even for VR Minecraft. And I've just found 2 extra USB 3.0 ports on the back of my mobo, never seen those before. Sweet :poot:
My mobo only has 2 USB 3.0's. So I just have to hope that the Rift supports PCI expansion cards with 3.0's [editline]17th December 2015[/editline] Remember the HTC Vive Unbound event tonight at 1:30am GMT. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3x91vu/the_htcvive_unbound_stream/

Just a question, what's the real difference between the HTC Vive and the Occulus Rift? I've been looking back and forth between the two and I can't really make enough of a distinction between the two now that I've committed to the idea of buying one, and I'm trying to figure out which one would be better for my current setup.
