ye but there was a big announcement some time ago about it also, i forgot the gpu in my previous calculation... about $1200 for a computer that can handle it, and is a little bit futureproof yeah fuck that, i don't play any games anyway, i'll see if my 770 + 2500k can handle the simple vr applications
vive and rift both use low persistence, so does the PSVR
This price speculation is unnerving I guess better to stop warming up my hype engines and prepare to hibernate some more months.
tbh the price speculations sound dumb even a 4k monitor is maybe like 500$. And yeah sure VR has a LOT MORE to do with the tech around the screen inside it, and it does have a lot of extra stuff, but 700? idk MAN
is a 5 inch monitor really that expensive? i doubt it i honestly don't see what's expensive in the rift
is a 5 inch monitor really that expensive? i doubt it i honestly don't see what's expensive in the rift
shrinking technology and keeping it good is no cheap order small phone screens and monitors can look like trash magnified for the rift, and are often susceptible to burn-in really fast, destroying your unit
Also everything in the Rift being custom high tech parts just for this one device tends to have an effect
is a 5 inch monitor really that expensive? i doubt it i honestly don't see what's expensive in the rift
The cheapest 2k monitor on newegg is $210. It's 25" (so far less dense, which is much cheaper to produce), is made of far cheaper materials, and is /only/ a fixed stand monitor. Please try and be realistic, I was blown away when I first heard that the headsets were going to be ~$300, so I would not be anywhere close to surprised if they ended up being $650. Keep in mind that if they plan to leave development open, instead of charging for licensing to be a developer, they have to make money on the headset including covering the costs of research and development as well as the cost of manufacturing the headset, and shipping it.
my lg g3 has a 2560x1440 screen and it's $300 yeah 4k is a bit further off, but at that price, i don't think the screen is very different paying more for a screen with a gyro than a full computer? yeah no thanks

Again, size and quality are a huge difference in price. $650 is a pretty cheap computer anyhow and this is a very high end product

It is indeed small but it also probably should not be $300, I mean best buy is selling it for $400 now and it was supposedly pre-ordered for $800, and many places list $600 for initial price, which is not far off from what the rift might be. Phone prices are really hard to compare though because the price varies so much depending on how you obtained it.

there's a lot more to it than just the screen(s since there is one screen per eye)
and there's more to the screen than just the size, the rift's screen is custom made just for the rift, including features like global refresh and very high pixel fill ratio (to prevent SDE), which naturally jacks up the price
Also everything in the Rift being custom high tech parts just for this one device tends to have an effect
VR is super high end but I'm not entirely convinced it'd cost an arm and a leg, or an least, a decent computer in cost a decent gyro's and a small screen probably isn't too expensive either, as well as a camera? Can't be terribly steep. Once you have the ability to manufacture the custom parts they probably aren't too harsh but the biggest killer on it.
is a 5 inch monitor really that expensive? i doubt it i honestly don't see what's expensive in the rift
this is for a full 27 inch a 5" screen at even 1440 really can't be too expensive on its own so that sure isn't boosting the price up of course like I said, far more than the screen inside it. Hugely specialized parts.
what does a 27 inch screen have to do with the rift?? but yeah if it's custom made then the price is gonna be different
i want to mount a 27" screen to my head
this looks pretty cool: I wonder how the movement works, since it looks like the character is moving way further than a 15x15ft play space would allow. [editline]e[/editline] its a Vive/Touch title, btw

Can't wait for someone to get high and trip out in VR proper bad.
people have talked in the past about falling asleep in the Rift (DK1/2) and being freaked out when they woke up I for one cannot understand how anyone can fall asleep with something like that on their face, I personally have never felt the possibility with mine
