I like nixnax's ratings on my optimistic oculus posts throughout the thread. The thread's resident vive guy :v:
i prefer 3DHead thank you
[sp]i'm not getting either one i just think you're funny sometimes[/sp]
Will an Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.30GHz be enough to run it? I don't want to buy an Occulus just to be locked out of using it due to my cpu, and I wont have enough money to replace both my CPU and Mobo for a full year yet.
so glad i have a 4690K and a amd r9 390
Any i5 / i7 from the 2000 series and up is pretty much good to go really. Just make sure your GPU is up to the task.

just as in most games, or visually intensive applications, you're far more likely to be hampered by your GPU than your CPU.
in 5 years we'll be like "9200 in firestrike? lmao"
I was actually pretty interested in this, and went to download the 3DMark11 demo, and my graphics score ended up being something like 26000, so, yeah, five years is pretty big, although not as much as I expected, honestly.

Also they just compared the performance of that thing to 150 Macbook Pro :what:
Wait, what does this have to do with VR? Unless you're implying the use of those for VR, but if they do have the power of 150 Macbook Pros, isn't that overkill even for VR?

so my car can catch on fire?
so have they ever confirmed that games that oculus funds/supports like eve valkyrie only work on oculus.
because thats my main deciding factor between a oculus and a vive. if they force exclusivity im getting a vive so i can support the better standard.

Valkyrie was funded by Oculus and Sony, and thus all resources were focussed on supporting those headsets. OpenVR is still young and will need more time before it can become an all encompassing standard.
[editline]5th January 2016[/editline]
In the end, if CCP Games funds development of OpenVR support themselves, nobody's stopping them as far as we know. Palmer clearly stated the goal was to 'fund games into existence'. Not to actively fight the competition.
A bit late on the benchmark train

as much as I hate people who use "kek" as a reaction to things, that's all that comes to mind when I look at my PC score, "kek"
not like I had any illusion that this PC is anything but outdated rubbish
i was confused when i tried out the 3d mark cuz i was getting bad framerate
then i noticed nvidia's driver update disabled my sli again
edit:
guys i dont think im able to get a oculus

I got 8900 on [del]speedtest.net[/del] 3dmark, but little 2 minute test blurbs don't account for how my lil' i7-970's performance takes a hit while I'm doing a lot of render work
I suppose the plus side is I can pawn half my computer off to friends as upper end gaming equipment, even if at a big discount
Good to know my i5 4670k stock settings and gtx 980 sc will handle the rift fine.
Palmer about not announcing price until preorders

A ton of stuff? It seems more VR game announcements are coming.
Palmer seems like a really genuine and likable guy. Whether that's real or just him being maniacal enough to convince me he's genuinely nice, I don't know, but every time I read something he's said he just seems like the best person possible to be running Oculus.

ded
but i still haven't touched overclocking on my cpu, and a 980 could do

He's a big nerd that liked VR enough to start making his own headset prototypes, and then when people caught on he secured the backing of the only company that could endlessly pour money into his pet project until he got it right.
I'd say he's as genuine as we think he is.
got only 8800 for some reason despite my 970, but i'm not worried

They set up a GoFundMe (and paypal donation thingy) for WormSlayer, a moderator of the Oculus reddit and also developer on the Half Life 2 VR, since the guy is living in poverty. Guess what, Palmer Luckey himself donated. Such a nice guy.

hopefully it isn't a scam by whoever is actually taking the money
...but anyway, if he's in poverty, he surely doesn't have the $1,000 oculus-ready pc yet either... so the campaign's goal of ~$700 (currently raising ~$1,000) falls utterly short of actually using the oculus

They already linked his paypal account as well and the person that set up the gofundme page is another moderator, so I think he's fine :)
As for the pc, he's into programming and designing, so I guess that maybe his PC is good enough. If not, he's already gotten to €980 since I posted this here, so... AND he gets donations on paypal as well, I think he'll be alright.
So, anybody knows how much do we need to pay for consumer version preorder yet?
So, anybody knows how much do we need to pay for consumer version preorder yet?
Will be announced tomorrow (with lots of other information).

599 US dollars
Imagine Minecraft for VR
Hot dang
Now I can punch trees like in real life
Proper carrying case for CV1 is great news, I loved the case with the DK1 and I was sad it didn't come with DK2.
Core i7 4770K and a GTX970 managed to beat oculus recommended spec. Not by much though.

One thing I still can't understand is how immersive VR is (and the shitty demo I played didn't really help either). Is it just really good 3D or is it actually immersive, like... how real is it?

Well it doesn't have anything to do with VR, I was just hyped for any Pascal/VR stuff from that presentation and it turned out to be "Quick tutorial on how to make giant R/C cars woooo".
Btw when I said "yay" I actually meant to say "bleh" :vs:

It's 3D like how-you-perceive-the-world-3D. The moment you'll put on your first proper HMD, you'll know what everyone's talking about.
Guess my setup should do for now.
