takes a lot of getting used to, and doesn't feel right unless you spent some time customizing it for a game for a little while

it's ok, there's no shame in that score

best thing I've used, and it's replaced my mouse, but the first time you use it it's like
nothing will beat personal preference either way

It's really nice once you get used to it. I just got done playing Shadow of Mordor with it and I think it's the best way to play that particular game.

tbh the touch controller looks better than the vive ones possibly, but I think I'll stick to my steam controller. The vive controlls just... don't look right. which is quite opposite of what the steampad did for me
I do know the trackpads and software makes up for it, but gyro aiming + gesture control would be better imo. my steam controller already has trackpad + gyro aim combined. Joystick + gyro aiming would be no issue for me if it means I can fingerbang my guns

A gpu upgrade would be enough to run the oculus, yeah?
I'm debating whether to get the 970 or 980ti.
The 970 is half the price and i could just upgrade again when they announce the new series of graphics cards, if i really need it.
On the other hand, if i get the 980ti, i wouldn't have to upgrade.
If you're debating the 970, seriously consider an R9 390. It tends to slightly beat the 970 in benchmarks at a slightly lower price, and having twice the VRAM will be nice for the Oculus Rift which needs games to render at higher resolutions than standard desktop gaming. This comes at the cost at much higher power draw and heat output, and is, of course, AMD which you may or may not like.
AMD means no Shadowplay, which pretty much means "no deal" for me. :/
That said, I hope AMD makes a similar program.
What games are you guys looking forward to playing when the Oculus lands? I don't know what games are good or bad, it's kinda keeping me from considering buying.
There's a third party software called http://plays.tv/ you can use which is pretty much exactly the same as Shadowplay. Session record, save last x seconds, GPU hardware H.264 encoding, you name it. They bundle it in their Gaming Evolved app but it's available as a third party download if you don't like it, like me.
If it's as practical as Shadowplay, I may consider an AMD card.

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) also supports the nvenc hardware encoder. Plays.tv looks nice though...
But doesn't the hardware encoding require the card to support it? In which case nvidia is still the only current option.

I've had no issues with it for my daily tasks, I use it mostly for the save last x seconds feature for capturing those crazy moments that can't be planned. That said I've never used Shadowplay so you may want to disable Shadowplay, use this for a bit, and see if it's workable for you.

Yeah, it needs hardware H.264 support. Practically every modern GPU has this functionality, including Intel Integrated.

Guess not.

Also, keep an eye on the cooler height. A lot of AMD cards won't fit into slim or smaller builds, because they tend to have more tubes that stick out of the coolers. Nvidia cards are more consistent in their width.

no what do you mean "guess not"
that link proved you right
No mention of Intel Integrated and apparently some modern AMD cards don't support it (VCE may or may not be present).
Does anyone know what the max players per match in EVE Valkyrie is going to be? I've seen it stated as 5v5 in reviews, but hopefully that's just for the alpha..?
That just seems so pitiful for space battles!

Aren't there AI ships as well? And the scenery? I'd imagine 5v5 is going to feel plenty big enough when the world's exploding around you.

Hopefully :wavey:
Any ideas on the specific place to preorder, or is everyone just gonna F5 their website at 7:59?
Any ideas on the specific place to preorder, or is everyone just gonna F5 their website at 7:59?
I'm not going to bother F5ing it, I'll just preorder when it's convenient. It's not like I have to pay anything now, and I'll have an empty credit card when they actually charge, so I'll probably preorder sometime tomorrow afternoon.

https://shop.oculus.com
but given that we don't know the exact url, it's probably just safer to f5 https://www.oculus.com/en-us at 8:00.

Gives me a 404, so are people just speculating this is where it'll be?
Also, the page icon is the Facebook logo. whatashame.png

It's the URL that was found in the CSS of the Oculus homepage. The favicon is Facebook because right now the page isn't up, and it's being hosted on Facebook's CDN.

Pretty sure that's because the page otherwise would go down immediately when pre-orders open.

Being the space/sci-fi junkie that I am I can't wait to play Adr1ft and any other space game like Elite: Dangerous. Edge of nowhere seems like a cool game as well and I'm eager to play it despite having lovecraftian monsters instead of pew-pew lasers.

That's actually a pretty good idea I suppose.
Oh fuck I hope conversion rate does not kill my hype ;_;
