Just spent many hours showing off my DK2 + leap motion to my visiting sister and her husband.
I didn't realize until the end, but the entire time, my drive names were visible on the side of one of my monitors:
Billy
Erection
Hitler
Dildo
My D:\ -drive is called GAYMS and now I have a sudden urge to change it.
My D drive is named "A Really Big D" because it's 2TB in size
Not changing it ever
When I was in college doing a lab I named the D drive "She Wants The" so it appeared as "She Wants The (D:)" and my instructor went to sit down to use my station for a second and I just heard him bust out laughing.
Some info on Magic Leap from their new patents:
The system detects and maps a user's location which is uploaded to the cloud and constantly adjusting with the users movements. That way, any virtual content could be directed to fit within and interact with the user's environment.
For example, if someone is in the hospital, they could use Magic Leap's technology to create a tranquil beach setting around them. The system could retrieve data about a beach from the cloud, map the room and the objects in it, and then use those mapped coordinates to make the virtual environment fit into the real one as seamlessly as possible.

The user can see 3D-looking virtual objects and scenery downloaded from the cloud through the glasses, or they can send the real-life environment around them to another user, so the two feel like they're together.

Jump scares are cheap but the deep breaths and the sudden "YOLO" attitude are very relatable. :v:
What a terrible horror game. They could've used the Rift's immersive powers to build a terrifying atmosphere without jump scares.

Half the time what they were jumping at was clipping through the screen / not even visible anyway. I agree, terrible terrible looking game

So let me get this straight, the Magic Leap replicates your surroundings, but in an alternate reality? For example, if I'm in an empty parking garage, and there's a large support column infront of me, it will attempt to incorporate that into the environment - e.g. make it into a palm tree, on a beach? Am I getting this right or am I totally off?

According to the patents, yes. It probably uses depth-sensing very low latency cameras that create a point cloud of the the area you're in and then downloads fitting objects from their website thingy, and makes them seem completely real via the light-field technology. Whether it's good enough, nobody knows yet. But it's gotten so much funding and so many believers after trying the system out, that they very well might have gotten it right. It's going to happen someday, getting it right that is, so maybe it might just be magic leap.
I guess we'll find out in 2016 when the devkits come out.
Even though the idea seems relatively sound, their site makes it so hard to take seriously.

I bet nobody even bothered to put the proper lenses for each person in
I'm considering getting one. 350 is actually pretty reasonable considering what I'm going to get out of it, and I have the skills to actually develop for it too.
Man this is tempting.

Until they delay it to early 2016, in which case...
75 dollars shipping is a bit iffy though.
Ouuuuch.

Nope, still applies.
Firstly, take a look at this ebay "Virtual Reality 3D Stereoscopic Headset Oculus Rift DK2":

And also:
I was looking at this Dolphin emulator branch for VR (dolphin being the popular open source gamecube/wii emulator). It wasn't working properly for me, so I went to the developer's reddit profile to look at his latest posts and thereby find the appropriate thread to post my problem in.
It turns out he is an insane racist who thinks he is destined to avert the apocalypse.
A guy posts about how fortunate we are to be born to first world countries. Crazydev responds about how he would be a success no matter what environment he was born to.
Some quotes:
"No, what I am is an order of magnitude smarter and more rational than you and the 7 mindless sheep who upvoted you. What is it with reddit and moronic brainwashed leftists?"
"You can tell which infrastructure I personally developed that you rely on every day by looking at the little symbol next to my name."
(it's just a flair that identifies him as the dev of dolphinvr, a small buggy branch of dolphin)
"The reason African Americans have no grocery stores in their neighbourhoods is because they loot them, destroy them, and kill their proprietors."
"I was born just in time to avert several apocalypses and save the world from a terrible future. So no, I don't wish I was born later. Although currently I am failing to prevent any of them (and accidentally helped cause one of them), and we are running out of time before they become inevitable. Also, I'm kind of lazy, cowardly, and get distracted easily."

he's also 30something years old, so i can't just imagine he'll grow out of it

I dusted off my good old DK1 but it won't get detected by windows 8.1, help?

it looks...
boring
Why is there so much hate on the Affected horror experience video? It helps bring out the word to people that maybe normally wouldn't even know about the Oculus Rift and it's the perfect kind of (free) advertising the Oculus can get.

These kind of games work well in VR though. Slower pace, more time to soak in and explore the environment. I've had a similar experience playing Kairo and Q-beh 1 with the Rift.
And UE4 makes it look gorgeous.

that trailer tries to pass fancy lighting effects as dramatic action
it's just a simple puzzle game about moving blocks to advance some light along mirrors

A disdain for the people in the video who are total crybabies (who are overreacting because they're on camera). It's the same reason youtubers like pewdiepie get a lot of hate. We don't hate the video's effects, but it's such a shame that a low quality video like that is going to be a lot of people's first introduction to VR.
When I watched the Pneuma trailer, when it mentioned through the eyes of a god, I imagined having a game with rift/hand sim support where you are god up in the sky :v:
That'd be pretty sick though, look down through the clouds in a hole and see your empire, with a light brush of the hand you sweep some clouds away to get a better view

Yeah, but it doesn't even look that good, it's very simple. I could honestly make that in UE4.

I can too, given enough time and tutorials. But credit goes to the guys that actually do it right?

Yeah, they are overreacting, but these kind of channels prove that a lot of people like to watch people do that. Why do you all care about how people get introduced to VR? Getting the masses onboard is the best thing that can happen to VR and at this point it doesn't really matter how people get introduced to VR, as long as they actually do get introduced. We're not at a stage yet where we can be picky about how to expand the Oculus' popularity.
