I wonder if the i5-2500k's still suitable, or if it needs the 3% core speed increase of the 4950.
Some OC probably makes it somewhat same strength as un-clocked 4950.
What are the specs for the rift ready PC?
Chance of it being RGB stripe?
Chance of it being RGB stripe?
Somehow doubt it. Oculus is partnered with Samsung so pentile is the most likely.

Unless they asked for a custom display.

Palmer making replies on Reddit.
The idea that Oculus chose a low spec panel has no basis. The Rift uses the absolute best panels possible today, not only in resolution, but in every other spec as well. You probably wish display technology was a few years better (as I do), but this is the best that can be done today, and the optimizations we have made paid off - the Rift looks fantastic, even better than Crescent Bay.

(relating to why Oculus chose the 2160x1200 display) The reasons are vast, largely technical, and partially confidential. A 60hz rolling shutter display designed primarily for mobile phones has little in common with a 90hz+ global shutter display in a VR headset. Some of the reasons are directly related to frame rate and update methodology, some are entirely unrelated.
i know you just copied him but it's 4590 not 4950
More Palmer, some very interesting notes
Interesting note - extremely high frame rate gets you a sort of temporal anti-aliasing that substantially increases perceived resolution.

There is a resolution/persistence threshold for this to happen with micro-movement of the head as opposed to large rotations, CV1 hits it.

This makes a huge difference with content that is rendered at resolutions higher than the headset (movies in VR cinema, text layers, etc)

Ironically my biggest bottleneck is USB 3.0
My motherboard only has one USB 3.0 lol and literally nothing uses it. And my mobo is somewhat current
perhaps the motherboard has an input where you can hook up additional usb 3 ports? the hubs cost only like 10$ for 4 USB 3 ports, added in those removable expansion gates that you used to install your GPU

His motherboard probably has an internal USB 3.0 header too, so he can probably pick up an expander for that.

That's what I said
[editline]15th May 2015[/editline]
I think
I thought you were talking about PCI lanes. Which, there are those too, if you don't have an internal header.
didn't even know you could PCI it
seems like he definitely has options
Some gfycats that demonstrate the layers, layer-independent fps, and positional timewarp: http://www.gfycat.com/Whalefreezer/oculus_060
That extreme positional timewarp is trippy as fuck
So the specs came out and my card is basicly a 780ti it only has 3gb vram to 4gb 970 and my card only got hdmi 1.2 which mininum now is 1.3? does this mean it wont work for the 7xxx cards? My DK2 worked..

I'm preeeeety sure I could get some kind of PCI card that has USB 3.0 on it considering I have one hooked in that is just a USB 2.0 port expansion.

it means you can't get the 90 frames a second rendered to the screen, so you won't hit that supposed magic "presence" mark
I wonder if the 770 has 1.3? Can't check myself at the moment
I wonder if the 770 has 1.3? Can't check myself at the moment
According to this it supports 1.4a
1.4 came out 2009 so yepp. I guess 400 series is the first with 1.4
Question, I'm hyper interested in a HMD for use in simulators; But I got a bastard lazy eye.
(Its rather mundane now, just out of alignment and yet I can see perfectly without the use of glasses. Ain't used them for about 12 years now)
How would I fare with a HMD? Any predictions / ideas?

You'll probably see as you do in real life, but it wouldn't hurt to try it out before making any buying decisions.

There's a VR program to heal lazy eye. It's only in closed beta though.

Holy shit what
Why is this not in my life right now?
Will my i5-3570k be able to handle the rift?
Will my i5-3570k be able to handle the rift?
Yes it will. The specs are a guideline for devs and consumers. Actual performance will mostly depend on the software.

It's not really a stretch to think that Oculus might support the Lighthouse system too, especially since Valve is planning to open up the tech to everyone.
