It's like how people insist there's a difference between vinyl and a wav file, and that somehow vinyl is better.
Now them's fighting words, man. Seriously, though. I won't say vinyl sounds better, but it sounds different. The way it sounds is dependent not just on your sound card or the compression of the file, but on your entire hardware setup, from the stylus you use on your turntable to the tubes in your amp. It changes the music in interesting ways. Again, not technically better, but different.
It's like how people insist there's a difference between vinyl and a wav file, and that somehow vinyl is better.
You're wrong.
just bought a google cardboard v2 for my nexus 6, I've never experienced VR before any hidden gems on the app store or anything I should keep in mind while I wait up to 2 weeks for it to arrive?
Giantbomb sits down with Palmer, a developer for The Assembly, and a Project Morpheus guy to shoot the shit about VR. Lots of great discussion. Skip to 34 minutes in. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/giant-bomb-live-at-e3-2015-day-01/2300-10378/
Here's a question I've got... Has anyone figured out how to turn around in VR without having the issues with moving the camera independent of the head? How does that work so far, and does it work well?
Tested videos coming soon https://twitter.com/willsmith/status/611318988157521920 [editline]18th June 2015[/editline] Also, Kanye West visited the booth and tried out the latest VR, just kept repeating "super dope" over and over https://twitter.com/willsmith/status/611321930772164608
You're wrong.
In fact, let me elaborate on why you're wrong. And of course by elaborate I mean http://gizmodo.com/why-vinyl-is-the-only-worthwhile-way-to-own-music-1527750499

My record collection is the only music I actually own. It's so easy to get music for free from Spotify now that I never bother to buy anything digitally. If there's an album I really like, though, I pick up the record.

I think my old Nokia phone recorded sound like this
In fact, let me elaborate on why you're wrong. And of course by elaborate I mean http://gizmodo.com/why-vinyl-is-the-only-worthwhile-way-to-own-music-1527750499

To turn to vinyl, then, I don't buy the argument that the format is seeing a resurgence because people think it sounds better. There's an ongoing debate amongst audiophiles and scientists regarding the audio quality of digital vs analog music playback. Audiophiles claim that analog playback sounds better, even though this is scientifically untrue. According to science, a CD and a vinyl record being pulled from the same original material are mathematically identical.

:words:
Yeah, but you said there wasn't a difference between a WAV file and vinyl. There is. It just isn't a tangible one. It's an emotional one. Of course, if we're all soulless robots, then there's not a difference at all. But we're not.
To clarify, I'm talking about quality here. I get that there's a physical object that you own with vinyl.
To clarify, I'm talking about quality here. I get that there's a physical object that you own with vinyl.
Quality is a very subjective thing, though, isn't it? The two-version thing only deals in absolute mathematical comparisons, and only with the information itself. A lot happens to that information on its way to your speakers. Again, it's a different experience. It's not better. It's not worse. It's just different. And it's a terrible comparison to sunlight and a VR headset.
Natural sunlight is much brighter. Where light comes from is irrelevant. Screens don't emit "special" light that damages your eyes. And because of the lenses, for all intents and purposes, the screen IS far away.
Direct sunlight is certainly worse for your eyes than anything coming from a screen, even, there's a lot more than the visible spectrum the sun spits out and UV can actually damage your eyes. Thats just direct though, looking at sun lit things wouldnt do that.
accidentally opened google+ and
I got mugged while using the rift, sued and won the case, got 1m in compensation because my feelings were hurt
If I do get a rift I'll probably end up getting at least one more tracking camera down the line. [editline]18th June 2015[/editline]
quotes
I appear to have linked to the wrong article. So here you go. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question487.htm
It's not better. It's not worse.
My point exactly.
oh my god are you nerds actually talking about whats better, a wav or a vinyl in a thread about face-monitors If I wanted to watch nerds stroke off I'd join an audiophile forum
oh my god are you nerds actually talking about whats better, a wav or a vinyl in a thread about face-monitors If I wanted to watch nerds stroke off I'd join an audiophile forum
To be honest I think the nerd-level is pretty high when it comes to VR too, mate :v:
maybe if we gold plate the lenses it'll refresh faster
Japanese Pepsi commercial featuring VR, cuz why not
so this is what VR QuickTimeEvents look like
You know, I saw a record back during RSD this year, and the cover had a picture of someone wearing an Oculus Rift. I think it was The Future's Void by EMA. Here's a picture. [t]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91g6XzdlPgL._SL1500_.jpg[/t]

1080x1200 per eye, same as CB. Interesting.
Still have questions about the IPD slider. Is there a calibration scene for it? Do people slide it to the right position naturally (I expect not)? Also is the slider setting fed back to the software? Last one is very important for how each individual perceives scale in the virtual world. Also the finger gesture recognition isn't as profound as I thought, it's basically just discrete recognition whether your fingers are on the buttons, and assumes you're doing a gesture when they're not. But if it still works despite being so simple, it's cool enough.

And of course it will be fed back into the software.
One thing I noticed is that, in the video, they say you need two USB 3 ports for the headset and camera. That's putting me a step closer to rebuilding my PC, since I only have two. We'll see how it goes, I guess. EDIT: Actually, just remembered my motherboard's got an internal USB3 header, so I just need to find my front-panel port thing again.
