I'm pretty fucked, I'm going to have like 60 controllers by 2016 already preordered the steam controller now I have to get the Rift Touch and Grifta controller aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [editline]18th June 2015[/editline]
Japanese Pepsi commercial featuring VR, cuz why not
the power went out at the end in that big building how the hell is she going to find her way out

Finally got around to watching the Tested vid on CV1... Jesus Christ, my hype knows no bounds. The only thing that worries me is the lack of AAA launch titles for VR, unless Valve has some stuff cooked up that they're not talking about. Valkyrie seems really cool, and people have been saying that it's fucking incredible for a while now (especially since E3 started) but I'm not sure if it's enough.

They've apparently been working on Touch for 2 years now. Kept it under wraps pretty good.
They've apparently been working on Touch for 2 years now. Kept it under wraps pretty good.
Yeah, especially since he said that some developers have even had it that long, but nothing has leaked. It's impressive.
Also, the HoloLens devs admitted that the field of view will not get better in their CV1. Something about their display tech not being good enough yet. Guess I'll wait for Gen 2
So what about the Rive? I've only managed to find unboxing videos, but no videos of the shit actually in action.
The vive?

It's awesome enough that several big devs are investing some resources in small but high quality VR projects (like Crytek), or making their cockpit games compatible with VR (like Elite Dangerous, Euro Truck Sim and Star Citizen).
I'm glad all these companies see the value in VR so that they can try to make millions off their game being first. Remember the early days when oculus kept bringing celebrities and game executives in on video to try the DK1?
Hey guys, I'm extremely hyped for VR, and I can't wait to get my hands on a consumer kit when it comes out, but I totally haven't been paying attention on the news, different brands or products or anything. Instead of sifting through hours of videos, news articles and forum posts, I though I should just ask: What's the lay of the land in VR technology right now? When can we expect the first full release of consumer products, and what will be the "best" one? (subjective question, I know) I'm actually going to EGX in Birmingham this year, and there will be an Oculus Rift stand there. I can't WAIT to try it out!

Includes Xbox One controller (dev driven decision: want to make 100% sure every user has a controller). Separate new superior Oculus Touch controllers coming first half of 2016 but will probably take some time before devs make content for it. Minimum recommend PC specs for the Rift are quite high (Core i5 4590 and AMD R9 290 or Nvidia GTX 970). Valve's SteamVR system with the HTC Re Vive coming this holiday. The Rift and Vive HMD have similar specs. The difference is mainly in the tracking solution: Rift utilizes a camera and IR lights, while Valve created the Lighthouse system, a combination of laser beacons and light detectors on the tracked objects that result in a tracked space of about 5m by 4m. Sony Morpheus coming early 2016. Visual fidelity probably not on par with what the Rift and Vive will present, but much easier for consumers to pick up in combination with a PS4. No clear winners at the moment, the big players are doing pretty great. I should probably update the OP at some point. Most of their sales come from rehashing old games and IPs, and nostalgic gamers. They're not an innovative company. [editline]18th June 2015[/editline] Like there's absolutely no way in hell they're getting into VR when they still make mad dosh from mario games. They're gonna wait until the 2020s or something. For modern gaming PC + PS4 are the ways to go.
It will be interesting to see what the price difference between Vive and Rift will look like in the end if you want a "full VR experience" given that the Move(?) controllers and a second camera are separate for Rift.
Reviews on the "Star VR" are coming in. +No pixelation to speak of (Because 5K) +Massive field of view -No low persistence (blurry as shit) -60hz screen (again, shit) -No IPD adjustment (cross eyed feeling for many) -Incredibly heavy and uncomfortable (not surprising, the headset is massive)

For sure. The graphics card is what you should concentrate on the most. Also, Oculus turned away Polygon journalists from their E3 booth, lol. [editline]19th June 2015[/editline] https://twitter.com/crecenteb/status/611677941114630144

I wouldn't pin the virtual boy, an invention by a guy who (I believe???) is long dead on Reggie. I would call him out for saying it isn't social when splatoon doesn't have fucking voice chat and all nintendo related online social features since the Wii are still fucking crippled.

If he thinks it's not "social" enough get him on AltspaceVR or something
gyroscope aiming isn't innovative? Also there's no way Nintendo isn't going to jump right into VR. NX is going to be Super Virtual Boy just you wait
Well, gyro aiming was done before the Wii-U on PS Vita, in the Uncharted and Gravity Rush launch games. Probably was done even earlier on smartphones. The wireless second/off screen play using the Wii-U remote was done 6 years before with the PSP & PS3, and wasn't limited to local wifi (although it was pretty crappy because of PSP's crappy wifi, and almost no games supported it). The Wiimote is an extension of the NES Zapper which itself is from arcade lightgun games. [t]http://i.imgur.com/AOqDBV2.jpg[/t] Here's this morpheus game. It can supports 5 local players. The person wearing the headset sees from the perspective of the monster and controls it. Meanwhile, the system outputs an image to the TV like in the screenshot, and the other players control the robots using normal PS4 controllers to defeat the monster. It's kind of like Nintendo's asymmetrical multiplayer on some Wii U games where 1 player uses the tablet and the others use wiimotes.
