I hope they have a game lined up for the launch
well that's a big 'fuck you' to oculus ain't it
nope, just that the people who didn't get fired or left for abrash can beat valve time. But there can always be a hiccup, we will see.
kinda pissed at HTC went on saturday at SDCC "oh the line is an hour and a half for a 15 minute demo" "uh no thanks" went sunday to the HTC trailer "oh we're not showing the vive today, do u wanna look at the m9 though"
Which VR headset are you getting you think? and why?
Which VR headset are you getting you think? and why?
Personally, the HTC Vive for me. Why? because it's by HTC and Valve. It's out sooner, comes with motion track controllers by default (unlike oculus) Specs close to that of the oculus and it's not owned by facebook.

I'm just a bit worried on compatibility with games If they do exclusive shit and only make it so that Occulus or the Vive works with this game and so on
Its really gonna come down to price point for me. I like the full-room lighthouse stuff that the Vive has, and I think the Vive controllers look a little better (with trackpads and all that), but as we learn more about the potential room-sized positional tracking abilities of Oculus' optical sensor(s) and the abilities of the Oculus Touch, I could be swayed either way. I'm about as on-the-fence as it is possible to be.
What's the price on the vive?
I'm just a bit worried on compatibility with games If they do exclusive shit and only make it so that Occulus or the Vive works with this game and so on
this is also a major decision making point too, actually. The Vive is gonna get a lot of points in my book if Valve is making games for it, and Oculus is really gonna have to sell me with their game offerings if most VR games do end up being exclusives. [editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
What's the price on the vive?
I don't think we have confirmed prices for either HMD at the moment
Vive will be more expensive than the Rift, is the only thing we can be quite sure of.
Vive will be more expensive than the Rift, is the only thing we can be quite sure of.
The question is, will it be more expensive than the Rift + Touch + Number of optical sensors needed for a room-sized play space?
The question is, will it be more expensive than the Rift + Touch + Number of optical sensors needed for a room-sized play space?
I doubt it, and the headset will be of higher res I think
I'll wait until both are out to make a choice. No reason to have plans now.
I still have a hard time believing that it'll be coming out later this year. That'll really put the pressure on Oculus to deliver something worthwhile if they're not first. Are there are a lot of games being developed for SteamVR? Or even any current games that support it? Everything I've heard about that seems like it's in the early dev kit stage like Oculus was for the past couple years with lots of cool tech demos but no much in the way of real application. Personally I'm still planning on getting an Oculus eventually. Not at launch, but very likely sometime after. SteamVR's technical advantages just don't apply to me because I don't care for setting up a Kinect-like space to play. I just want to play my racing/flight games comfortably in my chair, and I know Oculus already has support for that stuff.
I've been following the Rift for 3 years so I'll get the CV1 that I've waited for all this time. I also feel it'll be more mainstream than the Vive when it comes to support and content. Plus they have so many big names working on it, and Facebook's backing, so I trust it will be better.
I've said it before. No sense in jumping ship when the one you set sail on is still doing fine. I'll most likely get a CV1. But I'm also waiting for both "final" consumer versions to come out and have a fair contest to see which one I should get. Comparing two Development kits isn't exactly the best way to determine the final outcome.
I want to just wait for oculus but I can see myself being dumb and buying both
I'm waiting until both are out so I can gauge the reaction and buy the better product.

We'll wait and see, as always!
Tbh I haven't really been liking valve a whole lot recently
I'm kinda worried about the Vive launch. HTC is used to really quick product concept-to-production cycles, but I wonder if it'd do this product any good. There will probably be volume issues at the start. Also developers have had waaaaay too little time to make anything substantial for the Vive (except for the select few that made the early Vive demo's, but those weren't large studios either).

Are we assuming what I think we're assuming here? Because that's a very dangerous assumption.

I'll see which is best and will buy it based on reactions and such too. However I should say that because I have been closely watching everything since the DK1, I am hoping the Rift ends up being the better product.
