totally wrong
if you focus on the distance, items infront of you are double-imaged, just like in reality
clarity also means matching focus to lock both eyes on a distance to eliminate this
in my DK2 i'm always changing focus to look at objects close by
I think he might be talking about the way the lens in your eye changes to focus on object distance.
Since everything's far in the Rift, your eye doesn't do that.

Exactly. You don't have to strain your eye muscles and compress your eye lens like you do in reality to watch things up close.
The fact items up close are double imaged is because of the parallax, you still have to point both your eyes at the object.
my point is that you still have to point your eyes at objects to get a completely clear view of them, but tangentially that depth can be inferred on the fly by contextual awareness and the distance separating the doubling of the image; vr isn't really missing anything by not being blurry

It's not a hugely important part of our vision (like I said, the parallax seems to be enough to give stereoscopic vision), but it is a part that VR doesn't simulate. I imagine that if they ever nail that in software, you'll get another one of those 'ah-ha' moments like when you first try VR and see what it's all about.

that's more an issue of the oculus sitting low when you booted the game up initially, like you were holding it at chest-level while it loaded, before putting it on. Put the oculus on, and hit the designated view reset key and it will center wherever your head rests naturally at the intended pilot's head position. All oculus games should have a set-default-viewpoint binding or there's lots of trouble to be had

Sup guys,
The company I work for bought a DK2, I managed to get them to let me borrow it for the weekend. I've been following the Oculus for a while but I've been out of the loop recently. What should I do first? I tried playing Rise of Flight yesterday and went though a bunch of hoops to get it to work. It didn't look to great and head tracking was horrible, though I imagine it was my configs.
TL;DR Where should I start with the DK2?

Gamescom is crowded as all hell from what I heard. Wonder what your chances are if you sign up at this point.
what is this game about ?

Tried out Vox Machinae and Windlands, they were fucking awesome, will try the other next.

Ah unfortunately I don't, heard of it but not entirely sure of what it is.
https://share.oculus.com/app/i-expect-you-to-die be sure to get this version

Spaceship simulator. Do you like being a space cowboy?
These night vision goggles work surprisingly well, they feel like they have 0 latency at ALL which I've never seen with consumer NVs before

what
what
I made a pair of night vision goggles because I needed them for a thing and had an oculus lying around
There's IR cameras on the front

how much were the IR cameras and lights?
how much were the IR cameras and lights?
The IR cameras are a leap motion (~70) and the lights were like three bucks each at my local hardware store.
[editline]26th July 2015[/editline]
It's also cool because you can detach your vision from your body, which I'm using this halloween for a headless horseman costume
The IR cameras are a leap motion (~70) and the lights were like three bucks each at my local hardware store.
FUUCKK... Never thought about doing that!
I mean, i've used the leap motion as a camera for the rift, but never trying detatching it.
Must be trippy. Gonna have to try it on monday.
I'd love to see about taking a vr headset with 2 cameras in front, and a half-second delay, and how that'll effect everything one does.

i swear some group did exactly this as a study, with the dk1
I'd love to see about taking a vr headset with 2 cameras in front, and a half-second delay, and how that'll effect everything one does.
It makes you super super fucking sick
source: I did it
But hell, I can get robot vision and stuff with this thing, and get digital zoom with my fucking EYES. I just need to program it first.

I remember one where they mounted a camera like the third-person view in a video game and gave a PS1-polygon-style outfit to wear while you walked around
Oh, I just remembered something that I forgot to tell anyone about. Someone at my university took a picture of a DK2 with their iphone camera (iphone 5s I think), and the IR LEDs showed up in the picture. Their friend's phone (same model) didn't have the LEDs show up. Does anyone know what that's about? Like can tiny cameras just pick up things outside the visible spectrum?
so now there is a studio recording porn from several cameras and allowing the viewer to walk around a "hologram" in 3d space
the result:
90s home greenscreen quality gifs

it can't be worse than the asinine 360 video spheres without head tracking

Everyone's clamouring about how VR porn is going to take off... but to be really honest, none of what I've seen so far is really any good. It's either creepy, stupidly awkward, or full of distracting visual artefacts. In the end I wonder if spatial immersion really does anything meaningful in porn.

Just One Dance is what proves to me the viability, but that demo is just a proof of concept that never got developed any further
