Are we doing this whole required specs thing again? Let's re-iterate. Released Oculus recommended specs: Intel Core i7 4590 Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD R9 290 GPU is most important. Pretty much every modern Intel CPU is fine since there's not a huge performance difference between each gen. These are target specs. They were made so that developers have something to aim for, that they know VR gamers will have. Doesn't mean every VR game will require it to run smoothly, some will probably do fine on lower-end hardware. The requirements to support the Rift hardware itself is probably nothing more than a free HDMI and USB port. Valve hasn't released any recommended specs for the Vive. But seeing as the refresh rate and resolution are similar, devs will probably target the same spec.
i5 2500k isn't a bottleneck though? The graphics card is way more important in VR than the CPU is, it won't have any problems whatsoever.
Well bottleneck in the sense that its the oldest/slowest part in my system now IDK if I really notice much slowdown. I'm pretty sure I can't get witcher running at 60FPS all the time for example and I suspect it might be due to that when I am in certain CPU heavy zones. Still 60FPS most of the time, worst case 40-45

That was the last major jump, it's been a steady 5-10% per release since then. Graphics are still by far the most important part, and PCI-E is compatible across processors, so you're fine. Overclock it to 4Ghz, it'll last until the next significant Intel redesign. As for the Witcher, it doesn't run remarkably well for anybody. With an i7 and a 980, you're only looking at an average of 58fps at 1080p on the highest settings.
More VR news for DCS. They've updated their VR code with the latest Oculus SDK and are continuing experimenting with the VIVE. There are still no promises for the VIVE, it's just experimentation for now. Wags' answer sounds like he's specifically addressing the Leap Motion. However, I do wonder how useful even Oculus Touch controllers would be for a flight sim. You'd think flipping switches would be a natural fit for the SteamVR wands or Oculus Touch, but in a flight sim there's one very big problem. You're not always holding the motion controllers. In a flight sim your hands will be on the HOTAS. To use any kind of motion control system to physically touch switches in the cockpit, you'll need to let go of either the stick or throttle, pick up one of the wands, use it to click a switch, set it down, then put your hands back on the HOTAS. That's neither a smooth or effective thing to do.
You could just control the throttle and stick with the VR controllers but floaty hands will never be as good for controlling something as actually having your hands on a stick.
Good comparison between fresnel lenses and the DK2 lenses. They're the Wearality frensel lenses, but the CV1 uses similar tech. [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bYZoeK6dVk[/hd] 4:26 shows how the fresnel keeps the image clear all around while the DK2 lenses only have it sharp in the center.

That was not a good video to show the differences. He needs to put it further away or get a camera with a lens that can go near.
Ok that vid made me naucious..... some people just don't know how to use a camera properly lol
every time he says "freznel" it hurts a wee bit just an FYI for anyone else, it's pronounced "fre-nel" or "fray-nel". But 100% without the S sound in it. Fresnel lenses are also 200 years old, nothing new, surprised they aren't more commonplace in VR. Aren't vive lenses fresnels?
Both Vive and Oculus CV1 lenses are fresnel's IIRC
Btw for any Rift owners upgrading to Windows 10, you might wanna wait a bit until Oculus releases compatible drivers. They said they're working on it.
Fresnel's really the only decent lens solution for VR.
Oculus Story Studio released a premier trailer for their short film Henry: This will have to show the potential for VR storytelling properly, as opposed to 3D video which is quite shitty at best.

All of them.
Cant wait for the fakefactory mod for henry
This is why we can't have nice things. [editline]29th July 2015[/editline] Perfect message for a new page.
Then why put an S in it?
Because the French.
Because the French.
I think you mean the Fresnch.
So about that Nokia thing. It's a VR camera.
Then why put an S in it?
The lens was engineered by the exquisite Frenchman, Augustin-Jean Fresnel. Who is French.
I was watching this without the sound off, and it's absolutely hilarious how expressive the hands are, the "Do not lean on railing" part especially :v:
VR is pretty exciting There's a lot of games popping up in the "Coming Now' tab made for the Vive Zombie Shooter: http://store.steampowered.com/app/342180 http://store.steampowered.com/app/364500 F16 Sim: http://store.steampowered.com/app/357920 Roman MMO: http://store.steampowered.com/app/381620 Tower Defense: http://store.steampowered.com/app/371360 Classroom Sim: http://store.steampowered.com/app/293800 Tabletop Game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/342190 And that's only a few of the coming now games on Steam, there's also plenty coming out sooner and with Occulus support
Its amazing some of the stuff on the Google cardboard as well. There is a game called space exploration where you look around your cockpit to activate buttons that fly your ship around a scale realistic model of a solar system.
