I wish wireless was a thing for the vive HMD - I worry a lot about getting tangled walking around or spinning the cable into a knot.
valve already tried it by using multiple bandwidths at one time. Price aside, you could use only one device per person and I think you couldn't use other wireless devices in the room as well. Was waiting for a response officially by valve then someone I just know, but it hasn't happened yet.

I looked around for wireless transmitters and it seemed like everything was 1080p@60Hz (or less) and even those were in the hundreds of USD. 400 million pixels per second * 24 bits per pixel is like a 10 gigabit line - granted without compression.
This is pretty kewl and inspiring:
I thought it was borderline cringe cheesy and goofy IMO lol A VR equivalent of AMV's except with hans zimmer instead of linkin park :v:

Crap, I don't know what day I'm there since it's a college trip and I'm forgetful, but god damn I hope it's the Thursday.
It's very freaky that THIS looks more real and alive than anything I've ever seen in any video game
Motion capture has existed in video games for like a decade, which is pretty much the same thing.
Motion capture has existed in video games for like a decade, which is pretty much the same thing.
I feel like its the little mistakes and awkwardness that make it seem more real.
I think I'm missing what the point of this is
It's to look at a pretty sea in VR. But, I think it would be better as a virtual desktop. You, at a desk on a floating raft in the middle of the ocean, doing the things you normally do on your computer. A bit like the FBI dude's sunglasses in Heavy Rain.
I think I'm missing what the point of this is
Raymarching is a heavy duty calculation for volumetrics, much like ray casting. The point is a tech demo for a hella water shader
Raymarching is a heavy duty calculation for volumetrics, much like ray casting. The point is a tech demo for a hella water shader
Right, thought I was missing something else since it's labeled with Vive stuff. I guess it's just to show how performance friendly it is.

I have an optimistic feeling that Samsung and Oculus are going to surprise us with a stand-alone mobile Gear VR headset with Carmack's inside-out tracking at Connect 2 Especially with Carmack's tweet recommending us to wait till the event before buying any smartphone for the consumer Gear

http://venturebeat.com/2015/08/19/castar-raises-15m-from-android-creator-andy-rubin-to-build-augmented-reality-gaming-glasses/ 15mill investment from android creator Andy Rubin.
The new round of funding will be used to drive forward business and continue product development efforts as the company looks to drive adoption among tabletop and interactive game developers. Henkel-Wallace said you can imagine a tabletop battle where part of the battlefield is occluded by “fog of war” because your troops haven’t discovered an area yet. CastAR is also focusing its attention on attracting engineering, business, and design talent as it works towards a 2016 commercial launch. “Among all the confusion about what separates AR from VR, what’s lost is fun,” said Henkel-Wallace. “People want a simple, accessible, fun solution that they can just pick up and play with their friends, without dealing with a bulky, uncomfortable headset, much less being tethered to a big computer. Our goal is to see CastAR on store shelves across North America, aligned with some recognizable brands in tabletop and interactive gaming. Playground’s support will help us get there.”

“I was really intrigued by David, Jeri, and Rick’s approach to tackling the problem of how to drive mainstream adoption of AR,” said Rubin, the former Google executive and now managing director at Playground Global, in a statement. “They’re the only company I found to be simplifying the utility and application of augmented and virtual reality technology into a fun, accessible, and portable system that will wow kids and adults alike.”
They've had some roadblocks that took them a lot longer then expected while keeping everything on a shoestring budget, the cable for one was a big hurtle.

Doesn't het feel nauseous?
Oh, I played this on the DK2 with KB+M and met the guy at EGX Rezzed. He seemed really passionate about it and it was pretty decent, but relied heavily on jumpscares more than anything. And yeah, the movement was annoying and nauseating throughout the experience, but it was cool nonetheless.
People are talking about how much better the Vive is than the Rift, and I've started to wonder if they're really that comparable. Didn't Oculus start out wanting to offer an affordable VR solution for everybody? Isn't Vive supposed to deliver a premium experience at a premium price tag? Should we really be treating them as interchangeable if they're not targeting the same market segments?
dungeon crawler in VR Not sure about that movement. Doesn't het feel nauseous?
I don't suffer from any motion sickness symptoms, but accelerating the camera while I'm standing nearly makes me fall over.
I don't suffer from any motion sickness symptoms, but accelerating the camera while I'm standing nearly makes me fall over.
From what I've heard, it's better to accelerate instantly than to ease in and out.
